The kiss of death was the 10 pt. favorite. Ted Ginn Jr. probably runs one back and Marty Booker dominates our corners. Jason Taylor forces at least one McNabb fumble.

Question, because I don't feel like going back and looking for it.

But what did you think last year when the Eagles were at pretty much this same point?

I dont' think they make the playoffs either, but just curious what you were spewing back then? You, with your almighty wisdom and all.

Give yourself some credit, IGY.  I'm sure you never once said "I think they won't make it" but more likely "no way they make it", "they'll lose 4 games", and "never beat those three on the road" and other 100% over the top, no way you're wrong blanket statements.

I think there's zero chance the Eagles make the playoffs, and at this point I think they'll finish 7-9/8-8 which is better than I had hoped because that puts them in the high teens low twenties for a draft pick. The scary part is with a win next week they'll only be 1 game out of the WC spot. That's scary because the Eagles are just an all around bad team yet are still in the playoff hunt. hoorah for the NFC.

If by 'run the table' you mean beat the Pats or Cowboys you're on crack. The only reason we have a remote chance in the other games is because the remaining teams are as bad as the Eagles vice maybe the Giants. Aints in the dome is a loss.

I think the main diff between this year and last year isn't the schedule but the way division opponents are playing. The Giants and Cowboys are bonafide playoff teams. Last year that wasn't the case.

What she means is that after they (presumably) beat the Dolphins, and get annihilated by the future SB winner, the Birds record will be 5-6, with an insurmountable schedule to come.  Then, presumably, she believes they'll win out over DAL, NYG, BUF, SEA, NO, finish 10-6 and be the winner of the East.

Except, Dallas and the Giants don't completely suck this year.  Buffalo might actually have something to play for, as will (likely) NO.  She lives in a fantasy world with Dave Spadaro, this after she claims she's been calling out Reid for years.  Laughable.

Of course, after that improbable win against the Skins, I'll catch shtein for calling 4-12 after the Packers game, when they go 5-11.

The best to hope for there is beating Buffalo, New Orleans and Seattle, and go 8-8. Even if they back into the playoffs with that record, a likely opponent would be the Cowboys, Giants or Packers. Thats a loss.

This team is just not good enough for me to think they win the last three of those games. Friggen' James Thrash ate up our seocondary yesterday. James Thrash goddammitt!! It was the first TD that the taterskins has thrown to a wideout all year!! And he caught two of them!! As bad as the Saints and the Bills can look, this team can make them look good just like they did the Skins yesterday. I've thought all this year that the Saints aren't as bad as they are playing. Brees could very well shred the Eagles secondary.

Talking about the absurdity of the Eagles making the playoffs isn't the same as talking about the legitimate potential, home boy.

I still think 8-8 is this team's destiny and if 8-8 equates to them being a playoff team then that just goes to show how horrendous the NFC really is as a conference.

QuoteJohn Beck, QB MIA
News: The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero is reporting a source has told him John Beck, not Cleo Lemon, will start at QB for the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 at Philadelphia.
Analysis: Talk about getting thrown into the fire, as Beck will make his NFL debut in one of the most hostile environments in the league on Sunday when he steps onto the field in Philly. Maybe Cam Cameron wants to see what kind of mental strength Beck has now that he has decided his second-round pick has all the physical tools to be a starting QB in the NFL. Beck definitely has some sleeper potential, but probably shouldn't be starting in any leagues just yet.

Beck isn't just any rookie.  He went to BYU and defied all logic by being passed up when Reid selected Kolb.

How hilarious would it be if Beck turned out to be a stud and Kolb never did anything of note?

if the dophins cut him or trade him the eagles should pick him up.

not cause he really would help (well if he ever got his head back into the game and played like he used to he might) but just imagine the orgasm ESPN would have coming up with stories about how Mcnabb was booed because they didnt select Williams and now they are teammates.

they can even sit them two down and have a group interview with rachel nichols or something.

SI.com is a big step up for Roob from the Courier Times.

Interesting snippet:
QuoteBrett Favre completed 33 of 46 pass attempts for 351 yards with three touchdown passes and no interceptions and bumped his career passer rating up from 85.4 to 85.5 But Favre still fell from 16th to 17th in NFL history in career passer rating. Donovan McNabb's rating after a four-TD, no-INT performance improved from 85.3 to 85.8, and he passed Favre and moved into 16th place.

he kind of twists some stats in there about when the qbs were cut, he makes it sound like they were cut midseason which is weird and he also calls Ginn a bust already which is monumentally stupid, but otherwise it's a pretty good article.  pretty cool to see Reuben writing for the big boys.

Reuben Frank is a sports writer for the Burlington County Times in Willingboro, NJ.

Sure, but that's how most writers start going national.

Eagles DE Juqua Thomas has formally been promoted to the starting lineup, ahead of Jevon Kearse.
The Birds will continue to rotate their five ends, but Thomas has outplayed Kearse and has more sacks despite being in a situational role the first nine games. Now, he'll be starting at left end opposite Trent Cole. Thomas is very undersized for the position at 6-2/250, but possesses more big play ability.

Well at least we can look forward to the team wasting their first pick on an ineffective DE.

i think the team is forever cursed to be stuck with or obtain undersized ends.  :-\

QuoteBeck hopes to become latest rookie to beat Eagles
By ROB MAADDI, AP Sports Writer
November 16, 2007

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Making his NFL debut for a winless team in a hostile road environment against an aggressive defense seems like a daunting task for John Beck of the Miami Dolphins.

Beck can take comfort knowing the last two rookie quarterbacks to face the Philadelphia Eagles came out winners.

Tampa Bay's Bruce Gradkowski beat Philadelphia in his third career start last October. Vince Young led Tennessee to an easy victory over the Eagles in his ninth game a month later.

There used to be a time when defensive coordinator Jim Johnson's complex schemes gave Philly a huge advantage against young signal-callers. Johnson's blitz-happy unit often rattled inexperienced QBs into making costly mistakes.

Neither Gradkowski nor Young committed any turnovers in their wins over the Eagles last year. They didn't put up big numbers, either. But both players did enough to help their team win.

Gradkowski, an undrafted rookie, only completed 13 of 26 passes for 104 yards and led Tampa to just three field goals -- Ronde Barber returned two of Donovan McNabb's interceptions for touchdowns.

But Gradkowski directed the winning drive in the final minute and his 9-yard run set up Matt Bryant's improbable 62-yard winning field goal that gave the Buccaneers a 23-21 win.

Young, a first-round pick, was just 8-for-22 for 101 yards and one TD in the Titans' 31-13 win in Philadelphia in the game that McNabb sustained a season-ending knee injury. He also hurt the Eagles with his legs, running for 49 yards.

"When you get a rookie quarterback, you want to exploit him in every way that you can," Eagles linebacker Takeo Spikes said. "You still have to do the little things right, because, believe it or not, he's going to do the little things right. That offensive coordinator is going to make sure that he's not going to put him into too much. He's going to keep it simple."

Spikes figures the defense will see a heavy dose of running back Jesse Chatman on Sunday. Chatman has played well since replacing the injured Ronnie Brown. He had 124 yards rushing in a 13-10 loss to Buffalo last week and is averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

"I plan on those guys coming out and running the ball a lot and not putting a lot of pressure on (Beck)," Spikes said. "Just telling him, 'Just manage the game. You don't have to go out and win it for us; just manage it."'

Beck hasn't thrown a pass this season, so the coaching staff had to scout him based on preseason tapes and his days at BYU. A second-round pick, Beck replaced Cleo Lemon. Trent Green started Miami's first four games before going down for the season.

The 0-9 Dolphins stand in the way of the Eagles (4-5) reaching .500 for the first time this season.

"He played a lot in preseason and we've studied the preseason film," Johnson said. "We have about 60 plays he's played in preseason, so we studied that a little bit. I think they'll stay with the same offense. The guy's a smart quarterback. He knows the offense, I'm sure. It's just a matter of getting the rust off, but he's a player and I think he can manage the offense."

Beck was the first quarterback drafted in the first or second round by the Dolphins since Dan Marino. He'll become the 12th QB to start for Miami since Marino retired following the 1999 season.

The 26-year-old Beck served a church mission in Portugal before beginning his college career, so he's older and more mature than a typical rookie.

Philadelphia considered drafting Beck as its quarterback of the future, but selected Kevin Kolb four picks ahead of him.

"I think the people that you talk to will tell you that he's a heck of a player and has an opportunity to really be special at that position," coach Andy Reid said. "He's got good size, good arm strength, tremendous pocket presence and timing. He's a smart kid. He's old enough and mature enough to handle the NFL right now."
