The Washington taterskins are the central theme of every NFL team message board out there. Here's a message to you all from all ExtremeSkins fans everywhere.

It's time to embrace the reality of it all. Simply, we're better than you.

That's it. Look no further. We are better than you. We're more fun. It feels better to be us. We've got flair. We're audacious, capricious, bodacious, supercalifragilisticxpalidocious.

Are you finally getting it?

Yes, yes, I know cap hell was supposed to be upon us. I know that's what you've been told. I feel for you, I really do. As you come to realize we're better than you, a second bit of stark reality must also penetrate. We're smarter than them.

Repeat after me.

The Washington taterskins are managed, coached and owned by highly professional people who know more about running a football franchise than ALL the unnamed, anonymous sources any reporter has yanked from the broom closet and quoted.

Don't take my word for it. Take the following words for it.

Brandon Lloyd, Antwaan Randle El, Adam Archuleta, Andre Carter, Todd Collins, Christian Fauria.

The question you all should be asking isn't, "How is all this possible?" No. The question should be, "How didn't we know this was all possible?"

Six years of assurances cap hell was on the way and you still allowed yourself to believe the tripe. Perhaps busting the cap hell myth as it relates to the Washington taterskins is just too painful a thing for media and fans of other teams to do.

Like a child coming to the harsh knowledge Santa doesn't exist, the media and opposing teams' fans are struggling desperately to hang on to the fiction that cap hell is on the way for the taterskins despite--literally--YEARS of demonstrated contrary evidence.

Here's the best part.

You don't have to hate us for what we're doing. You can do it, too.

"The thing I want to emphasize is this: We haven't done one thing that anybody else can't do," Joe Gibbs said after the introductory press conference for Andre Carter. "We have certain rules in the league. Here's the cap, here's the numbers, here's what you can spend, so everybody in the league can do what we're doing, it's just that they choose not to, many of them."

Deep down, this is really the issue, isn't it? You can do it too and you know it, but, your team doesn't do it, so, you have a hard choice. Hate your team, or hate us.

Say you're a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. You always have all those many millions available, which somehow never seem to get spent. All week you're hearing how you have LeCharles Bentley locked up as your free agent masterstroke to solidify your offensive line.

You are giddy. You're thrilled. You know this is the guy you need. He fills a need and makes it a strength. You're excited about the prospects of adding such a substantial piece. Then, the Cleveland Browns call, offer a few more bucks to Bentley and Bentley winds up in Cleveland leaving you with nothing more than whimpering excuses that Bentley is from Cleveland and always wanted to play there.

Oh, hush.

Antwaan Randle El is from Chicago. He's always wanted to play there. Yet he's playing in D.C. Adam Archuleta admits he adores Lovie Smith after years playing for him with St. Louis and wanted to play with him in Chicago. Yet he's playing in D.C. Andre Carter just had to meet the Broncos because his father played there 12 years and he envisioned being the second generation of his family with the team. Yet he's playing in D.C.

And it's driving you crazy because you were so excited and thrilled about the prospects of adding a good player your management and owner can't figure out how to land while we get EVERY single player we shoot at.

We get to actually live the thrill and giddiness you only get to brush up against. And it's killing you.

Did we pay a premium for generally young players entering their prime with years left to play in the NFL? You bet we did. Kind of like when the Eagles lock up their own young players for a premium before they really emerge on the scene and everyone calls that genius. Think of it like that, only, with the component of actually being smart because an expensive 24-year-old promising receiver suddenly becomes a very cheap 26-year-old receiver when he grabs 80 balls.

See, we already had good players under contract. Now we have more.

As you struggle to find words to describe the coming cap doom heading our way, try to process one final thought. When you have that free agent you need all lined up and you don't get him, well, isn't that really what cap hell feels like?

It is the media. Instead of actually reporting on facts from named sources we now have anonymous sources driving sensational headlines with the main difference today being the personal nature of the attacks. The current narrative is that RGIII is coordinating a massive media campaign to tell the world how great he is instead of devoting his valuable time to perfecting his footwork. If he had only decided to stay late after practice to become a better player instead of wrestling the mic from his head coach during those league mandated pressers.



You seem like a smart guy chip. Don't you see the absolute insanity of that train of thinking? RGIII is a 23 year old kid right out of college. He grew up is a very regimented home life that stressed accountability and honesty. He has worked very hard to get where he is. He is the American Dream.



But the WaPo, and other B rated sports writers would have you believe that he is a megalomaniac that cares only about his image. For example, the "All In" ad campaign was written by the marketing people from Adidas, a company that he is under contract with. But people use that as proof that he is selfish and not serious about his day job. That is insane.



Another example is the Gatorade documentary. It was actually originally meant to be about Luck and Griffin but the producer of the film felt that RGIII's rehab from offseason knee surgery was more interesting and captivating. They did have a camera crew follow Luck too but I haven't seen the reports describing him as a selfish diva hell bent on destroying the Colts franchise from within. The whole slant is nuts.



I could go on but what is the point? The media has crossed a line in my mind and crucifies whomever they want to in the court of public opinion with facts not in evidence.

"There are Native Americans everywhere that 100% support the name," Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Chairwoman Mary L. Resvaloso told me when I came to visit her tribe. "I believe God has turned this around for something good." She told me that it was far more important for us to focus on the challenges of education in Native American communities. I listened closely, and pledged to her that I would find ways to improve the daily lives of people in her tribe.

What would my resolve to honoring our legacy mean if I myself - as the owner of and a passionate believer in the Washington taterskins - didn't stay true to my word? I wanted and needed to hear firsthand what Native Americans truly thought of our name, our logo, and whether we were, in fact, upholding the principle of respect in regard to the Native American community.

So over the past four months, my staff and I travelled to 26 Tribal reservations across twenty states to listen and learn first-hand about the views, attitudes, and experiences of the Tribes. We were invited into their homes, their Tribal Councils and their communities to learn more about the extraordinary daily challenges in their lives.

"I appreciated your sincerity to learn about our culture and the real-life issues we face on a daily basis," Pueblo of Zuni Governor Arlen Quetawki told us after we toured his reservation. "I look forward to working together with you to improve the lives of Native Americans in any way possible."

The more I heard, the more I've learned, and the more I saw, the more resolved I became about helping to address the challenges that plague the Native American community. In speaking face-to-face with Native American leaders and community members, it's plain to see they need action, not words.

Yes, some tribes are doing well. And in our candid conversations, we learned that we share so much with Indian country. We find their appreciation of history, legacy, caring for their elders and providing a better future for their youth inspirational and admirable.

But the fact is, too many Native American communities face much harsher, much more alarming realities. They have genuine issues they truly are worried about, and our team's name is not one of them. Here are just a few staggering, heartbreaking facts about the challenges facing Native Americans today:

-- The official poverty rate on reservations is 29 percent, as determined by the U.S. Census.
36 percent of families with children are below the poverty line on reservations, compared with
9 percent of families nationally. Jobs are scarce, and so is genuine opportunity.

-- Rampant diabetes, alcohol and drug abuse, violence, and heightened suicide rates afflict Native American youth, adults, and veterans. Life expectancies in high poverty Native American communities are the lowest anywhere in the Western Hemisphere — except for Haiti.

-- Tribal reservations can lack even the most basic infrastructure that most Americans take for granted. For example, according to the independent, highly respected Millennium Project, 13 percent of Native American households have no access to safe water and/or wastewater disposal, compared with just 0.6 percent in non-native households. Similarly, 14 percent of homes on Native American reservations have no electricity, compared to just 1 percent among non-native households. It is hard to build for a better tomorrow without the basic needs of today.

These aren't rare circumstances. These are the unfortunate facts found throughout Indian country today.

I've listened. I've learned. And frankly, its heart wrenching. It's not enough to celebrate the values and heritage of Native Americans. We must do more.

I want to do more. I believe the Washington taterskins community should commit to making a real, lasting, positive impact on Native American quality of life — one tribe and one person at a time. I know we won't be able to fix every problem. But we need to make an impact.

And so I will take action.

As loyal fans of the Washington taterskins, I want you to know that tomorrow I will announce the creation of the Washington taterskins Original Americans Foundation.

The mission of the Original Americans Foundation is to provide meaningful and measurable resources that provide genuine opportunities for Tribal communities. With open arms and determined minds, we will work as partners to begin to tackle the troubling realities facing so many tribes across our country. Our efforts will address the urgent challenges plaguing Indian country based on what Tribal leaders tell us they need most. We may have created this new organization, but the direction of the Foundation is truly theirs.

Our work is already underway, under the leadership of Gary Edwards, a Cherokee and retired Deputy Assistant Director of the United States Secret Service, as well as a founder and chief executive officer of the National Native American Law Enforcement Association.

Because I'm so serious about the importance of this cause, I began our efforts quietly and respectfully, away from the spotlight, to learn and take direction from the Tribal leaders themselves. In addition to travelling and meeting in-person with Tribal communities, we took a survey of tribes across 100 reservations so that we could have an accurate assessment of the most pressing needs in each community.

The stories I heard and the experiences I witnessed were of children without winter coats or athletic shoes; students in makeshift classrooms without adequate school supplies; text books more than decades old; rampant and unnecessary suffering from preventable diseases like diabetes; economic hardship almost everywhere; and in too many places too few of the tools and technology that we all take for granted every day — computers, internet access, even cellphone coverage.

In the heart of America's Indian country, poverty is everywhere. That's not acceptable. We have so much, yet too many Native Americans have so little.

Our work has already begun:

-- As the bitter Arctic winds swept across the Plains this winter, we distributed over 3,000 cold-weather coats to several tribes, as well as shoes to players on boys and girls basketball teams.
"It's been one of the coldest winters on record," Lower Brule Sioux Tribe Vice Chairman Boyd Gourneau told me. "The entire Tribe is so appreciative of the coats we received for our youth and elders. It's been such a great relationship, and we hope it grows."

-- We assisted in the purchase of a new backhoe for the Omaha Tribe in Nebraska. The Tribe will now be able to complete the burial process for their loved ones even in the coldest winter months, as well as assist in water pipe repairs which, without a functioning backhoe, has left the tribe without water -- for days.

These projects were the first of many and we currently have over forty additional projects currently in process. We look forward to telling you more about these as our work proceeds.

For too long, the struggles of Native Americans have been ignored, unnoticed and unresolved. As a team, we have honored them through our words and on the field, but now we will honor them through our actions. We commit to the tribes that we stand together with you, to help you build a brighter future for your communities.

The Washington taterskins Original Americans Foundation will serve as a living, breathing legacy - and an ongoing reminder - of the heritage and tradition that is the Washington taterskins. I'm glad to be able to launch this vital initiative today.

P.S. Throughout this journey, there have been many incredible moments. One of my favorite fan moments took place in Gallup, NM - to the cheers of dozens of Washington taterskins fans. As Pueblo of Zuni Governor Arlen Quetawki noted, "We even had an unprompted welcoming party of Washington taterskins fans from Zuni and Navajo greet you when you departed from the airport!" The University of Minnesota is taking steps to keep the Washington taterskins name off "promotional and game date materials" when the team visits Minneapolis in November.

According to the Washington Post, Eric Kaler, the university's president, told Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) in a letter that the school is working with the Minnesota Vikings on the matter.

The taterskins will play the Vikings on Nov. 2 at TCF Bank Stadium on the university's Minneapolis campus. (The Vikings will play at the outdoor facility for the next two seasons while its new stadium is being built.)

McCollum sent a letter in June to Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, urging the team to take a stand against what she described as "clearly an offensive racial slur."

The Democratic lawmaker contended that the "presence of the Washington franchise and their racist name on the University of Minnesota campus would be in violation of the Board of Regents' Equity, Diversity, Equal Opportunity, and Affirmative Action Policy."

"Mr. Wilf, I believe you are a man of integrity," she wrote. "Therefore I am calling upon you to publically (sic) demonstrate leadership on behalf of your organization and the people of Minnesota by adding your voice to the millions of Americans who are calling for this racist mascot to be changed and for Native Americans to be treated with respect and dignity by the NFL."

In his response to McCollum, Kaler said that the university is "working with the Vikings to make every effort to eliminate the use of Washington's team name" when the two teams play.

The university's action is the latest in a growing number of protests against Washington's racially charged name, but it's still unclear what the home team will do.

Lester Bagley, the Vikings' executive vice president of public affairs, told WaPo on Wednesday that the team takes "the issue very seriously" but is still determining how it will respond.

Tony Wyllie, a spokesperson for the taterskins, told WaPo that the team disagrees with the university's effort.

"Because you have to play from the pocket, you have to play smart," Jaworski added. "Bill Walsh said it best: You have to process information quickly, and that's really what the position is about.



"You know, every year there's hundreds of guys coming out that can throw the football. But the great ones can process information, throw it accurately, and with pinpoint accuracy, and velocity when necessary."



RGIII's struggles have been an ongoing topic of discussion on the Around The NFL Podcast. Whereas the offseason was filled with the promise of a return to 2012 form, the harsh reality is that Griffin is the rare franchise quarterback currently being outplayed by his backup.

Quick observations:



-Maclin didn't catch that ball in the fourth quarter. He had one foot in and his knee and elbow went out of bounds. Even the fecal fans were surprised the referees didn't overturn it.



EDIT: After reading the referee thread, it turns out the refs got this one right. I guess me and the other guys in my section don't know as much about football as we thought.

The nasty woman next to me was hammered, I thought she was going to undress and give me a lap dance. Later she started fighting with another Eagles fan about something stupid. We had no ushers or security, so we let them sort it out on their own.



Eagles fans have a mob mentality, they only attack in groups and rarely one on one. My favorite was the group of rich boys in the Mercedes driving by me and calling me a gay slur as I walked towards the SEPTA. Wow, we gotta bunch a bad asses right there, can't say it to my face but will yell out obscenities then hit the gas.



While on the SEPTA I did meet one really awesome Eagles fan. He apologized for the boorish behavior and said he's sometimes embarrassed to be a fan of the team. We talked all the way to the convention center stop, he had a lot of nice things to say about the taterskins.



I thought the taterskins played a good game today. They out gained the Eagles by 180 yards and Kirk made some great plays. The special teams fail (10 point swing) was what did it in for us. We should have walked all over those bammas.

George Washington University law professor John Banzhaf argued in the petition that the term constitutes a "racist, racially derogatory word."  A decision that the term is indecent would block over-the-air networks (CBS, FOX, CBS, and ABC) from using the term.  The word could still be used in cable broadcasts.

But it wouldn't matter.  A ruling from the FCC that the term is indecent would force the NFL to change the name.

To be clear, acknowledgment that the issue will be addressed doesn't mean that the FCC will decide to characterize the term as indecent.  But it may, and that would be far more significant than today's ruling that the little-used blackout rule no longer can be enforced by the NFL against the networks.

That being said, if Washington is already so sure that Griffin's not worth holding on to, why would it be concerned about dealing Griffin to a rival? If anything, if it's that sure he's going to fail wherever he goes, why wouldn't it be aggressive about dealing him to Philadelphia in the hopes he'll blow up their locker room? This would be the most fun destination for Griffin.

The Rams have built a deep roster with talent up and down the lineup, but they've never taken a risk on a player like Griffin, who might dramatically improve their fortunes. I wouldn't make the move if they intend to hold on to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, but if the Rams found a more imaginative replacement and moved on from Bradford, Griffin would be a logical fit.

In all, I strongly doubt that Griffin will remain on the Washington roster in 2015. There's just not enough to be gained by having him around, especially with all the public posturing from Gruden suggesting that he wants to move on and go after the quarterback of his choosing. If Washington fires Gruden and hires somebody like Briles or Harbaugh, it would make sense for Griffin to stay. Otherwise, a trade makes the most sense, and these are the 10 teams that most obviously fit a Griffin deal.
