WITNESS TAMPERING ALLEGATION IN TAYLOR CASE

The criminal trial of taterskins safety Sean Taylor has been bumped yet again, from March 20 to April 10.  Although past continuances were largely the result of the fact that Taylor preferred to be banging hats in lieu of finding out whether he'll be breaking rocks, this one has arisen from claims of witness tampering.

According to The Washington Times, prosecutor Michael Grieco said that a witness had received threatening phone calls about the case and had been offered money to influence testimony.

Taylor's lawyer, Edward Carhart, identified the witness as Ryan Hill, whose testimony will be utilized by the prosecution.  Carhart also said that Taylor has received threatening phone calls (yeah, but those probably came from Bucs running back Michael Pittman, who caught a face full of spit from Taylor during a playoff game in January).

This is some serious stuff, folks.  The justice system doesn't take kindly to proof that efforts have been made to get witnesses to tell anything other than the truth.  Though it might be a challenge to pin the threats and the attempted bribes back to Taylor, he'll be spending a long time in the joint if Grieco ultimately can show that the allegations are true, and that Taylor orchestrated the efforts to sway testimony against him.

Also, The Washington Post reports that Taylor's defense team has identified coach Joe Gibbs and owner Dan Snyder as potential character witnesses at the trial.

Meanwhile, Taylor is now likely to miss some of the team's offseason workouts, which commence on March 27.

Taylor faces three felony charges for allegedly pointing a gun at a group of people who allegedly had stolen his four-wheeler.  In Florida, such charges carry a mandatory minimum of three years, per count.

As we explained when Taylor was arrested and charged in June 2005, the team would be able to pursue millions in bonus money if he ultimately is convicted and misses any mandatory team activity due to his conviction or unfortunate incarceration.

I love that Gibbs and Snyder may be "character witnesses".

Prosecutor: "Mr. Gibbs, what is your opinion of Mr. Taylor?"

Joe Blow: "Well, he is a nice guy.......when he actually shows up for work."

Hope they lock his ass up for a long time, and maybe show the clip of him spitting in Pittman's face in the court room as evidence of the icehole's tendencies.

Nice.

He already changed his number from 21 from 36.

Will taterskin fans buy his newest jersey? Mitchell & Ness could market the Sean Taylor #381265 orange Florida penal system jumpsuit.

Trotter and McNabb didn't show up for traffic court. They're classless and Taylor is innocent. Go Skins.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Come on, man.

Pointing a gun at people = good

Parking in handcapped spots = bad

PoopyfaceMcGee

Gibbs wouldn't allow him to play on his team if he wasn't a character guy.  Yay team!

The question propsed was will Portis be a hall of famer. One guy said no, and exception was taken to this obvious case of non-homersim

QuoteYes he will, hed be over 6,000 yards if he hadnt have sat out on the rams game in his 4 year career. Best run blocking running back at the moment in this league and is a team leader. I remember the team saying that he gave a speach in the locker room during halftime in the eagles game and we came out and came back to beat the eagles and go to the playoffs.

Though, hes gonna need a Championship Ring to get in. Which he will get

He's had dumbasses playing on his team since he started coaching. Dexter Manley was the biggest crackhead in the league before Lawrence Taylor came along. He was busted and in trouble for coke more times than I can remember before Gibbs finally got rid of him.  John Riggins would knock linebackers out with booze breath when they would tackle him, and we all know the story about him passing out under the table and telling Sandra Day O'Conner to "loosen up Sandy Baby". In D.C., that story is told as a big, fun time joke. If you or I did it, we'd be locked up for public intoxication.

Quotetaterskins | Team facing salary cap penalties
Sun, 5 Mar 2006 09:14:08 -0800

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Washington taterskins might not be able to get under the salary cap of $94.5 million for the 2006 season. Several owners believe the taterskins will not be able to get under $98 million because of all the amortization left on signing bonuses. The club faces a fine and/or forfeiture of draft picks. A group of small-market owners are watching to see how NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue might punish them.

Without even checking over at HomerCentral, I can probably guess some of the responses...

"What the hell does a Cincy writer know about this team? Just another Skin hater in the media!"

They seem to think that anytime an out of town writer, hell any writer for that matter, who writes anything less than a full knob gobbling article is wrong and a hater and Art and Bubb come out to spin like Johnny Weir.

QuoteWhat do you guys think of putting Vernon Davis at safety, making him a two way player. The guys an animal and has the athleticism to do it. For whatever team that drafts him, he could play multiple positions. FB, WR, TE, H-Back, Safety, DE, and maybe linebacker.

:-D

Saw that earlier, and figured it was too stupid to bother posting. They all pay ZERO attention to the fact they have no draft picks anywhere near what is necessary to move up and even make a play at getting a player like VD.

Nor could they pay him.  However, I have no doubt that not only will the CBA get extended and the new cap be around $110 million, but the taterskins will no doubt agree to trade Arrington to the 49ers for their pick to get Davis.

QuoteI'd bet that this means that they think they will have an agreement by 10pm. If not, they will push it back again for a few hours. Overall, I am hopeful that this is good news.

After the news came out that teams have to start cutting and Mort says WAS is in trouble:

Quoteat least we'll be able to prove the mediots wrong

Quotewe arent in that bad of shape, especially not worse than the raiders. we might not be able to make any moves in FA but we wont have to rebuild the team or anything. just a lot of contract restructuring and choice cuts will be needed. dan snyder is no fool, he wont let us get screwed

QuoteNot really. At least not to those who understand the info.

If you are an ignorant Skins fan who believes the reports of the media that the Skins won't be able to field a team without an extension, then you deserve the stress.

We'll be just fine, no matter how it shakes out

Man, these guys are really blinded by the Snyder Spin Machine. :-D
