5 year deal
Are the last 4 voidable or something? Seems like a long deal for a guy that'll be a backup the rest of his time here
i don't think there is any guarantee that Peters comes back and is effective
O-line is set baby!!

length of contract is pretty meaningless in the nfl...its all about the guaranteed money and how the contract is written

Not only that but Peters will be 31 when the 2013 season starts. Over 30 recovering from a torn achilles might not be a good match. Bell at the very least provides a safety net at Tackle, presently they have nobody who would be considered an every day starter. I'm surprised by the 5 year deal but they have the cap space and did what was necessary to fill a huge hole.
yeah, they had minimal negotiating leverage here. He says what he wants and if anybody else is interested they don't' have much choice.
I know less than nothing about this guy but I'm a miserable shtein by nature so I'm very angry at the signing. VERY angry.
Solid signing.

i disagree....the guy is coming off injury not that good to begin with and because of this as a LT which is arguably the most important position on the field other than QB was still on the market
were the eagles in a powerful position certainly not...but people werent exactly knocking this guys door down and i dont think the eagles particularly cared that much if they didnt get him...after all they let him initially walk out of novacare last week without a deal
dont pay attention to the five years...it has nothing to do with him possibly being jp's replacement or means they eagles paid a lot...if anything the eagles proposed that to spread out whatever SB money bell got
damn, i knew he was Karl Malone's kid but i didn't realize that The Mailman knocked up Bell's mom when she was 13. wtf
I'm just hoping he can pick up on the complex false start scheme.
lol
McManus is reporting 5/$35M
whats the guaranteed money?
nm
Guaranteed money is a big question and might determine if Peters is gone. He'll be making $10.5mm next year with zero cap hit if traded and an injury that could take 2 years to come back from 100%, if he ever does (and assuming Bell plays well). I think they likely structured Bell so they could get rid of him after a year or two without a lot of cap hit.
Way to go out on a limb there.
ha
ha
Jessica Alba got a tattoo.
And it looks awful.

whats the guaranteed money?
That's the money he'll be paid regardless of how long he remains with the team.
McLane says that only this season is guaranteed money.
This reminds me of the Ryan Harris signing young guy with a lot of potential but can't stay healthy. Hopefully it works out better.
Instead of Demetress he should just change his name to Dematress, cause everyone was sleeping on him.

i was convinced this guy's name was spelled wrong in the thread title but i was wrong. everything about this guy is pretty retarded.
QuoteDemetress Bell joined Michael Barkann and Ike Reese on WIP in Philadelphia to discuss the process that led him to Philadelphia, whether the Eagles were his No. 1 option, what sold him on the Philly, his lack of football experience, his versatility as an offensive lineman and his relationship with Jason Peters.
On why he left Philly last week without signing:
"Well, coming into the visit or whatever, I just told every team that I visited before I make a decision I gotta go home and talk with my mom and grandma. And I won't have a decision until that time. And Philly was patient enough to let me go home, and I thank them for that."
On if Philadelphia was his No. 1 option:
"No, they wasn't my No. 1 option. Philly came into the picture after I had visited Arizona, Washington and Pittsburgh, so Philly was my - that was last on the list as far as visiting. But after I met the coaches and stuff I was happy with my visit."
On if Philadelphia still wasn't his No. 1 option after his visit:
"No, not at all. I had to get home, clear my head and get with my mom and get with my family, and just sit around and talk about all the options that I had."
On what, besides the money, sold him on the Eagles:
"When I first got here, like I said, I sat down with the coaches and I was happy. Like, I didn't even have a question for nobody. They covered every aspect of it and they told me how it was. Being straight up with me, I think that means a lot."
On not playing high school football:
"Our high school was too small. I think we might have had 300 people pre-K through 12, so we didn't have enough guys to have a football team, and I didn't play football until my last two years of college. So yeah, this is probably my fifth year, sixth year of football ever. So I'm still learning, I'm still on the cusp of learning."
On if he can play elsewhere on the line:
"I'm athletic so I'm sure I could play guard or tackle either side."
On if he's been in contact with the man he's replacing - and his former mentor in Buffalo - Jason Peters:
"Yeah, I talked to Jason before I came on the visit, during the visit, after the visit, two or three times yesterday, talked to him this morning. So me and Jason got a real close relationship."
lol at Matty's assessment...pretty spot on. :-D
He's on the cusp of learning. I didn't even know that was possible.
What's his wonderlic score?!
im sure i heard that interview on wip yesterday

I doubt your sincerity?
QuoteEagles General Manager Howie Roseman told the Philadelphia Daily News that Bell was the free agent they most coveted even before they found out they had likely lost Peters for the entire 2012 season.
"[E]very day, I go over our draft board and our free-agent board. For us, at the top of our free-agent board, is Bell," Roseman said. "This is before we know anything about the injury."
Roseman said the Eagles tried to sign Bell early in free agency, but that Bell's agent told Roseman the Eagles were a bad fit because Bell wanted to be a starter and the Eagles didn't have a place for him in the starting lineup.
lol....they try way to hard to make people happy....but really no one cares
where's that from? who bought that bullshtein

Exactly
and I'm sure there was interest as a backup because they needed depth but they probably tried to jew him with an offer and he laughed at them. Once Peters went down they had no choice because they needed somebody other than King Dunlap.
Howie is the worst.
the irony here is that they deserve more credit for being reactionary in such a strong way that after the inury they were able to knock out a deal with bell than they would for targeting a run of the mill guy as your number one player in FA
I find it incredible that with guys like Mario Williams on the market, Demetress Bell is their Prince Charming.
Actually, no I don't. It's par for the course for these dipshteins.
I think they've actually done a fairly good job last year and this off season as far as signings.
For all the bashing the FO gets, how they've managed the cap is the envy of many teams and fan bases, and we're just too jaded from not winning a championship to see it. It's the drafting side that's killing them.
Every time I see this thread I think 'what a fargin' stupid name.'
Every time I see this thread I think 'I wonder how much money they stuffed in Demetress.'
Holy shtein. Ha!

how is their cap management better or wrose than any other team?....what teams wish they were like the eagles...and not in terms of wins and losses...teams like buffalo and the skins wish they were them...but in terms of cap management what teams wish they were the eagles
ha--jaded. who cares about managing the friggin cap? i cant think of a more meaningless thing to care about when it comes to the eagles.
Houston, for one.
And Oakland. Basically, 2 of the most irrelevant teams over the last 10 years. Be proud.
I'm sure Jerruh likes getting spanked by the league for his contract to Miles Austin. Oakland is a good call but they still have work to do if they hope to wrestle the cap management brilliancy prize from Washington and their $41 million guaranteed for Albert Haynesworth. Or perhaps that was part of a bigger plan we just don't see yet, but IGY and ExtremeSkin Art have the trained eyes to see?
I am pretty sure it is recognized across the league the Eagles do one of the best jobs managing the cap.
As far as the drafting is concerned it is drafting defense that has been the problem. On offense I count 8 starters that they have drafted and I am including Avant.
so "many" teams envy the eagles because two teams got banged by goodell for not listening to him?....that doesnt make much sense
plus i have never seen the salary cap stop the skins from getting a player they wanted...i think you may be confusing salary cap and player personnel....either way i dont think any teams envy the eagles but theres a big difference btwn being smart with money and being smart with who you sign or draft with that money...in other words any perceived advantage you think the eagles have with the salary cap certainly isnt getting them anywhere
the difference btwn the skins and eagles is the skins having attempted to buildthru trading all their draft picks and making dumb free agency signings...not the amount of money they have under the cap
same with the cowboys...they dont have an issue with the salary cap...where they have mostly failed is thru the draft because their owner is the gm
even with that since 2005 the cowboys have more regular season wins than the eagles...yes the eagles have a couple more playoff wins but i hardly think that makes dallas much less many teams envious of them
the eagles have a good franchise...they could be a lot worse they could be a lot better...but no one wishes they were them
they are the mother farging gold standard
everyone wishes they were them
For making money, yeah. For winning, not so much.
Demetress Bell has been cut. I sure hope Peters is recovered for next year.

Jason Peters on a semi-healed Achilles TODAY in February >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bell on his absolute best day.
Saw a comment somewhere on the interweb about this that was something like "Good riddance. Philly only has enough room for 1 Bell that doesn't work right."
I chuckled.
Can't really blame the FO for this guy as he was basically the biggest free agent tackle last year, but goddamn was he terrible.
