I bailed on the Kansas game before the end of the 1st half. I can't remember the last time a top 5 team caught a beat down like that. And Kentucky didn't even look good offensively. Imagine if they actually learn how to play offense.

Nova had as impressive a second half as you'll find tonight against vcu.   Didn't expect that after the Bucknell game.  Their lineup is a bad matchup for VCU's press.

nah they could possibly get upset one game in the tourney. but they won't lose a game in the regular season.

i would't be too surprised if they do run it undefeated though.

I was just about to post this

My sales partner is an Aggie and he texted me that the Cats were -1600 on the ML before the game and -13.5 on the spread. We joked about how the -1600 would be a sure bet and only a Buster Douglas style upset would have to happen to lose that

Whoa Nelly it could happen!

Nova's assist to turnover rate and assist % is insane.

But they don't have an elite player who can pull them through if you disrupt their offensive flow like gtown did.

this Indiana mich state ending is bonkers

mich st up 11 with 300 left
indiana cuts it to one with five second left and mich st at the line
izzo calls timeout and tells his team if both free throws are made then foul
indy misses the second free throw but a mich st player incredibly still purposely fouls indy anyway
yogi ferrell (87%) on the line with 2 seconds left to send it to ot misses the second free throw

I think NCSU/LSU are bigger hurdles than UNI and a mediocre Louisville team.

Have a feeling they're either bounced first weekend or make final four.
Title: Re: College Hoops 2014/15 Edition
Post by: smeags on March 16, 2015, 11:57:42 AM
i agree, if they get beyond the first two games i think they make a big run. have to look at the full bracket to see who could be there in the elite 8 or final four. i believe virginia and duke are on nova's side of the bracket correct ?
Title: Re: College Hoops 2014/15 Edition
Post by: Eagles_Legendz on March 16, 2015, 12:07:16 PM
UVA is Nova's 2 seed.  Nova is a pretty bad matchup for them because UVA runs the pack line D which contests everything in the lane and forces you outside, but that's where Nova lives anyway.

2nd round against two high ceiling 8/9 seeds + a potential mental block regarding recent early exits is what I'd be most worried about.

Lower Seed to watch: Eastern Washington

High seed dissapointment: Kansas, could be done by Sunday.

Good call on both.

I've for three little guys to look out for and one was EW and the other two are Stephen F Austin and Albany.

I think Kansas gets popped early and probably Duke too

Not a fan of Gotlieb but I totally agree with him, that was a foul on that last shot.  Boise St. should have been at the line shooting 3.  With that said what a zesty stretch run by Boise.

Stand corrected, after seeing the replay it was a good call.  Boise St. player played it all wrong.

Dayton 17-0 at home this year.

pretty sure they needed to backstab temple otherwise they would've lost all their recruits. because that's how that works. ucla and usc can't co-exist. neither can unc, duke and nc st. certainly the big 12 wouldnt invite another texas team to join them.

frauds. farg you jay.

local and regional recruiting means something in football...it means absolutely nothing in basketball

so why did texas, t tech, baylor, ou and osu welcome tcu to the big 12 but villanova put up a big stink about temple joining what was left of the big east? as if 2 teams in the same conference in the same city was going to be death of their stupid program. because they are vindictive jealous backstabbing frauds. farg them. farg them to hell.

my point is they would have lost non of their recruits

and there is little to no difference btwn the "big east" and the american

im not even sure why you would want to be in the saem conference as a school you despise so much....its not like there isn't a big 5...they get to play each other every year anyway

at the point of what would have been temple's inclusion in the big east, the conference still had louisville, west virginia, rutgers, pitt and syracuse. all of them were going to leave, sure, but that's hardly the point.

it would be very fun to play them twice a year. it would be good for both schools and big 5 basketball. it would have given temple a few seasons in the big east with cuse, lou, nd, wva...the big tourney at the garden....a little something before it broke up. before their backstab, i never cared for nova, but i didnt despise them. i do now.

its the simple fact that the entire conference wanted temple but nova said no. its insulting. farg them.

lol temple was never getting in a real big east villanova or not

but even if true....you can hate villanova to no end but they cant try and farg with temple?....good for them if that had really happened....suck it

you should actually respect that shtein

the irony here is that temple and villanova are on different levels...not massively but def significant...they shouldn't be your focus...worry about smu or some shtein

actually worry about getting better players and for the love of god get rid of francis s. dunphy who I love but hes a borderline high school coach

temple was getting in if nova allowed it. ive heard it first hand from a providence official. its been reported elsewhere dozens of times. its a simple fact.

i do not respect vindictive jealously.....the big 5 is different. this isnt beltway georgetown/maryland refuse to play each other petty shtein. the big 5 is one of a kind. we're not supposed to do this to each other. temple helped la salle get into the a10 in the 90's. stop.

the schools are on different levels. though im interested to see where nova goes from here now that they are on fs1, which nobody watches. american has better exposure than the big east now. espn will do that.

i love franny, too, but yea. hes a horrid recruiter and meandering gameday coach. but i value things beyond winning and losing in college sports, and dunph is exemplary there, so he can stay as long as he wants.

it is fair to say that the big 5 aint what it was. its 2015. of course its different -- but they are bringing back the DHs next year at the palestra. but it still is something. and the relationship between the schools still is something. nova, like they did in the 80s, disrespected that.

alls i want from temple is to be in the big games. make the ncaas....face nova/the joe/duke/whoever in a big game. win some, lose some. the victory is the event. that's what college sports is all about. pro sports is all about them w's and l's.

i dont care about ncaa rules at all...farg the ncaa. i just care that the coach is a decent human being. and in the case of temple, a philly hoops lifer. dunph passes with flying colors.

to my understanding it will be a DH with 4 of the teams...1 will sit out each year. they used to do a DH, then a nightcap with all 6 teams. it did well but they stopped doing it for some reason. if there's enough interest maybe they will include drexel and add a nightcap (nova/temple?).

Also Purdue has to push that and go for a higher percentage shot not a three ball. Get to the FT line are and shoot an jumper or keep driving

Agreed on the advance rule Havas

its unbelievable how many endings are ruined because a team has to make a full court pass or some ridiculous miracle shot with 1-3 seconds left to win...give them the ability to set up a real basketball play that gives a realistic chance to win

Quote from: PhillyPhreak54 on March 19, 2015, 09:48:31 PM
Also Purdue has to push that and go for a higher percentage shot not a three ball. Get to the FT line are and shoot an jumper or keep driving

he shot it with .9 seconds left and had a good look fromt hat spot....not sure what more he could have done

dunph is a class act. philly guy. well spoken. terrific representative of the program and the school. well liked and respected across the city and the country. charitable. courteous with his time. no ego. he can be temple's coach for as long as he wants as long as he puts a halfway decent product out there.

all i know is that its supposed to be a DH...back to back games. one ticket for 2 games. not sure anything else. i dont remember the last time they did something at the palestra like youre talking about. then again this was my first year back in 5 years.

they have had day night double headers for a while now....this year was the first year in I don't know....ten years that they didn't do it

one ticket two game double headers is what they did when I was growing up....that's farging awesome if they are going back to that...altho the tickets are going to be much harder to get

Didn't realize it was down to .9 I thought it was more

You'd think NCAA would change the rules because you're right the crazy full court passes aren't good for the game. Unless you're Laettner.

Nothing like watching a dude crow hop to make a full court pass like he's throwing in from RF to home plate

i do not respect vindictive jealously.....the big 5 is different. this isnt beltway georgetown/maryland refuse to play each other petty shtein. the big 5 is one of a kind. we're not supposed to do this to each other. temple helped la salle get into the a10 in the 90's. stop.

the schools are on different levels. though im interested to see where nova goes from here now that they are on fs1, which nobody watches.

im not doubting nova didn't want them in but everyone else either didn't care or didn't want them...theres just no way they were ever getting in a real big east nor did they deserve to....maybe in the chaney hey day they could have realistically thought that something like that was going to happen

Big East is positioned infinitely better than the AAC from here on out.  I like Temple but Temple would cut a limb to join the current BE.

I don't know enough about it to say going forward but temple was on tv way more than nova this year to my eyes...that nbcs network is literally the big 5 network minus nova...and as far as the lineup in each conference theres really no difference...in fact the aac might be better

Big East ran laps around AAC this year.  Not even close.

Big East's expsoure on FS1 may have been an issue (though their TV deal is solid and hasn't seemed to impact recruiting in conference), but the teams in the conference by every metric were >>> AAC.  UConn would bail in a second if Big East would take them just for bball.

The problem isn't really the top of the AAC.  The bottom of the conference is horrendous and drags down SOS for the rest.

lol at the big east running laps around anyone...they suck....granted so does the aac...but in the end there isnt a huge difference btwn the two and dont get me wrong there isnt a huge difference btwn any conference outside of the top 3-4

Big East was second best conference in RPI and when you get to advanced metrics like Kenpom.  Conference got 6/10 in the tournament.

I don't agree they suck.  B12 was the best conference this year.  I'd probably say ACC was second because of the strength at the top despite the fact that the bottom was dreg.  After that Big East was better than Big10/Pac12/SEC by any measure you want to use.

cbb sucks which admittedly might make the big east look better....the difference btwn them and the aac is negligible...lol at kenpom

basically the b12 is not running laps around the big east and the big east is not running laps around anyone

J, you're not drunk nor are you having an acid flashback.  Those Oregon/OK State uniforms are messing us up.  Thank God they're not all wearing matching colored shoes.

It's very bright to say the least....makes it hard to watch! I like both colors but not on the court at the same time

true but that didn't prevent them from putting something better late....Carolina arkie into nova state or even gtown Utah would have been so much better

that butler nd crap should be in the early evening mosh pit

i dont know why they did it like that

in the tnt/tbs DHs the better game is both late and early. sometimes the schedule is easy to figure out (kentucky) and sometimes even i cant crack it.

nah i dont see it....nd basketball is nothing.

its possible they want to disperse the better games across the 2 different windows? the ratings are counted as 1 giant cumulative number...the individual game ratings are meaningless....so that might be it.

Teams that can't hit jumpers continue to take bad jump shots - frustrating to watch - whether NCAA or NBA. Drive to the hoop or get yourself open for chrissakes

SDSU and Duke interests me as I think the Aztecs have a good shot to knock off Duke

Northern Iowa and Louisville is one I'm looking forward too as well -- and of course Nova

They should have worked the ball into the paint when NCSU threw it away but nope they jack up a three. If they tie it there a huge momentum swing obviously but these dopes just keep hoisting threes. There was one guy who could hit a three and it was Hilliard so he should be the only one taking a deep shot

And Archidioanco or however it's spelled was missing from two feet away

The foul and timeout fests at the end of college games is just unbearable

Also Michigan st Louisville was not a good game just cause it went to OT....it was a terribly ugly display of ball that happened to take place in a close game

College basketball is generally a bore until March, and everything before the sweet 16 is also a bore. When a game goes down to the wire and it's win or go home it's quality basketball.

Helluva game by Wisky despite being ball sloppy. Kentucky played poorly down the stretch. Clearing out the lane and not working the ball in to KAT and WCS was a mistake.

Now I want Wisky to eat Duke alive

PS - how pissed are TV execs tonight that the ratings bonanza of UK and Duke is donezo?

Wisky went cold as ice and got stupid with the ball. Duke played nice defense but all the dribbling at the top of the key for Wisky was stupid. Get the ball inside.

The guards for Duke were the lifesavers. Wow. As Raftery said "onions!" To hit some of those shots.

And Havas won the farging box. Nice hit!

watching with a bunch of son's friends, all 18 year old range.  Almost on cue they said "How lame is this song?  Are they serious?  Oh my God this is awful" and some other politically incorrect phrases I won't repeat referring to One Shining Moment.  Have to agree.  Sounds like a Disney theme song.  Time for a new schtick CBS.

They were actually down three with 50 seconds left...fouling is ok but you do it right away and extend the game out...what you don't do is foul half way thru the shot clock and do it on their best shooter
