Last post by Rome - December 31, 2025, 07:11:24 PMWas at Lowe's this afternoon with my buddy who's helping me install a door on my Florida room. The clowns at Lowe's gave me a ball park $2,500 for the door which I laughed at on my way out the door.
As we were leaving he gets a call from his daughter who is crying her eyes out. Turns out his ex-brother in law died of a heart attack this afternoon at 72.
On our way out to Lowe's he told me that the guy had called him out of the blue yesterday afternoon just to touch base and catch up with him. A half hour later he gets the news that the guy died of a heart attack. Just wow.
Life is short, boys. Never forget that.

Some or all of the following occurred: Contractors working outside of their trade license and insurance coverage, unlicensed contractors , employees paid cash/given 1099s, no workman's comp, no engineer review/stamp, no warranty on any of the workmanship, use of undocumented immigrant labor, someone/everyone working for cost only, permits not pulled, materials of questionable provenance, etc.
Lots and lots of work gets done that way.
It's not possible to compete on price with people who engage in some/all of these practices if you're operating legally and responsibly.

We paid about $9k to have a bunch of painting done, shiplap installed, board and batten walls in two bedrooms, bead board wainscot etc prior to moving in.

Some douche in a huge black truck - I'm assuming was maga - swerved into our lane and swiped my daughter's jeep knocking the driver side mirror off. The driver initially stopped then took off. By the time we could turn around they were long gone. Made a police report but couldn't find the mirror cover. Went back in the morning and found it on the side of the road. Buffed the scratches out and reattached the cover. I did a ring alert hoping the douche would see it and at the very least have to look over their shoulder. People are iceholes.

Last post by SD - December 31, 2025, 02:58:16 PMHad my bathroom redone while I was on vacation early August. They turned a cramped bathroom into a 5 star hotel level bathroom. Had them knock down a wall, build a glass shower and put a separate tub in, new tiles, vanity etc. Cost around $25k and was worth every penny. Bathroom is almost double the size now.
Was putting stuff in my attic an hour ago, asked my daughter to hand me a box up which was clearly too heavy for her. I leaned down to grab it, foot on a stud...my foot slipped and partially went through the ceiling. So I'll be spending New Year's Day fixing that shtein.
