Title: Eagles @ San Fran-Game Thread
Post by: shorebird on October 12, 2008, 10:31:45 AM
Clifton Brown (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=whytheeaglesareandwhatth&prov=tsn&type=lgns) from The Sporting News has pretty much the same outlook towards the Eagles as fans here at CF, but says it's not too late.

QuoteMcNabb caught some flak for taking his concerns public, writing on his blog that he was "embarrassed," by the Eagles' performance. What's wrong with that? He told his teammates the same thing. And anyone who does not think the Eagles are in deep trouble has not checked out the NFC East standings.
Apparently, Andy Reid doesn't look at or know what place the Eagles currently occupy in the NFC East.

QuoteIt is not too late for the Eagles. They begin a crucial three-game stretch Sunday on the road against the 49ers (2-3). That is followed by their bye, a home game against the Falcons, and a road game against the Seahawks. That is the softest part of the Eagles schedule, giving them a chance to reach 5-3 before hosting the Giants in Week 10.

.......a chance to be 5-3 before losing too the Giants?

The Giants?!? I'm just hoping that they can beat the Niners without Bwest. The Fortyniners are just about a mirror image of the Eagles up to this point in the season. They flat out blew a game last week against the Patriots. Their defense is giving up big plays and way too many points. Their offense is erratic as hell. Sound like any other team you know?

I don't know what to expect from this team after the last two games. I know they should beat the Niners, but have no idea wether they will or not. This team, up 'till now, has found more ways to lose games than they've found to win games.

I was going to reply to the other stuff in your post, but this struck me a bit. I don't feel that this team in it's current state should be anyone other than the dregs of the NFL (see: Rams, Lions, etc.) The Niners have gotten better than last year, which makes them mediocre - which is at least as good as the Birds right now.

Feeling this team should beat mediocre teams at this point is based on feelings generated during the preseason, when everyone evaluates what's been done on paper. On the field so far this season, this team hasn't done anything to prove any of the preconceived notions generated during the preseason.

If the Birds win this, it'll be much more close than it should be. I can again see them come out and be fired up, make a few big plays to get an early lean, then they'll shut it down, and the coaching staff will allow it to happen.

24-21 Birds.

For me personally, this is the one game on the entire schedule that the Eagles absolutely CAN NOT lose.

If they lose this game... I'm screwed for a year at the very least.

Eagles - 30
Niners - 16

There will be an Eagles D/ST touchdown in this game...

No faith:

49ers 28
Eagles 24

Reid goes for 3 with 24 seconds remaining and 4th and goal at the 3, thinking he'll be able to onside kick.

this is one of those games that the eagles have when their back is against wall and they come out all cylinders firing and win big.  no reason to expect that, but i have a feeling

Eagles - 27

If Reid didn't try to drive down the field with 30 seconds and 3 time outs left, we'd all be on his case....so I don't blame him for that.

How you let that much of a jailbreak happen on the line on a FG is ridiculous.

fargin Akers.....

Here's a plan... Don't let that muthafarger on the team plane.  Rent that bitch a rowboat and make him row his ass out of San Fran, down the Pacific coast, through the Strait of Magellan, up the Atlantic Ocean and by the time he gets into the Caribbean a hurricane comes around and wipes his bitch ass out.

And while I'm at it, the blocking on that play sucked balls too; fargin jailbreak.....

not akers fault, but akers is done. im more pissed off at the half-ass attempt to get into field goal range. thats not akers range anymore. come on...SF got all the momentum going into the half.  :boom
Title: Re: Eagles @ San Fran-Game Thread
Post by: ice grillin you on October 12, 2008, 05:50:49 PM
even if its not blocked he doesnt make it...reid is at fault for having him try a 54 yarder that he cant make...on 3rd down you need to run a deep out or a deep cross where you can get into legitimate fg range...once you see its a 54 yarder you hail mary
Title: Re: Eagles @ San Fran-Game Thread
Post by: Seabiscuit36 on October 12, 2008, 05:53:55 PM

SF game planned well so far...these quick passes and eating us up and thankfully they are that bad that they can't finish with TD's, but I have yet to see any adjustments on the Eagles D to counter act these quick passes.

Birds look ok...McNabb is doing very well. They actually have attempted to run today, but not enough.

just watching the gamecast the whole thing is:

(niners) up the middle for (#) yards.

runs, passes,  you name it. i wonder if the interior of our d line is getting raped or bradley is sucking or a combo of all of those plus andy being andy.  about halfway through the 3rd quarter and LJ and bunk have yet to show up on the stat sheet.

Logically, I know this game is going to be a loss. For some reason I'm not getting that same sense of dread I had in the Skins and Bears games.

Also, is it just me or is Buck the only one playing with any heart today.

LOL@ at someone finally getting points on an Akers' 50+ yard field goal.

LOL@ Spikes picking McNabb.

LOL @ Buck ripping off almost 7 YPC with 13 carries to McNabb's 31 passes.

and finally

LMFAO @ Vernon Davis finally having his coming out party against  our stellar LBs.

Hunt was an awful pick 2 years ago in a weak RB draft. This past draft was stacked with RB, so they trade for Booker. I would rather they take a chance on a rookie.

I thought Akers missed that.

I'm pretty surprised that this game was as high scoring as it was.  I mean, there was a lot of defensive and special team breaks leading to scores, but still, pretty surprising.

Oh, and this team is still hot farging garbage, win or lose, and Reid's fat farging ass needs to go.

Have to admit, ya' called that one.

Even with a win, and losses by the Cowboys and taterskins, as beautiful as it was, the Eagles are still in last place with a 0-2 division record. This team needs to get healthy. Without Andrews, Curtis, Brown, or Westbrook, a run at a wildcard doesn't look too feasible.
