W was an idiot bumpkin who was dangerous because he was too stupid to know or care that the people around him were war profiteers.

Having said that, I've come to the fairly easy conclusion that the man himself wasn't and isn't evil. He's a perfect example of why you don't elect someone whose only qualifying criteria is that you'd like to have a beer with him. And while I think that most of his policies were rooted in incompetence, he did more to address the AIDS epidemic in Africa than anyone on the planet (while 45 would rather just pretend the continent doesn't exist) and he expanded the social safety net at home. That doesn't excuse him for getting the country into a forever war or obliterating the national debt or all of the other things he did wrong, but in the face of true indifference and malignant evil that we have now it's pretty clear that while W was a moron, he wasn't at his core a bad human being.
