Strahan's a peeping Mike: wife

BY AUSTIN FENNER and DAVE GOLDINER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

The Strahan vs. Strahan divorce case took another bizarre turn yesterday as the Giants sack king's estranged wife charged he once used a hidden camera to peep on her sister, according to court papers.
Jean Strahan claimed that Michael Strahan used the camera, hidden in a clock radio, to capture her sister "in various stages of undress," when the Strahans were dating in 1997.

"[He used] a hidden camera in a clock radio that he gave her and virtually insisted that she keep in the bedroom where she slept," Jean Strahan, 41, said in a sworn affidavit.

The Peeping Mike accusation emerged as the soon-to-be-former couple continued to feud over their bad-blood breakup.

She is demanding he cough up about $14 million, but he insists she should only get about $7 million.

Jean Strahan dropped a bombshell by claiming Strahan pursued an "alternative lifestyle" with married TV doctor Ian Smith after the couple broke up.

But she later claimed she didn't mean to hint they were gay - just serial cheaters.

Buried amid hundreds of pages of mundane claims and counterclaims in their divorce case is the explosive allegation that Michael once tried to spy on Jean Strahan's sister when she came to visit.

Jean Strahan was trying to counter Michael Strahan's claim in an earlier affidavit that she had no reason to fear him because the police had never been called to break up a domestic dispute between them.

Not so, said the football star's estranged wife.

"They were in our home at least twice as a result of violent and lewd actions of [Michael Strahan]" before their marriage in 1999.

Jean Strahan had already publicly claimed that her future husband beat her before they wed, but never discussed the video-voyeur claim, which supposedly took place when they lived in East Stroudsburg, Pa.

Michael Strahan's lawyer, Robert Penza, did not return calls for comment on the latest twist in the bitter divorce case.

The couple has spent the past year trading legal salvos through their lawyers over everything from the air conditioning in their Montclair, N.J., mansion to Michael Strahan's habit of honking the horn when he drives.

She once tailed his car when he drove their twin girls to an ice show at the Meadowlands.

He groused that she was inviting too many of her girlfriends over for weekly parties, where they received facial treatments.

He complained that she risked damaging his large collection of fancy clothes by switching off the air conditioning when she went out of town during a steamy week last summer.

She demanded that he take his stuff out of the house because it was clogging up her closets. The divorce case is back in court Monday.

QuoteRavens lock up safety Reed with six-year extension
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Four-year veteran safety Ed Reed, the league's defensive player of the year in 2004, has reached agreement with the Baltimore Ravens on a six-year contract extension worth $40 million that will carry through the 2012 season, team officials confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

The team's first-round choice in the 2002 draft, Reed was entering the final year of his original contract with the team, at a base salary of $1.983 million, and would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency without the extension. Reed, 27, has been seeking to upgrade his contract for more than a year.

Had the Ravens not been able to reach an extension with Reed by next spring, it is likely Baltimore would have designated the former University of Miami star a franchise player to limit his mobility. It is not known yet when the contract will be officially executed with the NFL, but Reed is expected to sign it this week, and Ravens officials said there is no chance the deal will not be completed.

The deal makes Reed one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL. Reed's agent, Greg Genske, said his client will receive a $15 million signing bonus in the largest deal ever given to a safety.

"It's one less thing for him to worry about," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "He knows he is going to be here for the long-term now, and it part of the plans in the big picture, and he can devote his energies now to football matters and to being the playmaker he has always been for us."

If possible, Reed's importance to the Baltimore defense will be heightened this year, since he will be breaking in a new safety partner. Starting free safety Will Demps departed to the New York Giants as an unrestricted free agent and there are a number of candidates, all of them relatively inexperienced, vying for the job.

The 24th player selected overall in the 2004 draft, Reed became a starter as a rookie and has been a fixture in the Baltimore defense ever since. In four seasons, he has appeared in 58 games and started in all but one of those contests. Reed missed six games in 2005 with an ankle injury and recorded career lows in games played (10), tackles (37), interceptions (one) and passes defensed (12).

In his first three seasons, Reed averaged 89 tackles, seven interceptions and 16.3 passes defensed. Reed posted five or more interceptions in each of his first three seasons and led the NFL with nine interceptions in 2004. The Ravens expect him to return to health, and to his previous form, for 2006. Reed was selected to the Pro Bowl for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

Although he is listed as a strong safety, and is effective playing close to the line of scrimmage, Reed also possesses great range and a big-play mindset. In his four seasons, he has 31 "big plays," the combination of takeaways and sacks.

Say goodbye to Dawkins & Lewis.

this has absolutely no bearing on dawkins because his age would never allow him approach anywhere near that kind of money...plus hes half the player ed reed is at this stage in their careers

as for lewis who knows if hes worth bringing back at all... this would be akin to chad johnson signing a  monster deal and then saying goodbye jabar gaffney

It does have a bearing on Dawkins because he's one of the best free safeties in the NFC and he's in a contract year.

Is he worth what Ed Reed got at his age?  No, of course not.  But he's certainly worth more than the Eagles would plan on paying him, especially after seeing the idiotic money Reed just got.

As for Lewis, I didn't think he was going to be here after this year anyway because he was previously looking for Roy Williams money.  Now that Reed has set the bar even higher, no way he sticks around and takes the Eagles chump change.
