You think they think Peterson = Dhani?

Nuts.

Not the same as Dhani, obviously they think he's better than Dhani, but for the money Peterson would cost, they probably think he is going to be a big liability in pass coverage against tight ends after his injuries. So while he is better than Dhani, they want something better and someone fresh, and don't want to spend a bundle on a question mark.

A friend of mine is a big Niners fan, and I don't talk to him a lot since he went off to college, but I talked to him this weekend. He was telling me that unless the Eagles could get Peterson on the cheap, he is not worth the sign. He says he thinks his best years are behind him and he doesn't think the guy is going to play at a high level anymore, and he didn't think he played at a high level the past couple years.

He also thinks Peterson is a tad soft. I value his opinion a lot, so I'm definitely taking into consideration that maybe the Eagles think the same thing. If you look at the teams that are interested in Peterson, it is limited to very few teams. We all assume it's because he priced himself too high, but maybe it's because they don't think the guy can play at a high level anymore.

I wish I could study game tape to come to the conclusion myself, but I've only watched the Niners play a few times last season and when you watch football teams play, how often do you focus on a SAM LB during the whole game?

No offense, but I think your friend might've hit the bong one too many times in college.

Peterson is a stud.

Eaglez

I'd definitely take Peterson in a heartbeat. I'd glad the Eagles are still talking about picking him up.

Seahawks | Team reaches agreement with Peterson
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 20:56:05 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Seattle Seahawks have reached an agreement with free agent LB Julian Peterson to a seven-year contract worth $54 million. The deal includes $18.5 million in guarantees, including $10 million for the 2006 season.

Peterson is gone.

Ridiculous contract. Not worth that or even close to it. Not by a longshot.

Are you kidding me? Damn, where is Seattle coming up with all this dough at? There's still Hutchinsons deal that they may have to pay and they're rumored to be one of the teams that might trade for Abraham. The Peterson contract is ridiculous, but they're still clearly the team to beat in the NFC.

It shows me they aren't going to match that Hutchinson offer, which I think is stupid. I'd much rather match Hutchinson than spend that cash on Peterson who hasn't been at his all-pro level the last couple years.

I think if the Eagles do the necessary moves they can get back to the Superbowl. Seattle doesn't impress me.

Well they impress the hell out of me, remember the ass kicking we got last season? Well they've kept their entire team intact and have improved immensly, we haven't. Only hope is they buy into the whole SuperBowl hangover thing.

From the NFL.com article:

QuoteEven with Peterson's mega-contract, the Seahawks still have the wherewithal to match the $49 million offer sheet Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutcinson signed with the Vikings. The Seahawks had to announce their decision by tonight at midnight ET.

And they are not done there. Still in place is a contingent deal for defensive end John Abraham, whom the Seahawks have the exclusive negotiating rights for from the New York Jets in exchange for Seattle's first-round pick.

Already this offseason, the Seahawks have re-signed NFL MVP running back Shaun Alexander and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard.

But now, the Seahawks are bolstering their defensive line, landing Peterson tonight and former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Russell Davis over the weekend.

Seahawks | Team does not match offer to Hutchinson
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 21:13:13 -0800

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Seattle Seahawks have not matched the offer the Minnesota Vikings made to Seahawks transition free agent OG Steve Hutchinson. Hutchinson now becomes a member of the Vikings. The Seahawks will save $6.391 in salary cap by letting Hutchinson leave.

Looks like I was right.

I thought their D was damn good last season, if they get Abraham their D might move into the elite. Surprised they let Hutchinson go.

The BIGSTUD

Their defense was very good, but I can't see it repeating. Rocky Bernard is going to have to string together 2 seasons like last season in a row before I can call him a stud yet.

If the Eagles get a stud SAM and a stud DT, our defense is better than Seattle.

That's a lot of 'ifs', we had the oppurtunity and cap space to add both but didn't. Seattle did, which is why they're a much better team than us right now.

The BIGSTUD

True, but in the past the Eagles have stayed away from the bidding game, and have made out pretty well. A lot of players that we wanted as fans, are players who got big deals from other teams and haven't lived up to the hype.

Sure, the Eagles aren't right 100% of the time, but after being furious for the first week of free agency, I have taken a complete 180 in terms of my attitude for now. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until the draft. If they are done in free agency and don't come out of that draft with a stud DT, LB, WR and OG though, then I will shred them every minute of every day on here.

But for now they get the benefit of the doubt. Right now I'm willing to believe that rather than being cheap they have an actual plan in place. I know it's hard to believe that after last season, but giving up my trust on the Eagles means giving up on the season, and giving up on the season means giving up on something I look so forward to every year, and I'm not ready to give up on that yet.

With that signing you can say they are not getting Lavar Arrington either. String up the Guitar for another season. :boo

Whoa man, don't go on that boat just yet. We still have the draft and june cuts and even a trade possibility.

If we go into july and august with Dhani starting at SAM, then I will bury this team. Don't go there just yet. Have a little faith that they realize Dhani isn't a starting SAM. They were watching the same season we were, don't forget that.

If they think Adams  needed to be replaced, I'm sure they think the same about Dhani. Both were awful last season.
