plus there's that whole 1999 Stanley Cup controversy thing between Dallas and Buffalo...  :)

As I mentioned in the Rest of the NBA thread (I believe) when the hating Dallas thing came up last time.

Brett Hull better hope I never see his ass in the street.  :evil

Now I don't claim to feel the "Philly pain of no championships" to the extent that most of you guys do.  Never have... never will.

of course...and you couldnt...thats cause you root for teams whereas we root for a city....if the mets moved to wyoming tomorrow youd still be a fan even if they were the pride of laramie..wheras if the eagles moved to la id never give them the time of day and i wouldnt even spare some spit on them

it is the passion that comes with rooting for your home that gives fans a much bigger interest in their teams than a met/eagle fan could never come close to having inside them...no offense but when/if the city wins a championship im hugging a fellow philadelphian a little harder than im hugging a mets or yankees fan

i would never ever say you werent a true fan of any team you like because everyone has different reasons for who they root for...but know this...the investment a philly fan has goes a lot deeper than that of an eagle fan...

If the Flyers, Sixers, or Phillies moved, I'd be completely done with them, hoping Philly eventually gets another team to move or an expansion team.  I honestly don't know what I'd do if the Eagles left.  I'd probably TRY to root against them, but I don't know if I'd be able to.

Good thing none of the teams are going anywhere for at least another 7-10 years.

you'd love him if he bought the phillies

i think cuban is a great owner.  granted, he may get on people's nerves and talk too much, but you can tell he's a real fan.  he's not in it to make money, he wants to win.  he's just a normal schmo like any of us who happened to have way too much money than a normal person should have.  so he bought the team.  which is exactly what i would do.

Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

except Snyder does care more about making money, as evidenced by his parking and ticket prices

He's Dan Snyder.

Cuban made it to the Finals as an owner whereas Dan Snyder, for all his idiotic spending, hasn't even sniffed an NFCCG yet.

I'd take a guy like Cuban as an owner any day over the likes of Bill Giles and the Phantom Five.

DH

In other news, the Mets are good.

PhillyPhreak54

I am rooting for the Mavs because I like Cuban. And if Cuban bought the Phillies, I'd be happy as hell.

Arbitrary difference. They have approached their teams in the exact same way. Spend spend spend on stars. Both have gotten better at their decisions over time (Dallas actually putting a TEAM on the floor, Skins actually hiring a fantastic Head Coach, Gregg Williams). Both have a ludicrous amount of sway over their respective leagues. They are mirror images of each other as owners. One just happens to be a rich, loud and likeable dude that we can all relate to while the other is a rich dork who roots for the taterskins.

Spend, spend, spend.  Exactly what the Phillies haven't done.

If they had an owner with unlimited funds, (like Cuban) they could have done that quite easily.

I'm sick of the Phillies having bargain basement teams, rjs, even with an almost $90M payroll.

Just for once I'd like money not to be a concern when it comes to them.  They play in the fifth largest market in the country yet they're 12th in payroll.

That is absolutely absurd to me.

rjs246

Hey, I'm not saying that he wouldn't be great for the Phils. He probably would be, but to try and differentiate between he and Snyder is something that only slightly blinded die-hard Eagles fans would do.

they are both dorks of the highest degree...the difference is that snyder is comfortable being one while cuban is trying his hardest to be 'down'

ps- there isnt anything about cuban thats even close to likeable
