the point is while it may or may not be a marginal upgrade at the position...it doesnt make the team better in terms of wins and losses...you dont now see aaron rowand in centerfield and say now thats a playoff team...in fact thome/michaels gives them more wins this year than rowand/howard

but i don't think it's about this year.  cuz said this on Sports Final and I agree, Gillick is looking towards '07.  he loses the contracts of Lieberthal, Bell and Wolf.

that doesn't mean they can't do anything this year, but Rowand/Howard/Madson/Floyd(meh) are all about the future

Rollins - not patient enough to be a reliable leadoff hitter in general, but thankfully he's hitting the ball well

what constitutes reliable for ya...3-4 every game? 4th in the league in hits so far.... and looks 5x's more comfortabe with a more level swing and his stance deeper in the box. Like what hes doing and will be very reliable this year IMO

The problem is that the hot bat will come and go, but will he get on base (ie: walk) enough to offset the inevitable slumps?  No, he will not.

ice grillin you

but i don't think it's about this year

totally agree...which is why you make the thome trade even tho it hurts the team this year...pg was saying the team is better this year than last with rowand being one of the reasons

gillick has a plan and its for more than one year...which is another reason you can live with throwing this season out the window...because with gillick theres finally hope for the future
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

PoopyfaceMcGee

Naturally, we are assuming Gillick will live long enough to make these moves, though.

for the first time, i agree with an entire post of yours.

actually, this team needs cole hamels to work out. i saw him at reading last season with my dad.

seeing hamels pitch in person, until you do, you have no idea how good this kid is. hamels, if he stays healthy and stays sane, he will be amazing. my dad says he looks better than carlton did at the same spot in his career.

some stats for you all, to help with the pain...

Opposing pitchers are hitting .353 (6 for 17) with five RBIs out of the ninth spot in the lineup against the Phils.

Opponents No. 7 through No. 9 hitters are hitting .370 (30-for-81) with 16 RBI against the Phillies. 1-6 are @ .250.

So you're saying that the Phils are 2/3 of the way there!  :D

In the 2nd inning, Lieberthal gets the clutch 2-out 2-run double with runners on the corners.  Nice!

Oh, and Burrell started and ended the inning with outs.  Way to go, "Pat the bat".

PhillyPhreak54

Pat hits a solo HR to extend the lead to 7-4 after Rowands 2R shot made it 6-4.

And now Geoff Geary and the fabulous Rheal Cormier are trying to let the Braves back in it. Cormier is still warming up and hasn't given up anything......yet.

phillymic2000

If this keeps up we will be out of the Basement! Woohoo!!!!!!11

PhillyPhreak54

Like I said...Rheal goddamn zesty would give something up.

He gives up a 2R double.

AND ONCE AGAIN THE DAMAGE IS DONE WITH TWO MOTHERFARGING OUTS!!!!

JESUS H. CHRIST! >:(

PhillyPhreak54

And Flash Gordon comes in to close it out in the bottom of the 9th.

Phillies win 7-5.

2-6, baby!!!

And it takes 8 games for the Phils to have a SP get a victory as Lidle wins his 1st.
