I want the CBA extension to be delayed just long enough to force the Skins to purge the roster.  Then, I want it done.

Think about it... the cap was only $85 million last year... so not being able to get under $94.5 million is pathetic.  It's obvious Snyder was putting all his eggs in the "CBA will get extended without problem" basket and completely unprepared for the other scenario, which is why he's an idiot, no matter how much money he lets his coaches and players wipe their asses with.

BTW, the Eagles have paid more ACTUAL MONEY in players' salaries the last 5 years than the Skins.  And they didn't have to be stuck up shtein's creek to do it.

Farg the Skins.

PhillyPhreak54

NFL Network reports that Jansen has restructured.

Whats funny is that they have to do more of this monetary musical chairs just to get close to the 94.5. And when a new cba is done (which is likely, IMO now that they set it back 3 days) then the players who took a big hit salarywise will watch as FA players signed by Dannyboy are paid more than these "team players" who helped out.

PhillyPhreak54

QuoteGuys, with all the restructuring going on, the fact is, we might have been able to get under the cap with almost no cuts at all. The Skins are going to be loaded for bear if there is a CBA and pretty ok if there isn't. And, with taterskins One last seen landing in New York to pick up one John Abraham, well.....

Ok, the last part is made up

I hate that pig farger, Art. Hate, hate, hate.

Bigskinbauer

portis re did his contract and it is contingent on the CBA not getting signed.  i don't know the details of the other players but they may have similiar clauses.

QuoteIt goes to show that all the people Gibbs has brought in are great guys who will put their team first ahead of a few dollars.

Jon Jansen
Randy Thomas
Mark Brunell
Clinton Portis
Shawn Springs
Marcus Washington
and unnamed others

these guys are possibly* messing with their wallets to keep this team intact

I think they all deserve a big thanks if no CBA gets signed.

*should a new CBA get signed this entire thing would have been a big false alarm, but it has showed us how close this team is.

look at the Jets ,they asked a bunch of good players to restructure, and where are they now? the street because they wanted their coin over the good of the team

QuoteI love it too. It shows that the era of overpaying players is over. This team is now just that...a team

QuoteIts the Gibbs factor all the way.

QuoteMan. I was just about to say the same thing.

I didn't know about Marcus, but this is just amazing. We were in a jam so our players came to the rescue and bail us out.

It's this moment that I realize what Gibbs' way is all about

This is more than a team. This is a family. You make whatever sacrafices necessary for your family.

I didn't always realize what Coach Gibbs meant about character guys. When he first came back I was 15 years old and I thought who acares about character as long as their good.

I know now. This wouldn't happen on a Spurrier or Turner coached team. Those years were about every body getting theirs.

This is about helping out your teemates. No helping out your brothers so we can all reach our goals together.

You could have given us another SB trophy with Spurrier, but it wouldn't mean as much as it does with these players. Jon, Mark, Randy, Marcus, Clinton and SHawn on behalf of skins fans every where Thank You.

QuoteOnly in the deepest part of my heart did I even dare hope that these guys would step up like they have. I am so proud of them and even prouder to be a lifelong taterskin fan. It's Joe Gibbs all the way. I remember the first JG era very well but I never thought he would be able to find the same type of "character" guys that he had before. Not in NFL as it is today. I think Joe Gibbs had a lot to do with bringing out the character in these guys. Just incredible. Hail Skins!!

Jesus...these people would seriously fellate Joe Gibbs on the 50 at FedEx.

And Arthur weighs in:

QuoteHey, when is someone going to have the official thread thanking Snyder for the money to do this and for hiring such good people like Schaffer to make it happen? I mean, I am happy the players did this too, but, seriously, if someone came to me and said, "I'll give you more money than you are making now if you do this and I'll guarantee a chunk larger than you're guaranteed now," wouldn't we all do it?

The player who took a pay CUT to do this will get my thanks. The rest just get the tip of the cap for doing the right thing

Someone needs to nuke every taterskin fan. I swear.

Know whats going to be funny?

When the CBA gets extended and :

a. Snyder goes on one of his sprees that the fans say he's not gonna do anymore.
b. Or they don't really sign anyone
c. Or they go on a spree and suck massive amounts of ass this year

:)

Bigskinbauer

first off most of them are making more money...

Portis is removing 3 years from his contract AND adding more money.  I don't know how much of it is loyalty.  Maybe brunell and springs did it for the team because they do hurt themselves but till we know what the contracts actually are I don't think we can say it is because they are good team players

Don't tell that to those sappy bastiches on ES. You'd ruin their orgy.

MDS

You're wrong. Every player in the NFL would pay money to play for 3 time Super Bowl Champ Coach Joe Gibbs, so it's no shock that many taterskins players are willing to take slightly less money this year and just backload their deal in order to prevent being cut and not being paid anything at all.

You could almost fool us into thinking that you're a rational thinking Skins fan.  Too bad for you we already know that they don't exist.

preparing myself?...im the one on the board whos said for over a year that i dont think the skins will ever be in 'cap hell'...that theyve supposedly been in cap hell for the last seven years...i also am on record as saying snyder pays off the league to look the other way on his cap dealings

ASHBURN, Va. - The Washington taterskins worked to slash some $20 million from their payroll Thursday, then learned that austerity measures might not be necessary after all.

Although the taterskins were well above the $94.5 million cap at the start of the day, the team's biggest names were not in danger of being released. An official within the league, speaking on condition of anonymity because the cuts were not announced, said the cuts would not have been as severe as expected because the team had considered the possibility of a breakdown in the agreement when negotiating player contracts over the last two years.

As the day progressed, the taterskins were able to make savings by renegotiating existing deals with cornerback Shawn Springs, running back Clinton Portis and others, the official said, leaving valuable veterans such as offensive linemen Jon Jansen and Randy Thomas and defensive linemen Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels safe from the chopping block.

"As a player, you're about the team," Springs said. "You do the best you can do to help out the team."

Those on the prospective cut list included quarterback Patrick Ramsey, safety Matt Bowen, center Cory Raymer, defensive tackle Brandon Noble and cornerback Walt Harris, but most of those players were expected to be released regardless of the outcome of the collective bargaining agreement talks.

"The taterskins have done an excellent job of restructuring a number of contracts in anticipation of a deal (on the agreement) not being consummated," said agent Leigh Steinberg, who reworked quarterback Mark Brunell's deal earlier in the week.

QuoteAre you seriously so lost as to NOT understand how this structuring complete validates what I've been telling you the last few weeks. We've structured our contracts in such a way as to allow us to do these things quickly and easily. The reason we will have to cut no one of consequence under any CBA circumstance is because we've written contracts to protect against any scenario.

Every single thing you've suggested would be impossible became publically not only as possible, but, to have happened yesterday. And every single thing I've told you for a long while came to fruition. We do contracts differently than teams that try to cheat like the Colts. It's why we're the best there is at cap management. It's something you now have to recognize every day, because, you just got whipped by smarter men than you.

Portis' deal always was going to be redone after the 2008 season. That was always how it was structured from the day it was signed assuming the cap situation would remain as it was. That's the case now. Absolutely NOTHING has altered in the slightest, but, if the BEST you have to hold on to is that we have to resign our running back in three years as a negative, it probably tells you just how good things are and you can't grasp how

At this point, I'd almost be willing to take a strike if it means the Skins getting farged.
