It's a good thing McCoy is almost ready.  Having a gimp like Barber as a backup plan could be disasterous.

That is... if they rely on Barber to be the straight up starter and do nothing else at LB.  There's nothing to say that's what the the Eagles are going to do at this point.

true...if they still have plans to go out and improve the position then the barber move is a no brainer and automatically becomes a great one...but all indications point to that not being the case

well, one indication that they see Barber as a starter = not being interested in Arrington, IMO

Barber's deal: 1.5million of $750,000 SB

Spew's comments about what he said on Eagles live:

QuotePhiladelphia Inquirer reported those numbers and I merely repeated them .. Brookover said it was similar to the one in 2002

The more I think about this deal, the more I start to dislike it. Could it be that Barber is just completely done, and just wanted one more payday, however small? I keep reminding myself that he passed his physical, but what does a physical like that entail? Granted, they paid almost nothing for the dude, but they did pay. If he couldn't get back to business on a KC team that may be one of the few teams in the NFL that needs more help at LB than the Birds, why would the Birds take him?

You could say that he had a big contract in KC, but KC could have just pushed him to renegotiate. He said in his PC that he didn't want to learn a new system, etc., and if that is the case, and he knew he wasn't going to get paid much, why not renegotiate in KC? I'm starting to think KC may have known he was completely done and washed up. This all becomes less of a problem if he was brought in to help instruct the younger guys, and be a last resort, but if it is anything more than that......in the words of IGY, they are really screwed.

I get that... but IMO... that doesn't really fly this year.  Up until now, the Eagles D has been able to get away with having zesty LB's.  Under AR, they've always been a top notch unit and among the best in the league in terms of points allowed.  This year, the D got raped Sunday after Sunday, the LB's were CLEARLY a weakness... and the D played a huge part in a sorry ass 6-10 season.  Andy's said that he knows the front 7 needs to be fixed so maybe he got a wake-up call.

Now, I know folks are about to say that I think he's about to go throw money at Arrington, Witherspoon and Peterson... that ain't the case.  AR could very well be looking at Barber to be the starter... and IMO, that'd be a big mistake.  All I'm saying is that in this unique FA period (whatever the  :deion amount is and again, coming off a 6-10 season) see what happens before everyone proclaims Barber the starter.

Don't have to.  That's already pretty well known.  You've said so yourself.

Anyway... I don't care what folks in the media say about "what they've been told".  They've got a picture to paint and they'll say whatever they need to support their story or agenda.  Believe me... I'm part of the media... and sports media to a degree.  Happens all the time.

Barber could be the starter, could be not... but WIP sure as hell don't know one way or the other.  Especially on a signing that wouldn't even have happened if it weren't for the the Chiefs.

If the line sucked a lot less, the 'backers might at least appear more passable.
