no lists yet, but its probably going to be a young nerd who will treat your heroes (other grown men) as commodities not as greek gods
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The hero line

Rome

The Yankees are still good 6 years after winning the World Series.  So are the Cardinals.   The Dodgers reloaded and are in the hunt again.

It can be done especially with a monster payroll.  They should have cut bait after 2012 but they doubled down on aging fossils.

And here we are.

MDS

the yankees are 1 for their last 4 in trying to buy a decent team...its not sustainable.

the dodgers payroll is north of 300 mil. theyre in a class of their own.

the phillies bought lee, flexed their muscles for halladay and bough a closer. so they spent fairly wildly. it didnt work because their core was old...so if they move on from that....theres those young players again maybe needing some time to figure it out.

again. there was always going to be a comedown from 08-11. amaro simply extended it.

QuoteYesterday, the organization finally announced its judgment, and on all counts it agreed. What we have witnessed over the last four years has been a spectacular failure, and an avoidable one. There is a certain strain of revisionism going around that suggests the Phillies were victims of their own success, that their five straight division titles and best-in-history rotation pushed expectations to a point that exceeded reality, that nothing beyond luck could have prevented what we've seen.

This is a silly notion, the opiate of the mediocre, of minds that take comfort in regression to the mean. It is a loser's mentality.

Look around baseball, and this is what you see: The Cardinals, who have had one losing season since 1999. The Angels, who have not had back-to-back losing seasons since 1992-94. The Yankees, who are closing in on their 23rd consecutive season with a winning record. The Rays, who finished above .500 in six straight seasons despite a minuscule payroll, and who have not come close to resembling the embarrassment that their opponent in the 2008 World Series became. The Red Sox, who had a 16-year stretch from 1998-2013 that featured 15 winning records and three world titles. They do not view defeat as inevitable: With a month left in their second straight losing season, they made a change.

Boom.

I'm glad he's gone, but in the interest of fairness and objectivity, Rube did as good of a job as anyone could have expected to keep the Phils in a position to win multiple championships between 2009-2012. You can't really blame the GM because a 102 win team didn't  get beyond the WC round.

Problem is that nearly every move he's made since that run ended has been one bad decision after another.  I think it pretty much started with the Papelbon signing and then went straight downhill from there.

Either way, this is the smartest decision the team made in the last 3 or 4 years.

Don Ho

2011 will sting for awhile.  Doc, Lee, Heidi, Lee Harvey.  No excuse.

Lee game 2, 4-0 lead.  yak.

Oswalt pitched like a bitch in game 4 and if I recall "thought" he pitched pretty good, go back to your tractor.

Doc had a great game 5 in that duel with Carpenter but he was lucky as hell the bums bats won game 1 as he was tossing BP that game.

T Mac not in booth tonight.  You realize how bad Stairs and Murphey are.  I could handle T Mac and Schmitty.

There are two Chicago clowns dressed as the Ditka Da Bears characters from SNL sittign behind home plate.  I have visions of disembowling them with a gaff, yet once again I should be disembowled for watching this shtein show.  More about watching the Cubs and it's raining here.

altherr with a 2B and a 3B today, too. i really like him.

between him, franco, jp and williams, they have a potential core. the issue is pitching. the 2016 draft has no outrageous stud, but the top is lining up to be pitching heavy.

The good thing about pitching is you don't have to develop it you can just sign two studs and have Nola as your #3 and be halfway decent. This upcoming free agent pitching market is absurd and the Phils have plenty of money. No reason it shouldn't happen this offseason.
