Again, the thing that's telling to me is that they didn't give Howard all of his up-front money as a roster bonus.  If they seriously didn't plan on using their 2006 cap room, then why prorate that money, when you can have it all hit in 2006?  After all, it's the same $$$ to Howard and the same $$$ from Lurie either way.

I just don't get it.  They could have taken a $10.5m cap hit for Howard, but they took less than $4m.  WTF?

John Runyan would be my guess.  And they had to make sure they had enough cash around to re-up Reno.  The team would have been doomed to failure with out him.
Anyone but Reid.

ice grillin you

And why might that be?

he was the best FA TE available and will be a perfect compliment to lj by taking some of the burden off him by giving him less snaps...hes a big boy and  will be a nice target for donovan...i expect him to be real successful inside the ten....wouldnt be surprised to see him get 6-7 td's this year

That's funny and all, but my question is a serious one.  The Eagles are staring at no less than $25 million in 2006 cap space after Owens is cut today.  Even if they sign Runyan and escalate his entire bonus to 2006, they're still at no less than $17 million.  Not using it on the few players you do sign makes no sense unless you really plan on signing more players.

I don't "hate" the signing, but don't you think we could have been better served with a guy like Dan Campbell who's a better blocker or even go into the draft where it's really deep at TE?

they dont run so a blocking TE is worthless...they dont have any wr's so another pass catching option is not a bad thing...they were real succesful with lj and chad a couple years ago...and thats what they have again

Admit that you just like his name more.

PhillyPhreak54

Putzier...not really a fan of him. He was a RFA and the Jets signed him to a offer sheet and the Broncs matched. Then they cut him.

I kind of wanted Chris Baker...but Schobel is cool.

His nickname is gay though...

The Schoeboat.

Gay, gay, gay.

The press conference is about to start.  Dave just referred to Schobel as the "newest Eagle", so it's a done deal.
