single handedly willed the team to overtake them.

the mets werent some juggernaut...they won 1 nl east title with that group. then they gagged for 2 straight seasons. i dont think jimmy had a ton to do with tom glavine getting ripped up by the marlins on the last day of the season.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

mets are irrelevant.....jimmy had everything to do with changing the culture of the phillies and making them believe they could win....something a schmidt GRIT or choke was incapable of doing because of their personalities...the 80 phillies needed a pete rose for this same reason

how did he change the culture of the phillies

they pretty much had the same core from like 05-12 and won 1 world series in that span. jimmy pretty much arrived in 2001.

He talked shtein in the press and backed it up.

That's what's important, dude.

he got them to believe they could win and they did....he was the unquestioned leader of that team and they dont win without him

everthing changed when he said we are the team to beat in the spring of 07....then went out and won the mvp behind that and finally got them in the playoffs which then obviously turned into a ws title a year later

not sure why this needs explanation if you followed the team at all back then

No one is denigrating Rollins.  Pretty sure he's fairly popular here.  MJS though is one of the best players of all time, hit .381 with 2 HRs in the World Series, and was a lifer.  I give Rollins as much credit as anyone for this core's success but he just isn't the same caliber player Schmidt was.

again...schmidt better player but rollins better phillie

everything changed so much so the phillies needed a historic mets collapse to even make the playoffs. jimmy did have a great personal season, though. sure.

the thing about those glory years is they didnt really have a "leader." jimmy had swagger and flair, utley had intensity, victorino brought spark and energy, hamels brought the menstrual cycle. it was all there.

bwahahaha....you either trolling or you didnt watch those teams...were you in texas then?

if you think schmidt was a better phillie then fine..thats a valid take...but to say jimmy wasnt the leader of the phils then is outrageous

sees what happening here is some good old fashioned revisionist history.

look, you are a bleeding heart liberal. and a contrarian. you personally like jimmy more than utley. you have a preferred race and like going against whatever the consensus popular thing is. this is established, even beyond this particular situation.

so now youve built it up into your mind that jimmy, who was essentially the same person from the moment he arrived -- confident, slick, full of swagger -- was the one to personally push the phillies over the top. this is not true. he was A reason. he was one of the big reasons. but it wasnt just jimmy. it was everyone. they were a pretty good team, allbeit one that simply didnt perform well enough in the playoffs after 2008. jimmy included.

you dont think he was the team leader but im a contrarian?....you are just making up stuff to make it up...im stating all facts

jimmy wasnt the only one on the field to do it (obviously but he was the single solitary reason why the clubhouse was able to win

no jimmy no title....and other than heidi (and possibly lidge) hes the only player on the team you can say that about
