1) nobody wants to sign with this pos team...hey david price do you want to wait 2 years for jp crawford to develop? no? why not!

2) you cant sign pitching on the FA market until youre right there. FA arms are at and around 30, which is when they start trending downhill. so its a 5-7 yeas deal with the backhalf likely being a wash. think cliff lee. its a 5 year deal and he gave them half of it. so when youre a true contender you can do it, knowing youre getting the stud at his peak when youre good. the phillies, david price or not, cant win next year and at best can be competitive in 2017. so now youre asking david price or zach grineke to basically waste 2 years of their primes.

You're paying them exorbitant sums of money to waste two years of their primes.   I don't want them to waste money on big money free agents this winter anyway, but it's not as if Middleton won't break the bank to sign a Price or Greinke or both.  And it's not as if they wouldn't take the highest bid either.

grienke is a 100 years old and i dont think hes gonna opt out anyway....regardless lil guy is right they are nowhere near close enough to winning to give out some awful jon lester type deal to anyone much less two people

the worst thing they can do is overpay for price or grienke by 10-15 mil....i mean even if they sign these guys their lineup isnt close. i dont even know why this is a discussion.

middleton will pay big money but the phillies arent ready to spend it yet. the FA classes are shaping up to be good in 19, 20, 21. thats about when, logically, they will turn into a contender if this thing works out.

As I said, I hope they don't.  There's no need for it.  I'm just saying that money is no object with this team especially after they clear the remaining dead money off the books.

And BTW... Greinke has 3/$71M left on that option.  That's chicken feed compared to what he could earn on the open market.  Figure at least $140M over 6 years.  Someone will be dumb enough to fork it over.  No doubt about it.
