Would you give GM to Reid solo and hire Weis as coach?

As a true troll, I saw this on NFL Network.   JJ has this D playing bonkers right now, if the O plays anywhere near how well our D is playing, we basically breeze by the rest of the season.  Only problem could be Reid would continue to staff the team with passing guys.

Weis is available via a 1.5 million dollar buy-out.  For those that think Reid isn't in the top 5/10...whatever, where do you place Weis? ...ahead of Reid?
Pass.  Pass. Pass. PUNT.  No pro bowl WR's.  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  Retarded special teams.  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  "I've got to do a better job."  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  Running game shines for 3 plays. Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  No adjustments anywhere.  Pass.  Pass. Pass. PUNT.  (repeat)

Right, let's run the most successful coach the Eagles have ever had out of town.  ::)

Get real, you know damn well AR won't run outta town.

I would do it and I think Reid is a top flight coach.

This is an interesting scenario.  The big question would be if Weiss and Reid would see eye to eye on players.  Would Weiss want different players than what the Eagles have?  Would Reid agree with Weiss' player evaluations?  Would Weiss finally be the guy to cut Reno Mahe and would Reid approve?

I would only do it if Reid decided he wanted to be a full time GM and get out of coaching.  But I don't think I would "force" Reid into that role.  If anything, I would go the other way and hire a GM and make him strictly a coach again.

If we were to do something like this, why go outside the fold?  Just promote Childress to HC.
Anyone but Reid.

JJ has this D playing bonkers right now

first off no he doesnt...do you remember the game before sd against dallas??...the birds defense is 20th in the nfl...yes they played well against lt but lets not start sucking our own penis

as for andy hes has had his chance and has proven to not be good enough...yes hes the best coach the eagles have ever had...yes he deserves much credit for what hes done...but we are beyond all that...its time to take it to the next level and win a superbowl...whether weis is that man or not its hard to say...hes eight games into his head coaching career so i wouldnt say hes the man to take over a team on the cusp of a superbowl...but i do know the eagles need someone other than reid to take them to the next level

First off, if you're going to give him GM power and ask him to step down as head coach, HE would have the power, as GMs around the league do, of hiring his own coach. Do you think he would bring in Weis?

Second, as another poster said, are you going to judge Weis on ONLY 8 GAMES AS A COLLEGE HEAD COACH to magically anoint him as the next great thing in NFL coaching? The NFL landscape is littered with GREAT COORDINATORS WHO WEREN'T GREAT HEAD COACHES IN THE NFL:

Rich Kotite--he took the Eagles offense to a new level as OC, but we all knew what kind of decision maker he was aas a head coach

Ray Rhodes--another Eagles coach who won all of those Super Bowls in SF as a coordinator. He got the Eagles as far as the divisional round in 1996 and then they collapsed. He went to GB and was equally inept there and was fired after 1 season

Marty Morenwheig--another good coordinator when he was in SF--what happened to him when he went to Detroit??

Greg Williams--another good coordinator with Tennessee, was a bust in Buffalo, and now is doing well again as a coordinator in D.C.

Steve Mariucci--he was OC in SF, before he became head coach. He took the 49ers to a couple of playoff appearances, but with all the talent he had in the latter years there and now in Detroit, he's done nothing.

Lastly, in the NFL right now, if Reid, say were to go to Green Bay next year ( if he could finagle a release from his contract), who woulld you think could take this team to the Super Bowl?

At any rate, Bob Lamonte, who is Weis' agent, has come out and said he's not interested in moving to the NFL right now.

rjs246

Weis will be an outstanding head coach as long as he has good defensive coordinators. His offensive game-planning, game adjustments and self-scouting was unparralelled in New England and would be a breath of fresh air here.

Of course this scenerio is completely outside the realm of possibility, but the Weis/Reid HC/GM combo would give me a boner.
