Eagles | McNabb, Trotter no-shows for court over parking violations

Sam Wood, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb and LB Jeremiah Trotter did not appear for a mandatory court appearance Wednesday, March 1, in a South Jersey municipal courtroom. The players are accused of parking in a handicapped spot at a sports bar where Trotter hosted a radio show. A judge rejected letters of defense sent by agents working for the players and said that the players must appear or be represented by an attorney. McNabb and Trotter were cited for failing to appear and will have their hearings rescheduled

McNabb fined, Trotter's license suspended for parking violations

Eagles superstar Donovan McNabb was convicted today of parking his SUV in a handicapped spot - even though his bodyguard admitted he was the driver that day.

Glassboro Municipal Judge Charlee Sprigman at the same time suspended Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotters license after he failed to appear in court to answer three tickets for parking in handicapped spots issued to vehicles registered to him.

Sprigman fined McNabb $256, plus $33 court costs. The quarterback, who has 20 days to appeal, gave no indication whether he would pay or take it to a higher court.

McNabb appeared in court in a white linen suit and dark alligator shoes. He did not speak. He was accompanied by his bodyguard and two lawyers.

McNabb's bodyguard, Troy Oglesby, testified he was driving McNabb's SUV on Nov. 28 and parked in a handicapped spot at the Landmark sports bar in Glassboro. He blamed a bar employee, who was directing traffic in the crowded parking lot.

Glassboro parking activist Maryann Cottrell saw the shiny SUV in the handicapped spot and snapped pictures. Police traced the vehicle to McNabb and mailed a ticket.

Cottrell also reported Trotter's vehicle on at least one occassion.

McNabb's lawyer, Raymond Williams, produced records from Hahnemann University Hospital showing that McNabb underwent surgery for his sports hernia the day of the parking violation.

The judge said New Jersey law considers the vehicle owner jointly responsible, even if someone else is driving.
