They call us for directions all the time. Bro...get a GPS.

Even though they do make GPS units specifically for truckers, they're not usually accurate when it comes to assigning routes that are truck legal.  They're fine on the highways obviously just to let you know when your exit is coming up or for traffic alerts and eta, but they'll get a driver fired on city streets.

theres even highways that have a weight limit that prevents trucks from using

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or just legit making a point, but yes, some stretches of highway have weight restrictions.  Most of them are called bridges. Also in mountains on steep grades for obvious reasons.

You are right about truckers being republican though. Except the black truckers. And the Hispanic drivers. And the middle eastern cats. But white truckers are almost entirely gop 4 life. I had like 50 drivers worming for me. 1 was dominican and probably doesnt even vote, but if he did it would probably be dem. Out of the other 49, all white and probably 48 of them were gop.

Why did you have them digging for worms?!

I know there are bridge and weight restrictions. But calling into the office isn't going to get them answers on that. Mainly because they've never asked and also because we don't know that info.

That's on their dispatch to give them the info.

In Houston there have been about four bridges hit on the main highways in the last couple years. And these aren't short bridges...they're the normal 14-6' or higher...the drivers had oversized loads and still tried to pass through.

It is, but most dispatchers are lazy as hell and could be 1500 miles away and don't give a farg about some driver rolling around TX.  Driver just wants to deliver his shtein and go. So he's going to call the people who should know the area best, which is your office.

Yeah, I know. I was being a smart ass with the bridges comment. I know, you suck at humor. This one's all on me homie.

PhillyPhreak54

But they never ask anything other than "yeah where y'all located?"

Lots of crystal got farged up that day.

As opposed to the normal trucker mode of being farged up on lots of crystal.

Has nothing to do with weight...trucks just aren't allowed on the parkways of northern NJ, NYC, south western CT, etc.

I don't think you're grasping the concept of GPS getting drivers fired. In my short time working in that god awful industry, I had seen probably a dozen drivers get fired because they followed their GPS and it took them down a road with some sort of truck restriction.  We had 1 driver delivering out near Chicago who peeled the top of his trailer back like a sardine can because his GPS sent him down a road that had an overpass that was about 2" too low.  GPS are not accurate for truck approved streets in the US.  Many companies discourage them and most drivers flat out don't trust them.  If I were a driver, I wouldn't have one. I'd just call you for directions.

PhillyPhreak54

I totally understand that. We have 6 tractor trailers that on are on the roads daily - many times they go into the hickville's with smaller and narrower roads, lower bridges and low hanging trees around Houston and they have to be cognizant of the road restrictions.

We use GPS insight in our trucks and they have a lot of the issues notated on routes plugged in by the drivers.

But like I said...not once in almost ten years has a driver called and asked about any road restrictions. They want turn by turn directions - some of them as soon as they hit the border into the state.
