Eh.  So far it had been pretty spot on with the dead.  I probably should've looked for corroboration, but I didn't give a shtein.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Doh! Right you are. I was probably thinking of Curt's ABC colleague Chris Schenkel.

On a serious note, I was still fairly young when Gowdy was still broadcasting on a regular basis.  I probably didn't appreciate him then, as I didn't care who was announcing the games, but he was one of the best at what he did.

Maybe those a bit older than me can remember more about Gowdy.

Curt Gowdy & Joe Garagiola were about the best you could get as far as a broadcast team.

No yapping, just incisive baseball commentary.   Gowdy, in particular, was excellent.  He would let the play happen instead of freaking out or trying to come up with snazzy ways of conveying the obvious.

I have since learned more about this man.  I'm sorry I didn't know of him when he was alive.  I knew some of his work, but didn't realize it was him.  And most of the stuff he did that he's most respected for, I've never heard of.  I'll probably look a little deeper into his catalog, now I that I know who the hell he is.
