I know next to nothing about most of those, but Solaris was a pretty classic book before looooooooooong before it became a movie, which, from what I hear, was painfully true to the original story.

I'm pretty sure that Dark City and Gattica came out before the Matrix. Constantine wasn't deep. I didn't see the other two. If you're just listing 'dark movies with futuristic themes, plot twists and/or special effects' then I don't see your point. Also, none of those movies were box office hits, suggesting a 'trend'. In fact they all bombed outside of The Matrix...

Rachel Weisz shows her boobs in Constant Gardner.  They're kind of pointy and not that hot, despite the fact that she's supposed to be pregnant in the scene.  I would say she's definitely one of those actresses that is not very attractive off-camera or in the nude.

I disagree, i think she's way hotter off-camera, at awards shows and shtein, than she is on-camera.  It has something to do with her bushy eyebrows.  Makes her look weird.  And yes, the torpedo boobs don't help.

Movies for nerds have been made since the beginning of the industry. Just because they've added some special effects recently doesn't make it a trend.

the matrix started a very disturbing trend towards making movies with lower than low acting and writing but high comic book sci fi type feel

i like that movie, i don't own it and i've never seen it start to finish, but i've seen the whole thing one way or another and i really like it.  Vince Vaughn is probably my favorite comedic actor.
