Positives from this Season

I, like many other, have accepted that this season is over. As such I am bored with talking about all of the zesty ass shtein that has befelled this team. There I figured I'd start a thread to talk about the few positives for this team this season and what they mean for the future of the Eagles.

1. Reggie Brown getting playing time:
This is huge. I personally don't care if he puts up big numbers this year, I'm just glad he's starting. Getting time against pro-corners. Running routes on every single offensive play. Learning the systme hands on, rather than sitting and watching or only playing one out of every five or six snaps. Any production from him this season is gravy.

2. LJ Smith being the one and only TE:
Also big for the future of the offense. Although he's had the talent, he hadn't been asked to be the guy yet and a few butter-fingered plays aside he has shown that he can do it. Some big games, solid season. Should be better next year.

3. Mike Patterson:
He's disappeared lately, but given the season the team is having, even that is a good thing if you ask me. He knows he can plays well and showed it early, and he now knows (or should) that he still has to work his tail off to be a force for a full season. He's going to be a beast.

4. Billy McMullen:
He can actually play. Amazing. No he's not a starting caliber WR and he still has some mental toughness issues, but the fact that he has stepped in to contribute at all is a minor miracle. Provides a little bit of depth that I didn't think the team had.

5. Lamar Gordon:
When he is actually used he has been exactly what the offense needs to balance Westbrook's talents. I hope they keep him around.

6. Trent Cole:
I'm still not sure that he is for real, but 5 sacks out of a rookie fifth round DE is f'ing outstanding. It's exciting to think that he and Kearse could be lined up across from each other for the next several years.

7. NO MORE TO:
As I've said before. No matter what happens the rest of the season, I am thrilled with this team for getting rid of that piece of shtein.

It's not much, but there are some positives. I'll go back to being miserable now, assbags.

It will be interesting to see how the secondary plays without Lito.

Also, it was good that they re-signed Westbrook.

Ironically, if Pinkston hadn't gone down, we wouldn't see Reggie getting the time.  Yeah ToothPink, you finally did something helpful.

Getting Adrian Clarke some playing time hasn't hurt either.  He sure looks like a 7th round steal so far, and much better than Hicks this season in limited time.

And, as was mentioned in another thread, maybe McMahon will impress enough to get a 2nd rounder from Miami.
Anyone but Reid.

Drafting 17 offensive linemen a year has allowed the team to unearth a couple of decent players, which is good. I'm not sold on Westbrook's signing being a positive, since a back making that kind of money should be able to shoulder the load when the franchise QB goes down, but it is good that they have him locked up. Just too much money to spend on Eric Metcalf.

Eagles cheerleaders have been satisfyingly hot and scantily dressed.

Reid and the front office holding their ground with T.O.

McNabb showing class off the field and heart on the field.

The fact that I went to K.C. and saw a huge comeback win at Arrowhead.

Knowing I'm not going to die during an Eagles game this year gives me peace of mind and is a very good thing.

I said watch the game and you will see my spirit manifest.-ILLEAGLE 02/04/05

Finally, I don't have to fear Koy Detmer being the back-up.  We have a back-up that's half-way decent.

I'd prefer McNabb any day. But now maybe when McNabb needs a short term break to heal,  Andy and him won't be so reluctant to let him heal.

McNabb has played with busted ribs, leg, hernias etc...  We know Donovan's tough as nails, nothing left to prove now.

But when he's too injured to be near 100%; we have a QB who doesn't make me want to puke when he steps on the field.
