Stacy Andrews to the Eagles

A league source tells PFT that tackle Stacy Andrews has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Per the source, it's a multi-year deal averaging $7 million per season.
At this point, the structure of the contract isn't known as it relates to guaranteed money. Andrews suffered a torn ACL late in the 2008 season, and it might have prompted the Eagles to defer any large payments until March 2010, after Andrews proves that he is 100 percent.
The deal hinges on Andrews passing a physical.
For the Eagles, it was important to address quickly the tackle position, since both starters from last season, Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, are unrestricted free agents.

BOOM!
love it
nice. maybe shawn will cry less now that his brother is around.
i have a feeling this andrews bros. thing isnt a good idea
nice
good news indeed, let's hope that knee is heals up well
if it doesnt he can get a transplant from his brother who probably wont need his and would be a perfect match
Good shtein.
You have a guy that is just coming off a major ACL and MCL tear on Jan of this year protecting McNabb
whats there to be excited about except the fact the Andrews brothers can hold hands on the line?
This does not thrill me--it makes me nervous until he proves otherwise
Well, shtein. I thought for sure there'd be one shorter tackle this year.
It's a good signing if healthy and as discussed, frees up their options for the draft.

youre not excited about the potential to get a dominant tackle?
dook is a stud still young and was just coming into his own as a premier tackle which as we all know is a monster need for the team...even if he never plays another game again it was worth the chance and is exciting

Add to that the potentially positive impact it could have on his whackjob brother Shawn and this could be a huge move. Still need to know what's going on at LT, but this is a good start.
Maybe he'll call his brother a bitch and make him into a man
i like this move. anything to motivate the big kid some more
gotta find a lefty qb since the strength of the line is on the right side to protect his blind side.
trading for leinart would be the obvious move.
After playing for the Bengals offense for years you know he'll be used to dropping back and playing patticake with DEs.

He has alot to prove he can move around the edge like he did pre-injury. You dont give away "premiere" tackles if the player is still that good

I have no clue who this is. All I can assume is that he is black. Because its mostly black men that sport the name Stacey. Unless his name is Sandy. Then he would be Mexican. Like this person I called yesterday. I asked for Sandy and he gave me attitude and said, "I AM SANDY". I was expecting a girl. Like I was supposed to know. farg him.

you cant voice concerns about his injury and then say the bengals gave him away
they didnt give him away...hes coming off a ripped up knee and the eagles paid good money for him...and a knee injury for a lineman has very little impact for how well they can move...wear and tear and weight being put on it yes but its not like hes a running back who has to cut on a dime and shtein...and like i said even if he never plays again it was well worth the risk

Anyone who expects otherwise, is fooling myself.
The knee thing is a concern because of his size, and the fact that he suffered it at the end of the season. He's not worth $7 million per but he's got stud Tackle potential so he's worth the risk.
Here's an article a few weeks ago, I'm sure there's some bs to this since he's an F/A but it sounds encouraging:

QuoteAndrews proving a fast healer
NFL insider
By Joe Reedy • jreedy@enquirer.com • February 15, 2009
When offensive tackle Stacy Andrews had surgery on his right knee on Jan. 7, the original timetable was that he wouldn't be ready until training camp.
More than a month into his rehab, he said he could be on the field during minicamp in June.
"The rehab is going great and I'm way ahead of schedule. My goal is to be practicing during minicamp," said Andrews while taking a break at Paul Brown Stadium. "It was frustrating a little bit due to the fact that it was five quarters away from the end of the season. As soon as it happened, though, it flashed through my mind that everything happens for a reason. I kept a positive head about it and haven't been down since."
Andrews was injured late in the Bengals' 17-0 win at Cleveland on Dec. 22. While the original prognosis the day after was a torn ACL and other ligaments, the surgery by team doctor Angelo Colosimo showed that there was no other ligament damage other than the ACL.
The other fortunate thing about Andrews' injury is that it happened to his right knee. On the line, tackles use their left leg as the plant leg on blocking, which bears the most weight.
Andrews and his agent Rich Moran chose Colosimo for the surgery after he was recommended by physicians from two other NFL teams. Since the surgery, Andrews has been with Bengals Director of Rehabilitation Nick Cosgray.
Before beginning his rehab, Andrews received a call from quarterback Carson Palmer, who said to do everything that Cosgray said.
"That was big when he gave me a call. Carson said that there were going to be hard days, but to concentrate on everything including the small things," Andrews said.
It has been that focus and attention that has allowed Andrews to make great progress. He has been off crutches since last Monday and started lifting weights almost two weeks ago.
With Andrews making progress, the bigger question now is whether or not he will be back with the Bengals. The team and Moran have been negotiating the last three weeks and Andrews is hopeful that they can agree to a multi-year contract by the time free agency begins on Feb. 27.
Said Moran: "The interest level by both teams has been very encouraging, in particular since he has progressed in his rehab. However, we're both cognizant that we haven't got a deal done since 2006. The injury doesn't make it any easier to identify a deal that both parties feel comfortable with."
After both sides were unable to come to a deal in 2006, in which he saw action in all 16 games, Andrews was a restricted free agent in 2007. It was during that season that he began to emerge with 14 starts, first at right guard and then taking over for the injured Willie Anderson at right tackle. After the sides again couldn't agree to a deal, the Bengals placed the franchise tag on Andrews.
Last season, Andrews started every game at right tackle until the injury, which happened in the next to last game.
In the process Andrews has proved his doubters wrong, first about his ability to be a quality lineman in the NFL and then about whether he could be a starter. A former track star, Andrews was drafted in the fourth round by the Bengals in 2004 after seeing action in only five games as a senior at Ole Miss.
"I see myself no longer as a question mark but as an exclamation point. I've wiped out those questions and doubts about me over the past couple seasons," Andrews said. "I would love to be back here. That's my priority right now. Hopefully we can get everything dialed in and get something done."
With the Bengals medical and training staff at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week, Andrews will continue his rehab with Bob Mangine at the University of Cincinnati.
Another underlying factor in the move is that if the Bengals and Moran were somehow unable to agree to a new contract by Feb. 27, Andrews would have to move his rehab since he would be unsigned.
AROUND THE NORTH: Browns coach Eric Mangini, who was one of the first new coaches hired this offseason, still has not named assistants for wide receivers, running backs and linebackers. ... The Steelers have five offensive linemen who can become free agents. Tackles Max Starks, Marvel Smith and Trai Essex and guard Chris Kemoeatu are unrestricted while tackle Willie Colon is restricted.

Ill disagree with you on this till the cows come home but Im really not in the mood but
I will say that your statement could hold some validity for the guard position, but when youre dealing with the MCL/ACL (torn not sprained) moving laterally is way too important and the last time I checked its one of the biggest attributes for a OT--esp at 340+lbs

just because you need more lateral movement at OT than OG doesnt mean its ultra important
moving laterally for an OT is infintiely less important than for a RB WR S CB TE LB and guys at those positions all have come back from worse injuries than andrews has....reinjuring the knee is a concern...losing his lateral movement because of this injury is not...when he rehabs and is healthy again its a non issue

Starting RT. Ok.
Bottom line is that this team was looking at the loss of both tackles. They filled the biggest hole, Runyan's, and now can resign Tra, draft a tackle, resign Runyan or a combo of all three.
He may not be Jonathon Odgen, but Tackles are goddamn expensive. They have money and they took care of a serious need in a respectable way.
Shawn Andrews was just on Eagles Live, he sounds like he's taking his meds. Mentioned possibly playing LT.
That's an interesting wrinkle, I guess. I don't care where these guys play on the line as long as they can get the pieces to fit.

QuoteThe older brother of right guard Shawn Andrews, Stacy (6-7, 342) now joins Shawn to become just the third set of brothers since 1951 to play together on the same offensive line, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The others are Jay and Joel Hilgenberg (New Orleans Saints, 1993), and Dave and Doug Widell (Denver Broncos, 1990-92). The Andrews brothers have never played together on the same team at any level.

Thats a whole lot of praying.
i'm still surprised how well tra played. but homeboy is looking to get P-A-I-D. if he was younger, we'd throw the bank at him and you know their stupid asses are too retarded to tag him.
I don't know how much Tra is asking for but give it to him, draft his replacement, O-line is finished. Assuming Andrews is back at RG the only position up for grabs is LG (and Center in my eyes cause I wouldn't mind seeing Cole get a chance to supplant Jackson)
I honestly see the birds just moving Hereamans out to tackle and letting Jean-Gilles and Cole fight out for the LG spot.
I think that they probably pay Thomas. The actual term of the contract will be meaningless, as he only has 1-2 more years left. Although, you have to wonder about Shawn specifically mentioning playing LT.
Didn't they supposedly make a lowball offer to Tra and he reject it already?

I think it's safe to assume they lowballed him. Runyan took the offer over the Jets offer because he wanted to stay in the area, not so sure Tra cares.
Speaking of Tra he's having a charity golf tournament down here next week. Pretty much every Eagle of note is scheduled to attend. I would play but it's $250/player and since I'm just a poor public servant there's no way I can afford that.

tra didnt even have to say anything for us to know they lowballed him and dawk...its what they do to older players...everyone knows this...and generally they are correct in these types of decisions...but sometimes you have to veer of course from your regular MO and make exceptions...and they are unwilling to do this even in a year where they cant spend all the money they own under the cap if they tried and they have two situations that cry out for a change of philosophy...an all time eagle who didnt even want a lot of money and a guy that can still play and is at a position where youre desperate for players...hell dawk is also at a position where they are in trouble

Someone should sit Andy down and show him a tape of the 2007 game at the Meadowlands to show him how valuable Tra is.
oh god, please don't ever mention that game again.

last wed in the daily news tra came out and said the eagles made an offer but it was nowhere close to what he wanted

I think it's safe to assume they lowballed him. Runyan took the offer over the Jets offer because he wanted to stay in the area, not so sure Tra cares.
Since he's not signed yet it is probably also safe to assume nobody else is giving him what he wants

certainly looks that way...and lets hope its the case...cause the eagles could use him
nope...they can only use people who are absolutely as good as they always were...no room for adjustment in someones career
I suspect the plan is to make a low offer and hope nobody else gives up something much better. Then they bring him back on a 1 year deal that looks like a 3 year, and draft an OT day 1 to take his place in 2010.
I guess that's not rocket science
Schefter called this signing the 4th best move of the opening days of FA. The Jets getting Sheppard was #5 or #6. Haynesworth was #3. I didn't watch 1 or 2.

Probably Dawk and CBuck. :paranoid

Bengals upset with Andrews
Coach Marvin Lewis thought the lineman, now with the Eagles, fully intended to stay.
By Bob Brookover
Inquirer Staff Writer
DANA POINT, Calif. - It was clearly a subject that made Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis a little uncomfortable.
At a morning media breakfast yesterday, a reporter from Philadelphia stopped by Lewis' table for a scouting report on offensive lineman Stacy Andrews, signed by the Eagles to a six-year, $38.5 million contract at the start of free agency.
"He's a good young man and a good football player, but he's still learning to play the game," Lewis said.
Asked if he was disappointed about losing Andrews, Lewis admitted that he was, saying he felt he had been misled by the older brother of Shawn Andrews, the Eagles' two-time Pro Bowl guard.
"I was surprised because he led us to believe differently," Lewis said. "I was disappointed because Stacy led us to believe that he wanted to stay [in Cincinnati], so it was up to his representative to get a contract done. We felt like we had a deal done and then, all of a sudden, he walked away and that disappointed me."
Attempts to contact Andrews about Lewis' accusation were unsuccessful.
Based on the events that transpired soon after Andrews suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Week 16 last season against Cleveland, it was obvious that the Bengals wanted to keep their right tackle. Agent Rich Moran had not shut the door on negotiating a deal with the team.
The surgery on Andrews was performed by Angelo Colosimo, the Bengals' team physician, and the lineman began the rehab process with Cincinnati, too. If Andrews was sure he was going to part ways with the Bengals in free agency, he probably would have been reluctant to go through those two processes with a team he was about to leave.
Lewis said he was impressed with the way Andrews was going about his rehab, and the Bengals' head coach seemed confident that his former player will be fully recovered from surgery when the Eagles open their season in September. There is some belief that Andrews, 27, may recover in time to participate in the Eagles' minicamps.
"He's a guy who has worked hard to come back from this knee injury, and I would imagine he'd be ready to go when this season opens up," Lewis said. "That was the indication when he was in our building."
Obviously, the lines of communication between Lewis and Andrews broke down at some point during the free-agent process. The Eagles are obviously glad that they did because it gave them a chance to sign a player they believe will be part of their offensive line for the next half-dozen years.
Moran declined comment yesterday, but when he talked about Andrews' pending free agency in mid-February, he did not sound like an agent who had completed a deal with the Bengals.
"We're both cognizant that we haven't got a deal done since 2006," Moran told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "The injury doesn't make it any easier to identify a deal that both parties feel comfortable with."
The Bengals, according to the Enquirer, initially reported that Andrews had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate and other ligaments in his right knee, but it was later revealed that only the ACL was damaged. Cincinnati may have been overly cautious in its negotiations with Andrews because it had lost tackles Willie Anderson and Levi Jones to major injuries shortly after signing both to big contracts in 2006.
Whatever the case, the Eagles were willing to give Andrews big money, and they got a deal done.
Lewis declined to say what Andrews' best position would be with the Eagles. He played primarily at right tackle with Cincinnati, but he also has the ability to play guard.
"Wherever Andy [Reid] wants to put him, that's where he'll play," Lewis said. "It's not fair for me to judge somebody who isn't my player."
It's clear that Lewis felt as recently as last month that Andrews would still be a member of the Bengals.
i didn't realize that he didn't tear his knee until week 16. awesome.

Obviously, the Brookover and his dead brain editor don't mind repeating phrasing in consecutive sentences. Obviously.
I think it's obvious what happened. Andrews' agent told him "You were playing for the Bengals, obviously, and now you can go to the NFL. Here's the teams that are obviously interested."

Eagles guard Stacy Andrews was recently involved in a domestic dispute in which his girlfriend told police that Andrews punched her in the face, according to a report filed by police officers in Lumberton Township, Burlington County.
Andrews denied the accusation yesterday.
On the afternoon of Sept. 30, police received a call from a woman stating that she had been struck in the face by her boyfriend, according to the police report obtained by The Inquirer.
Two Lumberton police officers arrived approximately four minutes later at the house where they were met by Brandy Box, Andrews' fiancée. Box stated that "she and her fiance were involved in a verbal dispute when he punched her," the report said. Twenty minutes later, Andrews was transported to the Lumberton Township police department.
The police report said Box did not want to file a request for a restraining order or sign a complaint.
After Box decided not to pursue the matter, Andrews was released.
"I didn't" hit her, Andrews said yesterday. "I'd be locked up and be in big doo-doo if I did."
Box could not be reached for comment.
An Eagles spokesman said the team had no comment.
Lumberton Township police said last night that only police chief Jeffrey Smith was allowed to answer questions. Smith could not be reached for comment last night.
"It was just relationship stuff," Andrews said. "We got into a heated argument. She was going to leave . . . but it ended up being nothing."
Andrews said the couple is still together, but no wedding date has been set.

:-D
i have a hard time believing this because there's no mention of her face showing any signs of physical abuse and andrews is a big farging dude and i'm pretty sure that if he hit someone, especially a chick, that it'd probably leave a mark.
Brandy Box? For real?

restructure or GTFO (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20100217_Eagles_sources_say_no_Stacy_Andrews_unless_he_agrees_to_restructure_deal.html)
eagles have some nerve...they sign a guy who had major knee surgery THIS year and are pissed he didnt play well enough
meanwhile, they keep leaving positive feedback on brother shawn's youtube videos.
Shawn stopped singing for a couple minutes to respond on Twitter:
QuoteTo the guy from the Phillly paper who wrote the story about my bro this morn. Be careful! News papers companies downsizing. u could be gone
thats actually hilarious
Your definition of hilarious is a little confusing.
Not hilarious by nearly any definition that closely approximates the word. Or even not so closely.
I'm not surprised.
They sign him to that deal, he's not ready to play (or just sucks), they use the "can't stick his knee in the ground" excuse all year and now tell him to take a pay cut.
Anyone really shocked?

QuoteStacy Andrews would restructure contract
Stacy Andrews said today that he would be willing to restructure his contract a year after the Eagles offensive lineman signed a six-year, $38.9 million deal as a free agent.
"I would do a minor restructuring of my contract," Andrews said by telephone. "They want to do an adjustment and we're willing. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement."
Andrews, who tore his ACL with the Bengals near the end of the 2008 season, started only two games at right guard last season and sat on the bench for much of the season. The Eagles said it was because he hadn't fully recovered from the knee injury. Andrews, though, said the knee was not the problem and that his lack of production had more to do with being switched from tackle to guard.
"The knee didn't hinder me," Andrews said. "I felt real good on the knee. It took a while to get comfortable at guard and get a new system down."
The Eagles made a splash by signing Andrews just as free agency opened last February. He was signed as a tackle, having played 28 straight games there before his injury, or a guard. He was considered a possible replacement for Jon Runyan at right tackle, but when minicamp came around the Eagles moved his younger brother, Shawn, from right guard to right tackle and Stacy was switched to right guard.
"The team said it would be best for Shawn to play tackle," Stacy Andrews said. "At first I felt uncomfortable about it, but I was like, 'Hey. it's my little brother and it will help his back out.'"
It did not. Shawn Andrews re-injured his back during training camp and missed the entire season. He had sugery in November and is currently rehabbing in Southern California.
Stacy, meanwhile, wants to remain an Eagle. He earned approximately $5.5 million in salary and bonuses last season and is slated to earn another $7.6 million this season. More than half -- $4.1 million -- would come in a bonus that would be paid out in early April.
Andrews said he would be willing to take a cut, but he "wouldn't mess with the roster bonus."
Rich Moran, Andrews' agent, said he and the team have had discussions and will continue to do so.
"I've always had an amicable relationship with the Eagles," Moran said.
The Eagles had no comment.
he'll restructure, have a monster year, ask for a raise, medical reports will surface saying that his knee is shot and get released.
In the mean time, he gets the 2009 Jerome McDougle Cap-Rape award
Man...who didn't see moving the all pro guard outisde and moving the pretty good tackle inside to guard as a bad move....oh, that's right, Andy Reid.
god how friggin smart are the andrews brothers
neither one of them has done a damn thing for the past 2 years yet both are absolutely cakin right now off little jeffy luries dime. good for them. they are the living the american dream--stealing money of entitled rich jewish people whose obscenely wealthy parents bought them a football team after their movie producing career was an unmitigated disaster.
They're stealing from people who pay Lurie's bills, namely me, you cocksock.
