The only thing I knew about the original Westworld is that the movie and its sequel were super early in their use of computerized special effects. The sequel Futureworld used a graduate project by Ed Catmull (president of Pixar), so it had 3D animation in a farging 1976 movie.

TWD must have been camping tonight because it was in tents.

Rome

It's pouring rain in LA and they're doing a live Talking Dead outside.

The episode sucked, btw.   It was predictable and boring.

Sgt PSN

Predictable, yes. Not much real action, but still not boring.

I'm watching talking dead. Normally don't but since they've got the entire cast from tonight on, why not?  Refusing an umbrella in the rain is the most manly thing Chris Hartwick has ever done.

Rome

He catches tons of shtein for being a douche, and rightfully so, but I think he's actually good at his job.

As for TWD, I'm in for the duration as I have been since the beginning.  It's a goofy soap opera but once you've watched six years, there's no point in stopping.

Plus Rosita would get it.  Bigly.

I'm close to over it now. While I like a good fight scene or whatever bloody thing they come up with, I'm thinking they went a little too far over the line. The gratuitous crap the special effects people are doing - just because they can - has finally overshadowed whatever limited plot or character appeal they were clinging to.

I knew what was going to happen because I read the graphic novel and a bunch of spoilers. Really the way they ended the last season pissed me off so I wanted to find out who he killed as soon as possible.

It's not a great show, but it's mindless entertainment for an hour, and the whole zombie apocalypse theme is something I've been into my whole life. So I'll watch until they pull the show.

If this season goes as the comic book goes, it should be a good season. As you can tell from last night, Negan is a real son of a bitch, they're just touching the surface with his character too.

I think it's just the opposite, actually.

Seasons 1 and 2 were basically about the Zombie threat.
Season 3 shifted gears and the zombies fell to the background and people became the #1 threat, starting with the Governor. And that was basically the the theme for the next few seasons...Terminus hipster cannibals, crazy Dawn, Wolves, etc.  The group adapted, survived, and began to thrive.  But Negan is an entirely different dynamic. All other groups of people were relatively small and contained to a specific area and were only looking to basically sustain.

Negan is on some sort of expand/enslave/dictate trip, which has not been seen in this world yet. He's not looking just to survive, he's trying to rule like it's mid-evil times.

Having not read the novels and not having a clue about what might be coming, I'm fascinated by this new dynamic.  Rick and the group have basically been the big fish in a small pond for the last few seasons, but it appears that they just made their way into the ocean and Negan is a farging great white.

Believe me...I understand the story. And I have no problem with Negan being a really, really bad guy. I also understand that they followed the graphic novel, but sometimes things are just better left to the imagination. They could have pulled that episode off with a lot less violence porn, and it would have been just as riveting. Maybe even more so.

yeah last night's episode actually made me a little uncomfortable. and this is from someone who has wanted most of the main characters to die for years.

Sgt PSN

I feel like had they been less graphic, that I, as a viewer, would not really have a clue just how scary and brutal Negan really is.  The entire point of the episode appears to be for Negan to essentially break Rick and the group's will.  This has been an exceptionally resilient group of people, so if you're going to break them down like that, it really can't be left to the imagination, imo. I get that it was off putting...probably the first time in the series I considered looking away, but the audience definitely needs to see how the "heros" of the show get reduced to an absolute surrender.

And the producers of the show have always been pretty up front about the fact that they are constantly trying to find new ways to make the audience uncomfortable. They definitely succeeded last night.

SD

Biggest disappointment last night is Rick didn't cut Carl's arm off.

twr sucks....its a bad show about a fun thing but it sucks
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
