And the funny thing is the only reason he did was bc of the stock tanking

Btw the previous CEO was worse than this dude. There was a lot of optimism when Munoz replaced Smisek...

Why are these needed changes? Obviously police brutality needs to stop, but I don't see anything wrong with Das Boot rule.

because if you pay for a service on a specific day and time you should know that that is what you are receiving...I don't have a problem with overbooking and allowing the passengers to choose to give up their seat but no one should be denied a flight or kicked off a plane they paid for

otherwise just make every flight first come first serve and once the flight is filled anyone still in line is out of luck

It affects well less than 1% of air travelers and presumably doesn't happen at the whim of the airline. It happens to allow people to travel for emergencies, and I'm ok with the risk that poses to me in order to help out others.

Forty thousand divided by 650 million is 0.00006154. That's 0.006%. Even if you take the larger number of occurrences reported by CNBC, 1 out of 1,200, it's still only 0.08%. Assuming we have a maximum number of fargs to give, the Das Boot Rule doesn't rank.

you are throwing out percentages about how rare it is then saying it's for a one in a million emergency...im not buying it...and lol at thinking the rule exists for the passengers benefit

175 seats 175 tickets....fair is fair Billie jean...or overbook but printed on tickets 176 and above is a disclaimer that says this ticket is only valid for this flight if there are x amount of no shows ahead of you and those peopke can wait in a standby line

bottom line is before you pay you should know exactly what you are getting

Implementing a change to the regulation will cost resources that would be better spent almost literally anywhere else.

Of course the rule isn't for the passengers' benefit, but the rule does allow people to fly sooner in emergencies. Your proposals don't allow the airlines the flexibility to make those accommodations.

United was at fault for overbooking the flight, not resolving the situation with professionalism, calling in thugs to forcibly remove an old man from his seat, bloodying the man when he refused to comply with their gestapo tactics, refusing to apologize for their ridiculous handling of the situation, blaming the passenger, and finally issuing lame ass "apologies" for their bungling of the affair from beginning to end.

And I don't care if the language is in the contract.   I don't care if there's a "das boot" rule.   And I don't care if he acted like an icehole.  He deserves to be treated with dignity and respect even if he acts like a farging douchebag because the onus is on the company and their employees to act with restraint even if things get heated.

The thugs are from Chicago PD. United isn't responsible or accountable for the actions of the police.

With that logic, cancellations and delays are also unacceptable.

When you buy a plane ticket, you hope it's going to leave at that time on that day, but the only thing you know for sure is at some point you're going to get from airport A to airport 2.

I definitely have said shtein like that at work, but it still holds true here. I don't want my tax dollars wasted trying to address something that's not an issue. Maybe I'll feel differently if this ever starts happening anywhere close to 1% of the time, but seeing how the high point in the past almost 30 years is 0.22%, I doubt I'll have to worry about it.
