I've never met Herb, nor have I frequented the EMB to "meet" him online. Yet, I get a feel from what people here say about him. He sounds like one of the "good guys," and it is sad to see one of those and his family suffer like this.

I've never met him personally but I was a regular member of the EMB before and after he got sick.  He used to be one of the "regulars" so I remember him quite well.  Always a good poster and obviously loved the Eagles.  But everything I've heard about him from other posters who do know him always had great things to say about him.  Keep fighting Herb.

It's a heartbreaking thing. Herb's been a true friend and he will be sorely missed.

Pics from the day he visited NovaCare

The whole team came over to say hello....he got to meet Jaws....and he got a pic taken with Donovan....  :)

Edit:  I just noticed that I posted the pics back on page 2.  He first announced it was terminal in mid-October of 2004, so he battled for 15 more months after beating it the first time...

My family and I went through a situation like this with my mom this past spring and summer. It seems that the person's outlook on life has a huge impact on the others around them. If they are at peace with themselves and surrounded by their loved ones their passing can be seen as the continuation of a journey. My personal belief is a profound sense of faith in a higher being can ease the pain of passing for their loved ones. My mom's passing was eased for us by her belief that she had had a wonderful, enriching lfe and that it was simply her time to go. She retained her spiritual strength and dignity to the very end. This helped us to view her death as the very zenith of her life rather than the depths of depression. Her wake service was truly a celebration of a remarkable life rather than a depressing event.

Good job by Dave.

I don't think I ever met Herb IRL, but you can tell a lot about a person by the number (and type) of friends they keep. It's obvious that Herb is one terrific guy.

Not sure if he was here other times, but the only home game I recall was the 2004 Packers one where we blew them out.  His NovaCare visit was a few days before that game...

Dave's article was truly moving, and a great tribute to someone who has inspired so many through this long and difficult fight.

While I hope I never have to face something like this, if I do, I hope that I can have one tenth the courage and strength Herb has exhibited in the face of such overwhelming adversity.

May he find the peace he deserves.
