My drug dealer was all destroyed watching some Youtube series called Vietnam in HD the other day, ended up watching with him for 3 hours. Really good if you like that stuff. Can't find it on Netflix or anything, seems to be only on youtube somehow. Apparently they were already filming in HD back then but we just couldn'tt watch it until recently. Amazing footage.

Technically isn't like The Birth of a Nation from 1915 shot in HD? Film is higher definition than what is considered HD. There are a lot of issues with cleaning up old source material, but provided you have the film and it isn't destroyed, there's a hell of a lot of old content that would look great remastered as HD or even 4K.

How long does it usually take to cool in radioactivity? And when you buy new fuel is that bought from the govt or are their suppliers for the plutonium and uranium?

The very nature of radiation is that the most dangerous stuff decays the fastest, so the worst of the worst is gone in the first few days. It's kind of a judgement call how long to keep it in the pool. I've seen everything from 1 to 20 years. It's mostly for the heat though. The spent fuel will always be somewhat radioactive, just decreasing forever. There are some isotopes that take billions of years to decay. That's the case with natural uranium, and most of the spent fuel is still uranium.

Basically you don't want to stand next to the whole assembly of unshielded fuel for many generations, but if a little bit leaked into the ground or water or something, it probably wouldn't be deadly. Shielding and dilution are big deals.

Uranium enrichment is a commercial business. Like the reactors themselves, the government has access to everything and is heavily involved. The enrichment levels are well below what's needed for weapons. Plutonium is typically not sold as a fuel, it's something that's created during the process. It can be used though. The UK and France reprocess their waste, pull the plutonium out, and use that as fuel. And it's probably the best way to get rid of nuclear weapons... turn them into electricity.

When you say mostly for the heat - how hot does it get usually? It's crazy to think that something like that could last billions of years.

And when they change the fuel and put it in the pool if it's so hot what do they use to handle it with? And am I correct in thinking the fuel is in a rod shape? How big are those things?

Well I could but someone who worked in the field gives a little more interesting explanation than google, pal.

So go on back to your tapioca pudding and bingo!

That forest fire is serious shtein. From what I read it exploded to 10 times its size from yesterday, and they could see a city burn.

Vietnam in HD was a series on the History Channel.  They also did WWII in HD and WWI in HD(Shocker).

That fire is Alberta is scary shtein.  I was just reading about the concerns of biologist about the drought and the impact it was having to waterfowl breeding.  Clearly that wasn't the only problem because it looks like Dante's Peak meets 2012 in that picture and others.  Saw one guy trying to make it out on a motorcycle, not really a good escape vehicle with burning ash falling.

I'll have to look for the WWII one. The wife watched a couple of Vietnam episodes with me, but she said she'd have a hard time watching anything gruesome in WWII, because of some of the stuff her father went through.

An old article but still a good read on how farged Baltimore's city jail is.

Couple things from my experience;

It's pretty accurate as to how some places can get with the inmates running things. We had to take over a jail from a private company because inmates and officers were getting pregnant and the drugs and money inside were crazy.

The BGF's in Texas weren't as big as the Latino and White gangs - but the BGF's that you ran across were some bad mofo's. They were less tightly organized as the Latino's and White's.

Almost had a helluva accident today.

farging dipshtein pulled out in front of me. Four land road with a median so two lane each side. I'm in the left lane and another f150 was next to me and turning right. The almost dead dude in his little Toyota didn't bother to look and assumed he was clear to cross the road and go left once the truck in the right lane turned right.

He pulled out and it's crazy how shtein slows down when something like that is about to happen. I was within feet of plowing right into his drivers door. I stood on the brakes and jacked the wheel left and missed the front of his car by inches. My ass end whipped around a bit and that helped miss him too.
