they can buy a competitive team this offseason if they wanted to. by 2017 theyll have some youngins and 150 mil in salary space to spend. you really, really dont understand baseball.

even if you dont think anybody in their system is going to hit, which would be based on nothing more than that special igy brand of fear and paranoia, then just look at the salary space. its a ton of money!

They could buy an entire team of high priced free agents and not even blink twice.   Suggesting they can't be competitive for another five years is nonsense.   2016 is out and probably 2017 as well but 2018 is entirely in play simply because the talent they have in the system will be ready and the money they'll have to spend will be astronomical.

That's why it's so important to pick the right general manager to direct the rebuild and farging Ruben ain't the guy.

the yankees bought their current team and theyre going to make the playoffs....the pirates have drafted and well and built from the ground up and they havent made the nlcs yet.

2017 is a logical and realistic target year from them to be competitive and give us a baseball summer. that doesnt mean 2017 is going to be a juggernaut world series contender. just a decent team that can hang in a 2nd wc race at the least. theres really no debating that.
