If you've used abstract thinking at all, then you've used algebra and calculus.  The point of teaching that shtein isn't to make you process math problems like a computer, it's to teach you how to think.

Tell that to the state of Florida.  (I agree, by the way.  Unfortunately, the political leeches in the state legislature and the bean counters at the DOE do not.)
