Not sure anybody will even care about this, but thought it would be cool to see who everybody would want to see on the banner.
Dirty Watters
i voted for wes eight times
Someone else voted for him negative four times then.
Thought Concrete Charlie, Vermeil, Keith Byars and Dawkins should be on the list. Papale, as nice as the story is, blah blah blah, has no business being up there. He was a marketing tool then and still is now. I want to punch people when I see them wearing Papale jerseys.

Come on, Papale is every guys top non-sexual fantasy. Imagine giving up your hum-drum job to be a professional football player.
There are hundreds of things I'd rather do, except for the money that goes along with it...that is pretty enticing.
Westbrook, Joyner, Allen, Dawkins, Brown, Carmichael, Waters, & Duce.
bergey, dawkins, jerome brown, andre waters, carmichael, montgomery, westbrook, & mcnabb

Face it, Sun, this poll is fundamentally flawed.
yeah, i forgot dawkins...no doubt
he plays safety if you were wondering.
number?
i'm not sure.
not ringing a bell here
He would be the eagle wearing #20 that doesn't have a shotgun in his mouth

I agree. Does that mean that he should be recognised among the greatest all-time Eagles? I'm not saying that what the guy did wasn't amazing. For any average Joe to make it as a walk on to an NFL team is an amazing accomplishment and Papale should always feel good about that. I don't have anything against the dude. It's a great story. But at the same time, I'm not some huge fan of Vince Papale "the football player." I'm a fan of Vince Papale "the story."
5 years ago you'd be hard pressed to find someone wearing a Papale jersey. Maybe someone like FS64 (aka old ;) ) who got a custom jersey made. 5 years ago the Eagles didn't even sell the jersey because most people under the age of 30 wouldn't have even known who he was. So when I go to the games and see a bunch of people walking around with an obvious brand new Papale jersey, it just irritates the crap out of me because I think most people are wearing it to try and make it look like they're some kind of old school Eagles fan or something.

the fact that papale and bednarik are two of the most beloved eagles makes me sick...at least vince seems like a geniunely good guy so i can live with him...but bednarik makes me physically ill
I love Bednarik. I don't care if he hates the organization and is a bitter old fart.

Gotcha.
BTW, I voted for every white guy on the list, and frankly, I'm disturbed that there aren't more! What about Kevin Turner? Jaime Asher? Mike Mamula?

Papale wasn't your "average joe" though. He was a all american track star at St Joes U, and he played pro ball before when he tried out and made The Philadelphia Bell (of the WFL)...that's where Vermeil discovered him.
Sarge is probably basing his statement more on the fictionalized version in the movie.

I know that Vermeil knew who he was before he tried out for the Eagles. And even though Papale may have been a damn good athlete, he was still barely recognizable even in his home city before he made the Eagles. My argument isn't that Papale wasn't a good athlete or anything. My argument is that he was an average special teams player who wouldn't have gotten any recognition at all if he wasn't a hometown boy.

Nope, not at all. That's one of the reasons why I didn't care all that much for the movie.
Point is, Eagles fans walking around in a Papale jersey is just as douchey as a Notre Dame fan wearing a Rudy jersey.
Yeah, but neither compare to those that wear #12 to represent the fans as the "12th man".
Who does that? Texas A&M will sue them for copyright infringement.
I think the Seahawks do it, and it's spattered about football in other places.
Anyway, it's for stylishly-dressed young men.
BTW, the top vote-getters so far are Reggie, Westbrook, and Andre Waters tied at 10. I'd be ok with a banner of just those three.
no on reggie...not only did he leave the eagles in his prime but he won a superbowl on his new team...i dont but a lot of people consider him a packer
He also might be the most dominant player ever to wear an Eagle uniform.
he was also an evangelist, a bigot, a flakey big shot who made promised he didn't keep, and oh yeah...a Packer
farg him
wes hopkins was none of those things and never played a single game for any team but his beloved eagles

nicely done
in fact i believe from that list wes - jb and quick are the only non current players who didnt play for another team in their career (cept papale of course)
and its no coincidence those are the three that should win this...they are all locks...the only reason youd vote reggie is because hes dead which really isnt a reason but if it is then jb comes way before him...hispanics are good at the family structure they can put 20-30 people in one home
Yeah fill up our banner with 1991 players... that'll really help whenever we accuse taterskins and Cowboys fans of living in the past.

Mother Nature's idea for your face was pretty simple too. And the bitch still farged that up.
I like the idea of having players from various eras/generations up there though. Doesn't really matter how many from each. IMO it should probably be a reflection of the board population, which yes, would mostly consist of players from the 80's - present. I know about Bednarick, McDonald, Bergey, etc, etc. But I never watched them play. Therefore, I'm not really a fan of any of them.

I don't think people wear Papale Jerseys because they are trying to be "old school", I think they do because it is a great story.
its actually neither...they did it because it was the in thing to do when the movie came out...in five years you wont see any papale jerseys...its no different than those retarded yellow and blue johnsons that came out this year

I fixed that up for ya
i remember siting behind a little kid in a bloom jersey two years ago and that little shtein got harassed the whole entire game.
serves the little farger right
As for the Papale jerseys they had them at Kohls for $60 during the season. I was tempted to buy one because it had the late 70's style uniform for a decent price. I would have definitely bought one if they had another player like Jaws or Montgomery.
I would buy a Papale jersey to add to my collection and hope that maybe one day I could get it autographed by him. But I'd never wear it. I wouldn't mind adding a few old time players jerseys to my collection either.....Bednarick, Bergey, McDonald for example. But they would strictly be for show, never to wear. Just my personal preference.
I need a new jersey this year, I'll probably get my screenname across the back and use #1, i heard thats cool
you wont be coming to any of my tailgates
he will if i invite him!
which i won't
Just ordered it..holler
You would have a better chance finding me in a popped collar than a jersey like that.
Im just happy i didnt get the Lito jersey i was going to buy last september. I could always go with the jersey with 4 different players on it, i hear thats cool.
I've gotten a sneak peak at the new banner, and I really like it. I don't know where he got pictures of Joe Panos and Jabbar Gaffney though, but man it looks great.
Maybe Mad-Lad can put together a banner with the 8 of the biggest draft busts in Eagles history and we can put it up until after the draft. We could have "seasonal banners." When training camp opens up we could have a banner with players who are awesome in camp and crap in actual games. Guys like Na Brown come to mind on that one. Leading up to the combine we could use the Mike Mamulas and such.
