The BIGSTUD

They won't even be 10 under. They were almost 10 over before the thing got signed.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

The skins will be under the cap  somewhere in the range of 15 million to 20 million.

I've read this and have heard this a few times on local media outlets.  This site here was pretty damn accurate when it guessed the cap restructures before the CBA.  here is one with the new CBA
http://taterskins.scout.com/2/507127.html

most of the restructures are with players that agreed to do it before the CBA was signed.  Some, like CLinton Portis, gained a lot with the restructures and they will not do it again.  These basic restructures are the way the taterskins operate.  They always have done this.  They know how to make cap space and push it over to later years.  The threat of Cap hell therefore is always talked about.

It feels as if the skins got to push a reset button and get rid of their cap problems for now but it is to be seen if they will be as aggressive enough to make more now and put themselves back into the "hell" they were in.   I think the skins will pull 12 million under the cap but they can get even more room if they choose

QuoteThe taterskins also have 8 key players who have large roster bonuses due in 2006 (totalling $13.650m) that could be guaranteed and spread out over the remaining life of the contract or to 2010 if the tenure is longer. This move would result in a further $10.4m in savings for 2006, bringing the taterskins into cap compliance with $7m in cap space already created.

All this and the team has yet to cut or trade a player in the process.

So what other moves could assist in creating additional cap space and potential free agent dollars? Those likely to happen are the following:

Patrick Ramsey could be traded (saving $1.7m)
Brandon Noble ($1.7m), Cory Raymer ($1.0m), Matt Bowen ($2.0m), Tom Tupa ([body].6m) and Walt Harris ($2.0m) will probably be released within the next 48 hours (saving $7.3m)
Jon Jansen and Randy Thomas could undertake a basic 2006 base salary to bonus conversion restructure in thier contracts that could save a further $5.1m.
If all these moves were made (allowing for replacement of released players under the Rule of 51), another $12.2m would be saved, pushing the projected cap number down to $19.2m below the NFL limit

Sounds like a hell of a lot of wishful thinking to me. Don't forget, when you release a player it leaves a void. They're also pushing roster bonuses back further which is what got them in trouble in the first place.

That is true.  The skins are usually go over the cap during FA and have to do something before the season starts too.  But they always find a way to get under.  Last year they were able to absorb a 9 million dollar hit from the coles/moss trade(WHICH BY THE WAY HAPPENED EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO TODAY ;D).  I really suck at this cap stuff.  I do however think getting to about 90 or so million will be relatively easy from what I have read.

The skins are free from their cap hell for now.  They can easily choose to push back salaries and add incentives until they are in cap hell again.  Being 10 million under the cap is reasonable right now for the skins.  If they get much more than that they are pushing back salaries which is not really a good thing and will lead the skins back into 'cap hell' in two years.

I would really like to get out of these cap problems so I would choose to stay low one year and do something with 7 or 8 million but it seems daniel knows what he is doing with the cap. It would take some serious skill to renegotiate those contracts by tommorrow. They will probably free up less than 10 million instantly so they can get under the cap.  After negotiating for months they will push back the salaries of 6 players and get some room to afford the FAs they signed even when they didn't have the money to sign them.  This is how 'they do'

Quotetaterskins Eyeing 49ers' Lloyd

By Jason La Canfora
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, March 10, 2006; Page E03

The Washington taterskins are exploring available options for acquiring San Francisco wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, but completing such a deal could prove difficult because Lloyd is a restricted free agent.

Lloyd, 24, has been unable to agree to a long-term deal with the 49ers and is free to negotiate with any team, but he received a one-year qualifying offer from San Francisco that would require a first-round draft pick as compensation should he sign elsewhere. The taterskins do not have a first-round selection in next month's draft, but could work out a package of other assets for the player and sign him to a multiyear contract. No trades cane be completed until 12:01 a.m. Saturday, when teams can also begin contact unrestricted free agents from other clubs

QuoteJETS CLOSING IN ON RAMSEY DEAL
New York Post
By MARK CANNIZZARO

March 10, 2006 -- The Jets, hell-bent on repairing their crippled quarterback situation, are acting quickly on Patrick Ramsey - so quickly that the former No. 1 draft pick out of Tulane could join Chad Pennington and Co. within days.

Two sources familiar with the goings on between the Jets and taterskins, told The Post last night that the Jets and Jimmy Sexton, the agent for the Washington backup quarterback, have been actively working on the parameters for a trade that would bring Ramsey to New York.

Word is the Jets would give the taterskins a fifth-round draft pick in next month's NFL draft as well as a possible conditional pick in the 2007 draft, depending on how much and how well Ramsey plays.

That pick, according to one of the sources, could be as high as a third-round pick should Ramsey start a certain number of games and perform to a certain level.

QuoteI searched for any threads regarding lecharles bently to the skins, but I desire to make a prediction that all can see. I truly believe The Skins are aiming for LeCharles Bentley in Free Agency.

With the articles, and interviews in which our FO referred to OL as a priority it is sure that with all the cap room we have (possibly 19 mill.) and considering that we are the taterskins with Danny Boy at our side what I believe becomes a reality. Plus, a recent article in the "Around the NFL" says LeCharles Bentley may not sign with Eagles. Something tells me Danny Snyder and Gibbs may be using their ability to persuade and it's working He knows we're Super Bowl Contenders and I truly think we are in the spotlight right now with all that's going on. If I was a player I certainly would think "Man it would be nice to go get paid and play in friggin D.C.". Juts think about it we really are on our way back up and I think many many people see it. Lastly, think about something this way. Maybe we didn't resign Dockery to start, and maybe we aren't looking for OL help in terms of backups. What if we are shopping for a starter and a star because our depth problem is on it's way with Dockery. With the evidence I have peresented at hand I Predict that within so many hours we will behearing talks of exactly this.

LeCharles Bentley signs 6 year deal with Skins

Wow... you really start to question why people like that nutjob are allowed to roam the earth.  :o

Anyway... they can have their Bentley fantasies now, but we all know Bentley will proceed to being "overrated" and "sucking" the second he puts pen to paper for the Eagles.

They just signed Casey Rabach last year (right?), and they have nowhere NEAR $19 million in cap room.  While I wouldn't be totally shocked if they made a semi-run at Bentley, they have other greater needs and can't really offer Bentley the Center gig, which is where he really wants to play.

Brandon Lloyd sounds more along the lines of the type of free agent they can and will go for.

ff one day you will....at least i think you will...realize the cap doesnt apply to the skins...i agree with you that bently is not a need for the skins and i cant imagine them going after him...but if they wanted to get him they easily could

No doubt, but they want other high-priced guys a lot more than they want Bentley, IMO... so I don't think they'll use any cap space on the top FA on the OL when they consider DL and WR bigger needs.

I have no doubt they could push off and clear enough space to sign both Randle El and Abraham if they wanted to.

Bigskinbauer

i was wishing that someone like bentley would have been available last year.  Rabach is solid.  Too solid to be a backup but who knows.  The skins desperately need a WR and Brandon Lloyd is a really great WR as a number 2.  like FF said the skins have to worry about the DEs and WRs.  now i guess they need an OLB and some OL depth.

Hey, I agree with Bigskinbauer for the first time:  The Skins will likely not go after LeCharles Bentley, and it's not because they absolutely can't, but more because they have other and bigger needs.

Basically, if you disagree (IGY), by process of elimination you are wrong.
