i think akers should be put on IR

the hammy will bother him all season, even when he comes back. i dont want a kicker who's kicking at 80%, especially when that -20% is the one muscle that is most important to his job.

what happens in 8-12 weeks when akers is cleared to play? you have to cut france, and is now ineligible to go back on the practice squad, and he will be most likely signed to replace some deadbeat kicker somewhere else in the league. give akers the year off. if not, you are running a BIG risk of a repeat of the raiders game.

too much of a risk in the playoffs. i take my chances with a healthy kicker than a potentially gimpy kicker with a bad hammy.

And Akers was once cut by the taterskins.... what's your point ?   other than hindsight is freakin 20/20......  Could you have picked Akers out of New Kids on the Block lineup back then ?

Reuben Frank, of phillyBurbs.com, reports a second opinion revealed some tendon damage in addition to Philadelphia Eagles PK David Akers' hamstring tear, which means Akers will be out at least another two months. Akers said last week he had no idea how long he'd be out, so the news is not overly surprising. The Eagles must decide whether to keep two kickers on the 53-man roster or place Akers on Injured Reserve and end his season.

I'd leave Akers on the active roster.  When he returns, we could keep France -- if he's still around -- as insurance.  So what if we carry 2 kickers on the roster.  It's not as if Thornburg or McCoy will contribute much this season anyhow .

there are exceptions to the rule...zach thomas comes to mind...but they are few and far btwn...bottom line rule is dont draft a white linebacker until at minimum third round

So, you wouldn't draft AJ Hawk or Chad Greenway next year in round one because they are white??
