Such a shame to see him go. I feel bad for his wife, kids and other family. But they should also be proud to have been the husband, father and family member of such a good man. Despite the grim news that his battle was ending, it didn't fully hit me until today.

If you're around a radio tomorrow during the noon hour, tune into WMGk 102.9 to hear a special tribute to Herb. I gathered some short paragraphs from posters that knew him best but thought jerome99rip was the best. Not all of it will be read but pieces of it will. 'Fly Like an Eagle' will be played for Herb as well. Here's rome's touching paragraph:

Herb Osterhout.  Eaglesfan73.  Both names are one in the same person.  Herb Osterhout was many things. First and foremost, he was a devout Christian, he was a soldier having served with distinction in the U.S. Army, he was a devoted and loving husband and father... but to many of us, he was a simply a fan of a football team called the Philadelphia Eagles. 

In fact, that's where many of us first came into contact with Herb.

You see, for the past several years or so, Herb was a member of a close-knit circle of fans who frequent an internet bulletin board known as the Philadelphia Eagles Message Board.

During much of that time, Herb also waged a valiant battle with cancer.  Through the years, Herb amazed all of us with his strength of will, his unwavering dedication to fight the insidious disease that wracked his body, but most of all, he amazed us with his never-say-die spirit.  That battle ended quietly and peacefully this morning.

Some people might think it trivial that Herb was a fan of a professional football team, and that so many of his friends would share that same passion.  Herb certainly wouldn't be one of them.  To him, being a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles was a way of life.

We mourn Herb's loss today for our own selfish reasons.  We'll miss his kindness, we'll miss his sense of humor, and we'll miss sharing in the ups and downs that come as a result of sharing a passion for a professional football team.  But most of all, we'll miss the man that he was.

Godspeed, Herb.  May the Lord take you in his tender embrace and comfort those of us who'll miss you until we meet again.
