well its not going to take 5 minutes....16 isnt going to be great, but yea, theyve gone from a 20-25 farm system to a 5-10 in the past year. its a fact.

i want them to lose out more than anyone too. but you dont need a trout/harper level dude to win in mlb.

It's not fraud, it's depth. Depth doesn't appear to be much when that's all you have (like they do now) but it's the key to sustaining a system. You get another top-end guy in the system to pair with JP it'll look much better.

i dont know other teams systems and who their prospects are....the big boys rank them top 10. i know the phils system well and see a ton of depth. i see what theyre doing at the ML levels with altherr and herrera. i see what theyre doing at AA with williams, thompson and knapp.

those things lead me to believe this thing might be pretty good in 17 or 18

im far from an expert on most other teams but i do see the write ups btwn phillie prospects and other teams and the current group of phils seems lackluster to me compared to most

this doesnt count low and high A tho....you can always get out of nowhere guys from clearwater or lakewood

I agree with Todd on this:

- Record-wise, this year is probably the bottom-out point, though next year could be at the same level.
- "Future-prospect-wise," last year was probably the bottom out point.  They still had Rollins-Utley-Howard all on the payroll and on the roster, and there was much less in the pipe.

Basically, it's starting back on the up-swing, but it's got an extremely long way to go.

I love what they've done in terms of purging the roster of dead wood.  They got some decent young talent in return.  They have billions about to come in from Comcast, so it's not unrealistic to see them contending in two or three years if everything goes right.    I still think it's a colossal mistake keeping Ruben at the helm, though.   I would have fired his smug ass as my first order of business.

"extremely long" is probably too conservative. most of their prospects are in AA or already up. by 2017 id project a pretty competitive team. i wouldnt say "great" in 2017, just simply competitive.
