Gordon's still under indefinite suspension because his conditional reinstatement was rescinded when he went back to rehab. He's probably done in the league.

his problem thus far that ive seen is not going thru any progressions probably because hes shook from the pass rush

and ever since that kerrigan sack they have had a te or back either stay in or chip....hard to get in a rhythm doing that

doug needs to step up and handle shtein...time to stop being howie and jeffys peacemaker good guy in the locker room....you also have a complete lunatic coaching the defense who certainly doesnt care about penalties and maybe even encourages them

It would be neat if he would encourage tackling or covering receivers.

Yeah. As bad as the defense looked, you gotta remember they were out there all day because the offense didn't do a farging thing the whole first half of the game. Vaitai the human turnstile was selling tickets to the Eagles backfield. He was "ready" like Eric Rowe was ready to cover Calvin Johnson.

The offense looks like the KC no-receivers offense that Doug was a part of. There's no receivers on the Eagles either so I guess they got the appropriate coach for this team.

The one play that I can't forget soon enough is Cox's penalty on Cousins. Single dumbest thing anyone did all game. I'm celebrating the stop, then I see Cousins picking himself up off the ground and I already know someone farged up and it's coming back.
Title: Re: Week 6 - Washington: The Trail Of Tears

i totally agree in this day and age thats a "you gotta know better" hit but in 15-20 years after a generation of new football players grow up on these rules you wont even see hits like cox's anymore which wasnt remotely bad...the problem is when you are 25 years old and played most of your life one way its hard to change...eventually its going to be like the GRIT going into second base rule in baseball where pass rushers are just going to get out of the way of the qb or at best be taught to just go straight up and try to black the pass

I agree with your bigger point, I don't understand how you can completely avoid hitting someone's head while they are ducking and weaving while you try to tackle them. If you require a leg tackle, injuries will probably go up and Roethlisberger will never be tackled again because you can drive a forklift into his legs without him falling down.

in this day and age it should be pummeled into every player on every front seven in the league to watch the hits on the qb but it should also be situational same as any game plan is...on 3rd down (much less 3rd down and the redzone as this was) you better not farging even breathe on the qb...of course the eagles have a DC who promotes cleeting people when they are on the ground so i doubt he cares much about a late hit on a qb

I am so glad you brought the subject of Ertz up.  I am so sick of the media acting like he's the missing link when he's not available as if he's Gronk or some super Hyper Back.  Well when he plays he's no where to be found.  He wasn't that good in Chip's offenses.  The jury still out on how he'll fit in under this regime but so far thumbs down.

Wide 9 is to help get pressure on the QB but they weren't doing that

So why not go to gap control? If you stop the run and make cousins throw a lot it usually ends with him being stupid with the ball

Oh and let CJ smith get some run next week at corner

I think the hype about the media/fans hyping up Ertz is overblown. I've never seen anyone call Ertz elite. People have just said he's a good solid TE, which he is. He's just been labeled as one of the Eagles' top offensive targets because the WRs suck so bad. If Jackson or Maclin were still here, there wouldn't be nearly as much talk about Ertz. I've never heard him put in any category with the NFL's elite though.

Loss today: when you get dominated on the lines you lose 9 times out of 10 and boy did they get whooped on the lines.

ertz is probably top 10 te in the nfl and arguably better than anyone drafted since he was and that was like four drafts ago...fact is there just arent many great te's in the nfl

he was way under utilized by chip his first two years had a bust out year last year and has only played two games this year

i think he is what he is and thats a very good but not great te

i dont really get the hate either

He's wildly inconsistent.  Whether that's due to personal inconsistencies or play calling/game planning is debatable I guess.  Off the top of my head, the TEs I'd take over him are:

Gronk
Olsen
Reed (if he could stay healthy)
Kelce
Walker
Graham

After that, it gets pretty muddled with Ertz, Rudolph, Fleener, Miller, Bennett, Ebron, Eifert, Thomas trying to fill out the last 4 spots in the top 10.  You can make solid arguments for and against each one probably.  Thing with TE is it's entirely system and personnel dependent.  Eagles TEs were balling the first few weeks because the oline was playing well.  But when they don't play well, like today, the TE has to spend more time in pass protection than he does running routes.

I think you would see him produce more if there were some WR on the roster to stretch the field and open up the middle of the field for Ertz. He's one of the Eagles top targets, and I'd guess on most weeks he's defended as such. And since he's not a superstar like Gronk, he can't be expected to go out and dominate every week. Very few TEs are good enough to do that. I think fans just expect too much of him, because they see the lack of passing weapons and assume it's up to Ertz to go out and dominate, but that's really not who he is.

I don't think Ertz got a lot of hype outside of fantasy football circles, much of which was speculation based on the systems Chip and now Doug would supposedly be running. If I had to rank the things that could be improved about the Eagles, he would be near the bottom. He's fine.

For a while, the knock on him was that he couldn't fully replace Celek because he can't block, but that hasn't been true for a couple of seasons now.

Didn't think he was bad today, he should have hauled in that high TD pass but a lot of his time was spent chipping for Vaitai. No one's going to have a big game when the QB only gets to throw 12 or 13 catchable passes all game.

outside help would certainly assist him but he had a big year last year with the same weapons around...you would think after a bust out year hed get more than two games with a new qb before getting called out or people saying they are done with him....who better are you going to get?...and why would you even try with so many more pressing needs...like three offensive lineman and at least a couple wide receivers...you got a rookie seemingly franchise qb you need to add stuff around him not take away a perfectly fine te

Per Spudz:

QuoteThe front four, so dominating for three games (all wins) and then again in the second half in the comeback effort at Detroit, was silenced by Washington's offensive line on Sunday. The Eagles gave up 230 rushing yards to a team that had averaged 84 yards per game on the ground through five games. Cousins was hardly touched as he threw two touchdown passes. The Eagles didn't come close to getting home with a four-man pass rush against Washington's five-man, and at times six-man, blocking scheme.

What is happening is that offensive lines are doubling Cox and end Brandon Graham, and the rest of line is not making them pay. Bennie Logan made one big play with a tackle for a loss, but then he left the game with a groin injury and did not return. That's concerning. Connor Barwin battled All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams and had four tackles. Barwin has not gotten to the quarterback for a sack since the Cleveland game.

Behind the starters, the Eagles are getting some good push from Beau Allen. Rookie Destiny Vaeao has had some flashes. Vinny Curry has been really quiet and Marcus Smith has made very little impact. Options? Steven Means has been inactive the last two weeks after playing a total of 13 snaps with one tackle in the opening three games.

the running attack of Washington was the last of my concerns going into Sunday.  Was more concerned with the secondary and Kendricks.  Oh, they had their share in this but allowing 230 rushing yards is just shocking.  It was a fitting end as I think Todd pointed out Hicks had a horrible angle on Jones run allowing the huge gain and the first down to seal it for Racists.  He was in position to make the stop but just a bad play that was the icing on the cake of the shtein show they put on yesterday.

Marcus Smith actually contributed to 50% of the scoring, which is really farging depressing.
