49ers OL Thomas Herrion died tonight after the Broncos-49ers game. They were in the locker room and Mike Nolan spoke to the team and then Herrion collapsed. Paramedics and team trainers gave him CPR and they rushed him to a local hospital where he died a few hours later.

The temps in Denver were in the 60's with 50% humidity, but they say you can still have heat related problems in cooler weather because your core temp still rises.

They do not know the reason he died yet though.

Sad story. :'(

In addition to the dangers from heat and exhaustion, there's always some risk in being 310 pounds, even among these athletes who are otherwise in great shape. I feel bad for his family. Unfortunately, as professional athletes push themselves ever harder and closer to the limits of human capability, I can see things like this becoming more common. Hopefully they'll learn what caused his collapse and the league will be able to take some steps to help prevent similar events in the future, but there's only so much it's feasible to do.

This is a sad story. I can't imagine losing a kid period, let alone one who had achieved so much at such a young age. Link to a decent bio and interview, when Herrion was with NFL Europe. It says he had a big head.   :-[

The NFL old standard.

By no means was it really cold in Denver, but it's actually harder to keep your body hydrated in cooler temps than it is when it's hot out because you're body uses up so much energy trying to keep warm.  Regardless though, still a very sad story.

Wow, that sucks. Sad for him. I hope it wasn't something that was preventable.

WEST is GOD

Unfortunately, when you are that big, and play a game that is so physically draining, you always take that kinda risk.
THIS SEASON IS OVER AND ANDY'S WORLD IS GRIDL

Offseason needs: 2 DEs, 1 DT, 1 OL, 2 LBs, 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 KR.

Such a goddamn shame. Read about him collapsing last night and was concerned and then asaw early this morning that he had passed away.

23 years old. It's just not right.

Unfortunately, with the ever-increasing size of linemen, this could soon be epidemic.

My heart goes out to his family.
Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

QuoteHERRION HAD A SEIZURE

A league source tells us that 49ers lineman Thomas Herrion had a seizure in the locker room.

Per the source, Herrion had a seizure minutes after the team prayer.  He was revived and was talking before a second incident, which prompted the team's trainers to get an ambulance and to commence CPR.

The team is expected to release these and other details regarding the situation on Sunday afternoon.

Their league source must be a radio station in San Fran. Because that's where that was brought up.
