If they bring on Richmond for Short, and Jackson for Fraley... who would they cut to make room for Chad?

the article says they are putting J.R. Reed and Tapeh on IR.  that should free up the roster spots, right?  i think those guys were just on the PUP before.

Nope.  PUP doesn't take a roster spot.

Mahe, of course... DUH!

Well, they would have their prerequisite BYU player on the roster then...

Exactly... the Eagles are too much for one BYU player... but not enough for two.

Just found out that during the 4-game suspension, the Eagles will have freed up a roster spot.

QuoteEagles Notes Chad Lewis may take Owens' spot

Eagles Notes

It appears as if the Eagles are going to replace suspended wide receiver Terrell Owens on their roster with a player who has never uttered a negative word about anyone and has always been one of quarterback Donovan McNabb's biggest fans.

The Eagles confirmed yesterday that tight end Chad Lewis was being brought in for an examination today of his left foot, which he severely injured while catching the game-clinching touchdown pass for the team in last season's NFC championship game.

Lewis has been rehabilitating from the Lisfranc sprain since before last season's Super Bowl. Lewis, 34, made it clear in the off-season that he still wanted to play and that the Eagles were his first choice. He only recently reached the point where he felt he was ready to return to the field.

Interestingly, Lewis had his foot surgically repaired by Mark Myerson, the same doctor who operated on Owens last season after the star receiver fractured his right leg and suffered a severe ankle sprain.

The Eagles will have a spot available for the next three games because they can place Owens on the reserved-suspended list and add a player to the roster. It's also quite possible that they're going to need a tight end for Monday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Starting tight end L.J. Smith suffered a concussion in Sunday night's loss to the Washington taterskins, and there was speculation that he would miss at least the game against the Cowboys. Rookie Stephen Spach, the backup tight end, suffered a foot injury and visited Myerson earlier this week.

Lewis, who spent parts of seven seasons with the Eagles and played in three Pro Bowls, has caught 224 passes for 2,297 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career.

In other injury news, there were reports yesterday that center Hank Fraley's shoulder strain is going to require surgery that will end his 2005 season. The Eagles would not confirm those reports. Fraley has not missed a game since becoming the starting center on opening day in 2001.

The Eagles' backup center is Trey Darilek, a fourth-round draft choice in 2004 who has had limited playing experience.

The fight club

An Eagles source said yesterday that Hugh Douglas' involvement in the trainer's room fight with Owens last week has been incorrectly reported.

The source said that Douglas, who is the Eagles' team ambassador, was in the trainer's room talking about calls he received on WIP-AM (610), saying that Owens was faking his ankle injury. According to the source, Douglas was telling a player that he defended Owens, claiming the wide receiver would not fake an injury.

The source said that Owens walked in and confronted Douglas after hearing just a portion of the conversation.

"The characterization that Hugh went in and accused Terrell of faking the injury is wrong," the source said.

 :yay

Good luck, Chad.

I'm not upset with this move -- I hope Chad has some stuff left in the tank.

I would see no reason why he wouldn't. It wasn't like he didn't last year. His tank is fine...just hope his foot holds up. He's had PLENTY of rehab time though  :yay
