Eagles 35

Uh, no.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/04/08/rookies-in-focus-lane-johnson/

QuoteJohnson was far and away the most productive run blocker among the rookie offensive tackles and his +6.7 grade ranked 11th among all offensive tackles. Perhaps he was helped by Head Coach Chip Kelly's spread scheme that saw the entire Eagles offensive line dominate in the running game, as his grade actually ranked last among Philadelphia's starting five. Regardless, it was an impressive showing for Johnson who showed well whether controlling defensive linemen at the line of scrimmage or sealing defenders at the second level in Kelly's zone scheme.

Always thought Lane's thing was being athletic enough and strong enough to be a good run blocker but needed work with refining pass blocking technique since he hadnt been an olineman for long?

Literally.  Literalllllllllllllllllllllly.

And if you're referring to say, a Champions League Final with Manchester United, hell yes I'd rather see that in person than any random Eagles game.  I've been to a couple hundred Eagles games, but never something like that.

My interest in the NFL and the Eagles specifically is at an all-time low.  I hate watching it because it's boring.  It's littered with moronic penalties.  They can't hit each other anymore.  The defensive backs can't even touch a farging receiver without drawing a flag.  They won't let the players celebrate.  The prices to attend games are disgusting.  Goodell is a piece of shtein.  I hate Lurie and his pink windmill liberal pussified stadium.   But most of all I'm sick of the Eagles just plain sucking.   They never win shtein and they're not going to win anything any time soon with their miserable defense.

In short, I'm more cynical and disinterested in this than I've ever been at any time in my life.

Other than the soccer thing, you feel the same way about the NFL and the Eagles.  You'd be insane if you didn't.

It used to be such a fun thing to watch.  I long for the days of watching the Eagles during the late 80's.  Those guys beat the farg out of other teams and had fun doing it.

no one loves buddy and those uniforms more than me....and i 100% agree with the nostalgia part of it....i feel equally strong about the 80's flyer teams....but players or a uniform color doesnt change how much i watch my football team....in fact i don't even root for the eagles....i root for philadelphia

Clyde Simmons sacking Aikman 4 times when the '91 D had eleven all together. I think every D lineman had one, even Mike Golic. They held that great offense to 90 something overall yards.

Damn I loved that defense. 99 and Gangreen.

Their offensive line was one of the worst units in the history of the team.  They had no running game to speak of in the late 80's either.  They had Randall, who was a human highlight reel, but let's not confuse him with any sort of quarterback either.  He was a freak who was able to run the ball, and he had an absolute cannon of an arm, but he was horrendously inaccurate and he was careless with the ball.

They had a window and an unholy trinity of dickface Braman firing Buddy, Jerome dying, and Bryce farging Paup destroying Randall's knee effectively shut it forever.

Cunningham was so inaccurate that when he was pretty much over the hill he went to Minny and had one of the greatest offensive seasons in the history of the game.

He had two anomalous years, 1990 & 1998:

Also - note the 1998 season.  There's one stat that stands out among all the others.  That would be the number of sacks he had to endure (a measly 20).  Again - the Eagles offensive line was absolutely putrid during his prime.  If he had a great offensive line in Philly he might have put up numbers similar to those in 1998 with Minny.  Too bad we'll never know.

While that is true, he also had two of the greatest receivers ever to play the game. He did have a lot of talent but also a 2 cent head. Whenever you hear the "team of destiny" talk you know it is all over.

What the hell is up with the DBs giving 6 yard cushions when the QB is staring down the WR the whole way - then the DBs stand there like statues instead of breaking on the ball that they knew was coming? Davis better make that halftime adjustment.

Curious that Chip had 3 timeouts left at 50 seconds left in the half and didn't use one to stop the clock after the play. Guess he felt they can line up so fast that it's better to keep the rhythm and the D back on their heels. No other HC would think of doing that.

Kelly is a joke with how he has managed end game scenarios.   2:06 left its going to 2 min warning even with incomplete pass.  Why run?  I don't get it.  He doesn't get how to run offenses up by multiple TDs in 2nd half.  Didn't last year either.

Cox
Kendricks
Curry
Foles
Boykin

The only guy who hasn't made a decent sized impact has been Curry, but he's got some Mamulas this year so far.

Edit: and they were able to turn Bryce Brown in the 7th into a 3rd or 4th round pick

problem is they arent that big of a mismatch when you don't have to respect the outside or for that matter the running game....ertz would be a lot more effective if the eagles could run play action...but you cant run play action when you cant run

I don't disagree with that but I'd rather get Sproles in the slot or Ertz on a safety than cooper anywhere and they've gone away from that.  Sproles has consistently produced this year.  I really don't understand why he's not lined up in the slot more.

ertz isn't jimmy graham...you cant just wish him on a safety and think hes gonna get open or make a play...hes a solid guy but he needs to be freed...he isn't a playmaker....

sproles i agree more with but when you put him in the slot the defense just puts a safety over the top of him cause i mean what else does a safety have to do against the eagles but come up and either double a potential mismatch or stop the run....without pimp theres nothing deep they ever have to worry about

I love how shady plays but Sproles needs more carries right now.  Runs more N/S and takes what he can get.  Mccoy is frustrated and tries to get to many big plays right now and it isn't working.

Foles needs a clean pocket and time for people to get open. He is not going to throw them open which we have talked about. Therefore he needs;

Stout pass protection
Good running game
Innovative coaching and play calling

He's getting none of that.

No excuses. Keys for him to succeed for being what he is

And I agree about Sproles. He hits the hole quick and he's so small that he's about to power through or blow past people.

Teams are content with stacking the box and letting Foles try to beat them. They're still putting up 30 a game but that's not going to last long. He was really good last season at hitting the open receiver and putting the ball in a place where that guy could make a play...this season he's missing the open guy and forcing throws.

Teams are content with stacking the box and letting Foles try to beat them. They're still putting up 30 a game but that's not going to last long. He was really good last season at hitting the open receiver and putting the ball in a place where that guy could make a play...this season he's missing the open guy and forcing throws.

i only watched a portion of the 2nd half, but i think the offense really only put one drive together. well 3, if you count the 2 field goals.

4 tds - 1 defense, 1 special teams, 1 set up by defense, 1 offense

Did you read the article I linked?  Silly question considering who I'm communicating with, I know, but just in the off hand you did, what part did you disagree with?

i dont need to read an article to know what happened....I watched the game....but just for you I read it and it says nothing about lane johnson helping the running game improve....in fact it says nothing about lane johnson doing anything but not farging up...which is what you are looking for in your first game back

i will be watching the all 22 this week tho and will report back

Bill Davis said that a safety (my guess is Nate Allen) broke containment and should have helped Bradley Fletcher on Rams 4th Q TD.

Good point - yeah he must be putrid.

His missed tackle on Gore last week was zesty as hell and he cannot beat Nate Allen out?

Nate Allen was adequate last season, this season he's back to horrid. Offseason wish list: Pass Rusher, Safety. Not much has changed.

lol...pretty much

we wont know before the next draft but hopefully smith pans out as any kind of linebacker inside or out because they need three of them

I'd have been giddy if they reeled him in-- and that's without even knowing Smith would be on the other side of it.
