"Walk The Line" is one of the best movies I've seen in years!

Joaquin Phoenix was mesmerizing as Johnny Cash. Even more incredible was Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash, the love of his life. What made the movie so amazing was their chemistry which I never thought in a million years I could buy. But they actually pulled it off.

I'm more of a casual country fan, actually, but the music in the movie was awesome. They blended a lot of rock music from the '50s into the storyline since Cash actually toured in the 1950's with the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Roy Orbison, (which I never knew) and of course, also included many of Johnny Cash's biggest hits which were always badass to begin with and never hokey.

The movie also explored Cash's decade-long battle with drug addiction and his eventual rehabilitation. I knew of Cash's bad-boy reputation but I never knew that he was a full-blown drug addict.

The supporting actors were fantastic as well. I was stunned to see Robert Patrick in the role of Cash's father. Robert Patrick is better known for his role as the terminator in "Terminator 2" and as Mulder's replacement in "The X-Files." I didn't even recognize him until about 3/4's of the way through the movie.

I have to admit that the best part of the movie for me was watching the luminescent Reese Witherspoon devour the screen as June Carter. Admittedly, her past movie roles have ranged from fluffy to outright laughable, but she definitely turned the corner in this role. She's beyond beautiful in this movie and displays a range that I never suspected she had. It's not surprising that she won an Oscar for her performance here.

I highly, highly recommend this movie. I know the subject matter might not be to everyone's taste but I assure you, this movie was excellent from start to finish.

My rating: Five stars out of five. A true American classic just like Johnny Cash.

"Ring of Fire" is one of the best movies I've seen in years!

You could at least get the title right if you liked it so much.

I agree, though.  "Walk the Line" was an excellent movie.

Sorry about that.  I posted before editing first.

My bad.   :P

Aside from the Phils game that is the funniest thing I've seen all day.

I just bought 'Juice' at target for $5. Can't go wrong there. That's gonna bring back memories. :yay

Juice was on a few months ago, since the last time I watched it I was in my teens - not to mention the movie was pre Pulp Fiction - I didn't realize Samuel L. Jackson was the dude in the pool hall.

:-D Were you two watching the same film?

For what it's worth, I thoroughly enjoyed Narnia.  The full-scale sermon about the meaning of the movie from my Baptist minister father-in-law I could have done without.  :D

PhillyGirl

Yeah, I didn't care to hear about any religious reference in it. I took it for what it was to me growing up and now...a fun kids adventure. Period.

i agree, i think it all just depends on what your music tastes are.  i thought it was an ok movie, but not being a big fan of johnny cash probably made it that way.  i'm sure if i loved the music it would have ranked a lot higher for me.  i did think it was excellent acting though, even though i think joaquin deserved an oscar more than reese.

Many movie experts agreed with rome's assessment. Ray was equally a  great movie, and Jamie Foxx was stellar as Ray (I honestly forgot Foxx was playing Ray until the credits rolled). Reason I liked 'Walk the Line' more is because I'm a  bigger fan of Cash's music than I am of Charles.

Wingspan

i watching "Ring of Copote: Revenge of the typewriter" last week.

i thought it was pretty good, as others have said.
