Reid would not put a timetable on Akers' return. But it is very safe to assume he won't kick Oct. 9 against Dallas, and then the team has a bye the following week. The next game you could see Akers is Oct. 23 at home against San Diego, but even that might be pushing it.

"It's killing him to miss games," Akers' agent, Gerold Colton, said. "But he feels better in light of what happened Sunday.

"Right now, he's in serious pain. But you know David, he'll work hard and he'll be back as soon as he can."

In the meantime, Reid must decide on a roster move to get practice squad kicker Todd France onto the 53-man roster.

"We'll do that down the road," Reid said.

The Eagles have until Saturday to make the move with France, and the likely decision is to waive undrafted rookie safety Jeremy Thornburg and try to get him on the practice squad after he clears waivers. Another lesser possibility would be to come up with an injury for rookie linebacker Matt McCoy and put him on injured reserve.

Walker injured his thigh during Friday's practice when he took a helmet to the area. He finished practice, but felt worse Saturday.

"There's swelling, bleeding," Reid said. "It was a freak thing. He'll miss this week at the least."

Does Walker wear thigh pads?  Coaches usually get on a player if they suffer this type of injury due to not wearing adequate protection.

It's disappointing that McCoy can't get onto the active roster.  Kirk Morrison, McCoy's teammate at San Diego St. (who was picked later incidentally), was starting for the Raiders.

when will heads realize that about 1/100 white linebackers are players...and about 1/1000 are big time players....if you want to draft one for special teams thats fine but dont do it in the second round...that was ridiculously high for him

Eckel was the first one to suggest that McCoy may be a bust--and that's was in preseason.

Now to suggest that Reid come up with some fake injury to stash an otherwise useless player...I'd take that as a backhanded insult.

there are exceptions to the rule...zach thomas comes to mind...but they are few and far btwn...bottom line rule is dont draft a white linebacker until at minimum third round
