Title: Week 5: The Birds face the winless Niners in PRIME TIME
Post by: PoopyfaceMcGee on October 06, 2010, 01:33:27 PM
Feel the excrement!

Anyone know the line yet?  Wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Vick-less and possibly Shady-less Eagles as dogs.

To me this is a game the Eagles should win.  SF has to be deflated after last weeks loss.  Plus for all the hype he gets Singletary just isn't a good HC.

how awful is it that sf has had two home primetime games in the first month of the season

anyway i feel the exact opposite of dm....i think precisely because sf hasnt won yet they are going to win this game

they should have beaten the saints at home in primetime....they WILL beat the eagles

Bold statement to make before playing an 0-4 team.  BOLD.

But I agree with IGY... It is a game that the Eagles absolutely SHOULD win but probably won't.  And really, now that Vick is likely out for at least a few weeks and Kolb is either still learning or simply isn't that good, this team is not very good.  Might as well lose ugly to a winless team to get one step closer to a regime change.

Yeah, I would feel better had SF beaten NO or ATL. But they are coming in at 0-4 and likely will win.

And their defense is pretty damn stout.

Aubrayo Franklin against Mikey McGlynn = lol
Patrick Willis against any Eagles OL = lol

This is it for the Niners.  They go 0-5 and it's over for them, even in that weak division.  Desperation game which is frightening.  With the exception of week 1 at Seattle they have been in every game to the end.

WHERE IS TRUCK RATHMAN?

im not even sure why the eagles should win

hideous offensive line
no qb
no rb
beaten up
travelling cross country
primetime

they could win of course but no way they SHOULD win....even fully healthy they are nearly good enough to ever say that....short of maybe playing buffalo at home

Huh? That is exactly why i am saying it this team is 0-4 coming off some really bad losses.  They lost two heart breakers and were blown out by two very mediocre teams.  Well maybe KC isn't mediocre.

I get what you are saying IGY but Singletary really seems to be losing his team.

I don't like facing winless teams, especially ones that have some talent. That tells me that they are more likely to win the weekend. Which is no good for us, as fans of the American football team from Philadelphia.

I still think the Niners win the West, and there is no way the Eagles 'should' win this game.  Healthy Vick and McCoy and they're probably favored.  Kolb with a greater than 50% chance of Mike Bell on primetime= not so much.

Luckily your front 7 won't come into play this game. Beating the Eagles offense is simple, just stay in nickel or have your LBs drop into coverage. This is especially true with a guy that runs as poorly as Kolb. The skins barely blitzed and I don't blame them, there's no reason to.

Definitely not since the Phils play same day.  If Vick were playing I'd care a little bit because he really is fun to watch.  Playoffs trump regular season regardless of the sport.  Eagles could be 4-0 and just crushing opponents ala 2004 and I'd still be more concerned with the Phils.

The Union, Soul, Kixx, Wings, whoever can play all the playoff games they want, they'll never be more important than a regular season baseball, basketball or football game for me.  Hell, they all rank below the Flyers on my scale.

Speaking of Flyers, playoff hockey is def behind regular season baseball for me too.

Yeah, shouldn't say I don't care about the Eagles game but I'm about as close to not caring as I could possibly be.  Between awful play, my hatred for the head coach along with the success the Phils are having, the Eagles are defnitely on the back burner come Sunday.

Win and i watch the game. lose i erase it and then come here to read what the rest of us losers have to say.

only variable is if cobbsy decides to have a career game and lights up the team. tragically though, they're just one pop to the glass jaw away from kafka time

Singletary is definitely one coach I would take Reid over every time.

Singletary might be worse than Reid when it comes to management of timeouts and the clock.  He has done all of nothing since becoming HC.

what about amusing sound bites, unfulfilled guarantees, angry interviews and pants dropping?

65% of the bets laid down are on the 49ers at -3.5

And yes I care about this game. We only get 16 of them a year.

ya but its truly fail after being cock-teased all offseason.....FOR WHO? FOR WHAT?

Truck, always a pleasure man.  Does the niner fan base blame this more on Singletary or Alex Smith?  If the new offensive coordinator doesn't run the ball 40+ times he needs to be committed.  Gore was having his way with the birds last year when they played.

well, after the saints game, everyone was all over smiths nuts. then, after kc and atl....the relentless OG smith hater squad mounted a solid comeback. with that said, the majority of fans have turned on singletary more than smith for multiple and obvious reasons....id say an easy 70-80% want him gone....our new OC is limited by MS's 1985 offensive philosophy....hes got his hands tied. hes simply not allowed to open up the O...its sad

Cowherd has a saying or cliche that he drops on his show every now and then that is the absolute truth:

"If you're not going to be good, then be interesting."

Bad team + Andy Reid pressers = Boring an unwatchable.

Bad team + Singletary post game tirade and/or indecent exposure = interesting.

I would rather suffer though 60 minutes of bad football and watch and animated coach post game.  Instead, Reid gives pretty much the same scripted dribble week in and week out.  It was tolerable when the Eagles were good.  If you're good, you have room to be boring.

As it stands right now, the only interesting part of this team is sidelined for a week or 2 with cracked rib cartilage.  Hopefully he'll be back in time for Nashville.

iirc, and i sure could be wrong...but the impression i got from u guys at the time we signed him was of relief...the root of it being bad coverage like u mentioned....i thought he brought us much needed leadership in the secondary and a solid hitter against the run.

i personally love the guy...intelligent, physical and a true leader....but too slow in coverage...our D gets too much credit considering how slow our secondary is...

what pisses me off is he's seen the writing on the wall in respect to a) the drafting of taylor mays and more importantly b) agreeing to a multi-million dollar pay cut during pre-season....then he picks up his toys and leaves the sandbox in a huff cuz we want him to mentor mays while gradually reducing his starting snaps....im thinking....what? r u really this stupid? 1.7 mill to NOT get more concussions? 1.7 mill to pretty much coach a newbie while u drink gatorade and slap buttoxeseses and say positive "go team" ra ra crap on the sidelines every week?

c) has anyone signed him?

For which team?

Why didn't they just take a knee after the kickoff and head into halftime?

The play Kolb was sacked on.  Literally no one was in the screen with an Eagles player 20 yards downfield waving his hand.  I think it was Jackson but I'm not sure.  Most open I've seen anyone this year and I'm not exaggerating.

Might be time to think about sliding Manneans out to LT and putting Wells in there.

Kolb played well that half.  I think he needs to work a little on getting the ball out when the pocket collapses instead of taking the sack, but man the line is zesty.

Oh and I thought Shady would be mediocre, especially after last year.  I was way wrong.

They dodged a bullet at the end of the half there. If they're going to run plays throw the ball down the field or keep it on the ground and kill the clock. Finally a kicker misses a kick against the Eagles. Amazing.

I was wrong on Shady too. I wasn't sold on him taking that next step to legit starter from where he was last year. I think him bulking up helped. And I don't see him slinging the ball around like LJ Smith this year either.

Time to throw Herremans at LT and put Wells at his natural LG spot. But of course Reid will ignore all that and leave Dunlap out there to rot.

Like I said, it's not like he was "open" in that there was a DB trailing him--they zoomed out on the replay and there was no one in the entire screen with him.

i didn't say it was a good play call.. eldra buckley serves no purpose.  the defense hopes he gets the ball.  they certainly don't have to key on him and if he does get the ball they can just react and down him like they did.

Everyone stands around waiting for someone else to make the tackle and they don't attack the ball carrier allowing him to run wherever he wants. Other teams kick coverage actually runs down and tries to blast the ball carrier. The Eagles just stand around watching him run all over the field not even trying to stop the guy.

Kolb looked sharp. I think he was 9 for 9 at one point? Made a lot of good throws, didn't look scared and have the happy feet as much tonight. Also had a lot more zip on his throws. Loved seeing him take shots down the field.

I still want Vick in there simply because he's more exciting to watch and the Eagles aint winning shtein...but meh. Kolb's only two good games have come against zesty defenses, so I guess leave him out there to play against a better D and see how he does.

The lack of protection he received later in the game made it all but impossible for him to conduct the passing game with any sort of efficiency.  Still, the kid hung in there and busted his ass despite the fact his coach is a rotund pile of retardation and that counts for something.

I didn't see much of the game.  Got it on dvr but, I can't believe I'm saying this, I really didn't care.  I should have been pumped for this game as Hawaii is big time niner country and the shtein should have been flyin but most niner fans I know are in shock after being 0-4 in the NFC West JV.

It seemed every time I stopped to watch the game between innings of the phils game a ball was bouncing off Celek.  Was he a little woozy?  He had those two huge plays but he should have owned that old slow bastich Spikes.

AR gets dumber by the week.  i applaud Collinsworth for calling out these dip shteins tonight.

Title: Re: Week 5: The Birds face the winless Niners in PRIME TIME

I thought Kolb did well, especially considering he was sacked 4 times and knocked down 3 times. But, I wonder why he just can't seem to get the ball too Pimp.

Still, not getting excited about a win over a winless Niners team, especially after seeing how they pretty much walked down the field late in the game. It was only a big time screwup by Smith on the fumble that allowed the Eagles to win this game. The way he came back on his next possesion makes me think if not for that brain fart, the Eagles might not have been in the game in the 4th.

If you look at the stats and not the score, you'd think the Niners did win. The Niners converted 21 first downs to the Eagles 17, and the Niners were 8 for 13 in third down conversions, the Eagles a paltry 3 for 12. Those two int's killed them, and it's not a good thing to see the Eagles barely squeak by this Niners team.

How bout Antonio Dixon trying to cover Gore 20 yards downfield. McDermott isn't ready, he's not Harbaugh or Spagnoalo. I wouldn't mind seeing Jauron get a crack at the D. The defensive calls aren't even close.

In fairness to Bradley he is coming off an ACL injury that usually takes two seasons to come back from.  The defense played better but they really suck at coming up with stops when they need them.

And while this team isn't all that great right now they are 3-2 and not one team in the NFL looks unbeatable right now.  And this team always plays better in the second half of the season under Reid.

Was mostly watching the Phils but would bounce over to the birds game every now and then.  Kolb looks much better when he takes 1st team snaps all week.  Shady looked good all the way until that hoyda slide 2 yards short of the 1st.  I know his ribs are farged up but that was dumb.  Didn't like seeing Westbrook in a Niners jersey.  Who else thought the refs were going to call roughing the passer on the final int?  I know I farging did.  Forgettable win.

Yes, enjoy your bonus points, IGY.

Also, Shady's biggest mistake of the game was yet another fumble.  wost manneans saved his ass there.  The slide before the first was a mistake but at least he's trying to play smart

McCoy is currently 11th in the NFL for rushing yards, with about seven to ten less attempts per game less than everyone else. He's improving, and the team is going nowhere this season. I'll take a boneheaded play or two from him now, as long as he's learning what not to do.

I think it's neat that in both the Lions and Niners games this defense let a subpar offense storm back to within a FG and march down the field for the potential tie/win at the end of the game. Things like that make me happy.

Who's due for the next injury? Jackson's limping hardly counts, so I would guess the receivers are up.

Kafka.  1 whole game of eldra buckley at qb wildcat.  They gotta mix it up anyway to try and beat the phils in the ratings.

al michaels made a comment about andy being more involved with the defense than ever before, even suggested he's making some calls.  did anybody else catch that?

Yep.

It was right after the camera showed him sending in some sort of signal in.

Andy's so good at calling offensive plays that I'm totally comfortable with him calling the defense as well.

I don't think it could hurt if he managed St's, at least kick coverage anyway.

That was weird.  What was with that whole scene on the sideline with Singletary and Smith?  Singletary has clearly lost this team.

simpletary was showing the national audience whos the next guy to be samarai'd under his bus of fail...

ive heard about this all-pro but like a fargin yeti i need proof

anyways, another debacle for us...i re-watched the game and besides that embarrassing fumble, smith did well. alot of 3d conversions and spread the ball out. that last game killing int was on our rookie hog davis..smith had already committed b4 davis got beat and his man got a hand on the ball

our hc is in way over his head...cant believe some of u guys would replace him over reid...if anyone needed to get chewed out it would have been frank gore for his 2 fumbles, pick a name on the o-line and manusky our Dcoordinator for failing to adjust to your O isolating p willis...

on top of that, he of all people should know that A.Smith in the redzone this year is 17 for 21, 100 yards, 81% comp% with 6 tds, ZERO ints and a 126.1 qb rating....but he doesnt and were farged
