I don't know, 59 catches 738 yards 2 TDs in only 13 games and he's only 25? Guess that wouldn't help McNabb much. Gald we signed Gaffney instead.

Gaffney might surprise you- 55 catches on a $htein squad, and he's by far faster than Givens...with height. Only 13 games?? How many do you need...there's only 16 games in a season. Your argument is null and void--the Eagles made the right move

If you say so. I like the Gaffney signing, but don't you find it a bit peculiar that he was out there for so long and only signed a 1 year deal?

this argument is silly.

the eagles had a horrible season and finished last in their division...they came into this offseason with quite a few needs and a lot of cap room to fill those needs.  instead of going balls out to sign super bowl caliber players, they only signed 1 impact player (howard) & a bunch of cheap, depth-type role players.
the needed a big offseason to vault back up to the top of the division & become a super bowl contending team again...instead, they sat back & watched the impact players sign elsewhere.

the end.

I should've used a better example. Right now you can say Givens is better than Gaffney because he's done more. He played in Superbowls, and has better stats, etc. Keep in mind Givens played with the best QB in the game today. Gaffney was in a bad situation in Houston. I wouldn't be surprised if Gaffney turns out to be the better receiver.

My point is, not signing a WR in free agency this year is not the end of the world. We got a nice receiver for a lot cheaper, and still have the opportunity to go out and get one later or even draft one. IMO receiver is the one position that we shouldn't be mad about just yet. The free agent crop was very weak.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.

I'm worried more about the beef than anything else.  DT's and OL.  We need help.

A guy just asked Dave why they cut Mike McMahon, saying that they should have kept him for trick plays.

Ha!

SD,

Gaffney wanted the 1 year deal.

To prove his worth? Sorry, not buying it. He was on a crappy team and would have jumped at the oppurtunity to sign a lucrative deal. No one was offering it so he chose to play on a 1 year deal in a pass happy offense where is cousin was also playing.

Gaffney wearing #84!  Yes, I get to alter my F. Mitchell jersey!

What free agency has come down to right now is whether or not they have a plan and know what they are doing or if they are cheap and don't have a clue.

By reading the posters on here, it seems there are quite a few on both sides. I'll go with the former. I can't possibly believe this team is stupid or cheap enough to have Dhani as our starting SAM. This is the same team who signed Kearse and TO to huge deals a couple years ago. All indications are they are not afraid to throw the big money to players they really like.

Gaffney's claiming he wasn't part of the decision to only sign a 1-year deal.  He said he hopes to stay here for a lot longer and sign a long-term deal at the end of the season.
