Roper inactive so Mike Lewis can suit up.
Actually Roper is inactive in favor of Avant. I guess Roper's knee is still gimpy.
A little disappointed that James is out again. But we'll need him against Colston next week. :paranoid

Why is Feeley out?...
I do not want to see Detmer taking any snaps if the unthinkable happens.

Feely's the 3rd QB. I'm pretty sure if Garcia gets seriously hurt where he's out for the rest of the game, you'll see Feeley and they'll go back to Johnson holding for FGs. Or they'll take the Carolina approach--line up Westbrook in a single wing and just run the ball until the 4th quarter.

Reid said he was the #3 this week.
If Garcia misses a series or a few snaps - Koy goes in (and presumably hands it off several times).
If Feeley goes in its because Garcia is out for the game. And if he goes in before the 4th, Detmer and Garcia are out of the game for good. Dirk then holds.

Giants win the toss and will receive. Good, I prefer getting the ball after the half.
I'm attempting to tape the Field Pass feed, so hopefully I can catch Merrill's calls if there are any magic Eagles moments. If the Birds lose, I'm burning the tape though.
Mike Quick going off about discipline for the Eagles while the ref calls out the penalty. Nice.

Yeah, but a kick off is a live ball. Whoever made the tackle was coming up pretty fast and could have made a play. However, he might have been ineligible because he looked out of bounds.

It was stupid in that he picked it up and ran backwards with it. If he was going to see if it was going to roll out, he could have shadowed the ball and if the Giants got close enough just batted it out himself.
Ok I am really bumming out. That really sucked.
First series on both ends were sickening. Someone better get into Paxico's head.
OK, now I feel better after that stand.
Good stop there, by the Giants penalties and Eli's bad throws. I suppose maybe the Birds defense had a tiny bit to do with it too.
Joe Buck's head up the Giants ass makes me want to drink lots of drano.
Nerves are calmed( a little ), good job D.
good stand there. Need to put together a good drive. Eli still looks like crap and rattled. He doesn't even step into throws when he's out of the pocket and there are no linemen in front of him.

PAthetic Garcia. That was an encouraging stat -2 total yards.
Two drives. Not a single completion yet.
Dirk has his weekly zesty punt. :boo
They need to wake up. This is unsettling right now.
WTF, I hope the coaches figured the Gmen would throw something else at them this game, the offense is looking unprepared and it is not a good sign 90 yds to 6yds :'( Our D will get tired and beaten if we don't put some drives together this half.
One more three and out, then the crowd will quiet down. Fun!

Lucky ass motherfarger though. He's lucky that the push that knocked him down knocked over a ref.
Let's get some points before half
Runyan was tied with Joey Porter for 2nd place in this year's "dirtiest player" poll of fellow NFL players.
That was stupid clock management. I hope we don't need that TO at the end of the half.
one thing that has always bugged be about AR is that he simply refuses to go into the last 2 minutes of a half with all 3 time outs
How the hell was that complete and why the hell did Garcia throw it!

If they don't resign Stallworth... I'm going to kill Joe Banner. Slowly.
I really liked the way they broke up that Tiki run. Just collapsed their blocking.

Well, it was typical of the Eagles to come out slow in a playoff game. They seem to every single year. At least the offense usually does.

Westbrook did the punt return. It just kinda looked like Mahe.
Yeah, 2nd quarter much better than first. The Eagles get the ball after half too.
How is Westbrook's TD run not a halftime highlight?
Strong finish after a slow start by the Eagles.
Reid continues to kill me with his mismanagement of timeouts, especially towards the end of a half. The first TO was Garcia's fault but to let 20 seconds run off the clock before calling one on defense gets pinned on Andy.

Well it was a nice start to the half.
Finally.
Points. Eagles need points out of this field position/drive.
A touchdown would be nice.
Pretty funny that UPS is using music from The Postal Service in their commercials. Didn't they make a promotional deal with the USPS so they could keep their name?
Pretty lame that the Eagles haven't capitalized on the good field position.
EAGLES BALL!
As soon as Hanson touched it the only way the Eagles could have gotten it would have been on a fumble on an attempted advance.
wtf was that? The ball was illegally touched by the kicking team the ref said. Don't get it.
Yeah I was surprised that the officials actually made that call to begin with.
Can't you get Merrill's broadcast on theshark1037.com?

I don't recall them having carte blanche if they pick up the ball and head up field. Otherwise every team would be back there going for the ball when it rolls to a stop and is touched. It'd be a melee.
This is in response to what QB E said by the way.
Too bad the refs saw that one...
After it gets touched by the punting team they have carte blance.
Damnit. I don't know how necessary that block in the back was too. Friggin' A.
Still, like seeing Westy back for punt returns against NY Giants

Ten point lead. I hope that doesn't get cut down on the next drive.
A touchdown would have been nice, as you said, but I'm not upset with a FG there. Used some time up on the clock. Took advantage of field position. Akers' conversion translates into confidence for/in him for the rest of the game at least.
3rd and 2...did he make it?
he did
Pretty favorable spot.
Congratulations to Akers for setting a team record for longest postseason FG.

Great win. Any win in the playoffs is great. But they have to play better in the 2nd half next week agains the Saints. They looked like they were playing not to lose and I didn't see that attack mentality.
When it came to the end, however, they ate 4 minutes from the clock and put the nail in the coffin. Hopefully Akers keeps his confidence up and hopefully he'll continue to be clutch in the playoffs.

Never fear. Even if he can't play we got the best nickel in the league in Hood and mighty Will/iam James Peterson. Also Hanson plays like he's 10'2.

Maybe her and Stockton meet up with Grossman and Burrell and let 'er rip.
Know what's weird? I had a strange calm feeling after the Giants scored the tying TD. They left too much time on the clock. Honestly even if there had been 2:00 on there after Burress' score I had a feeling that they would drive and score. They have been very good of late with short time drives. The Stallworth TD was with less than two minutes in the first half. They had the FG before half in Dallas too.
Westbrook was a stud today. And dude had the shteins all afternoon. No joke. Reid said he was late coming out in the 2nd half because of the squirts. And he gashed them for a buck forty.
Why do the Eagles injure themselves with friendly fire? Kearse was leg whipped by Patterson. McNabb goes down all alone. Lito's elbow gets leg whipped by Juqua. Losing him could be big. I was hoping that he could brace it up and play with one arm. Having Will James is HUGE now.
LJ Smith, Reggie Brown and Donte Stallworth had GREAT days blocking. Stallworth especially.
Shawn Andrews is a hit man. He snipes people.

Who is that with Garcia? Leslie Visser? She looks like a strung out coke whore.
She looks like she's made of plastic.
Also...
I'm glad they're done with Burress this year. He eats them up.
Yo Sheldon...enough with the goddamn PI calls. Please!!
Yo Rod Hood....start tackling better. Since that Indy game dude has zero interest in tackling.
I'm too tired to read through 24 pages of thread, who did Andy Reid try to melt with that gaze he gave during that timeout?
Looked like Jeff Garcia for taking the timeout before the 2min warning. Or it could have been Runyan for the penalty.
It looked like he was looking at someone behind Garcia.

He was looking at someone THROUGH Garcia.
Similar to our last matchup I felt the officiating was awful. Runyan should have been tossed, and they showed at least 3 late blows to the head on Garcia at the game that went uncalled. They didn't show a replay of the block in the back that negated the Westbrook punt return at the game, so I have no idea if that was legit.

They did show it once, and it was either a wrong call or a bogus call. Daniels had his hands in front of the defender, but the defender was running too fast for him to keep up. So Daniels started to turn his back (so he wouldn't be called for block in the back) and tried to hook the defender's arm - more of a hack than a hold. Holding would have made more sense, but it is really hard to block someone in the back who is behind you.
Still, gotta love getting the ball with 5 minutes left, killing all of the clock, then winning the game with your money kicker. Yes friends, Koy does make a difference.
Right on, I was in the upper level and didn't see anything that even remotely resembled a penalty.
Just like to add that the 12th man was huge today, the crowd was loud and the Giants had a ton of false starts and were forced to burn TOs because of crowd noise.

The officiating was sloppy, and Runyan would have gotten' thrown out if the ref had been looking at him instead of the guy running up behind him. We'd have all been calling him a big dumbass if he had gotten' tossed. But I can't help but love the attitude of this o-line. They are friggen' nasty and blew the Giants off the ball yesterday. They mauled them.
That PI call on Brown was bogus. The only contact on that play was when Plax pulled Brown by his facemask--notice that didn't get called. Also, Brown was mugged by Bell and that didn't get called either.
Interesting stat heard on Sirius this morning - over 100 of Westbrook's rushing were to the right, behind Runyan & Andrews. He had less than 50 yards going left and up the middle combined.
Runyan better not pull that kind of crap again next week. It was great to see him jack up people without any repercussions but next week he won't be as lucky.
And there was holding all game on both sides of the ball. The refs for the most part let them play.
Well, lets see if Rod Hood can earn himself a huge contract at the end of the season by playing big now. Everyone always says he's 'starting calibur' so we'll see if he can live up to that billing in extremely meaningful games.
Sucks that Lito is out, though. He's a big reason as to why they are playing so well on that side of the ball. No one really tests him much.
i don't want mcnabb on the sidelines anymore...they play better when he's not there.
:-X
It was a great game to be at-- that said, the Giants fans there were really obnoxious throughout the game. They NEVER would have gotten away with that shtein at the vet. Seems like a different crowd, really. Granted, we were in some good corporate seats, so that contributed. Still....

I actually agree. Pam Oliver said he was looking at pictures and Garcia actually had to ask him for them so he could look at them. That's BS right there. If he wants to cheerlead, that's fine - but now is not the time to get involved in the offense or learn some new tricks for himself.

And honestly, no one should expect that to change this week. A good New Orleans team. Playing at home. After a bye. I have my problems with Andy Reid, but I would expect the Eagles to lose this game with anyone at the helm.
Even Jessica Alba?
Especially Jessica Alba. Did you see those pictures of her? She has terrible hands and shameful form throwing the football. How's she supposed to coach an offense when she can't even get her own technique right? Think man, think.
I would think her presence by itself would be inspiring enough, unless the team has a gay QB.
Oops.
If her job was to prance around the sideline in a bikini and occasionally flash the brown wink, she wouldn't be 'at the helm' now would she?

Much as I hate to admit it, I feel the same way. The Eagles aren't going to be favored. The Saints are much, much better than the Giants offensively. Brees throws deep and short with great accuracy to good recievers, and they have a killer running game. Our D will have to step up big time.
It's amusing that the Chargers had their choice of TWO QB's better than Eli before this season.

they won, so that covers up the fact that they went 3 and out with 3 straight passes early in the 4th quarter, and gave the ball right back to the Giants.
Andy's not calling the plays anymore! Not his fault! :-D
But seriously, what infuriated me was the incompletion on 1st down, then the run for anywhere from -1 to 2 yards on 2nd down, followed by the 3rd and long. This had to happen at least 18 times yesterday. Roughly.
One thing I liked yesterday that you haven't seen much from Ried was decent clock managment at the end running it down to three seconds so the Giants wouldn't get the ball back. But hey, thats what he's supposed to do. It was kinda' unexpected to see good clock managment on that last drive.
we shouldn't be complimenting him for making one move that a pee-wee league coach or retarded monkey could make. his time management was horrible as usual yesterday.
HORRIBLE.
Watching the Eagles try to figure out what to do as 23 or so seconds ticked off the clock at the end of the first half was torture.

YES.
isn't that the whole point of not calling plays anymore? so he can be more into the entire game?
It wasn't the only clock management snafu of the game, either.
I'm not tricked by this once-in-a-lifetime run: Reid is an awful game day coach, no matter how you cut it.
Exactly, the game should of been in the bag by the start of the 4th, but Reid continued to give the Giants the opportunity to get back in it.

Not talking about that particular TO. That was all on Garcia, no doubt about it.
But the Eagles had an opportunity to stop the clock on defense with about 45 seconds left of the clock in the first half. The Giants were out of timeouts and were facing a 3rd down. About 20 or so seconds ran off the clock before the Eagles took a TO. That extra time would have been nice to have when the Eagles got the ball back to try and at least get a FG attempt out of it. Instead, they took over with about 11 seconds left on the clock. That falls directly on Reid and his in game suckiness.
Tru dat - it was twenty seconds more the Eagles could have had. You guys are correct. There's know way that I should even have an opportunity to scream at the television for the team to take a time out.
What impressed me was the defenses ability to hold the Giants when they kept getting the ball at the fifty (or better). What disappointed me was the defense's inability to keep them from getting a first down after having them at second and motherfarging thirty.
the worst part of that conversion of the 2nd and 30, 3rd and long was that they blitzed Sheldon off of Plaxico and left him alone with Considine.
the only reciever that Manning looked to all game was Plaxico, you cannot leave him one on one there, especially one on one with a safety.
Yeah Considine really pissed me off on that play. There is no excuse to miss that tackle. That being said he has actually played some decent ball the last couple of weeks.
I think that was the play that I officially lost my voice on.
3rd and 12... when Considine gets over there... he has to be under control. Get in front of Plax and make him come to him. If nothing else, it'll slow him up until the rest of the D can get over to help. He just goes flying over there and runs and slips right past Plax giving him nothing but open field to pick up the 1st.

The players are also able to call timeouts. So, 12 guys screwed up there in all.
It may be possible for any player to call one, but I don't think the coaches would be pleased if anyone other than the QB is calling timeouts.
It falls to Reid, no one else.
Defensive players normally call timeouts in situations where they're stopping the clock to get the ball back.
Only when they've been told to do so.
I think we can reach a middle ground here. We can blame just Reid and Trotter. That works for me.
Trotter can be blamed for other stuff though, like for being old and slow now.
Reid's older and slower. Get rid of both of them!

I had no problem with them waiting to call that TO. In fact I didn't think they should have called one at all. They had the momentum from just scoring and were going to get the ball back at the half. There have been too many fluky things in games agains the Giants this year and in years past to risk giving them more time to convert that 3rd and go down and recover some of the momentum before the half. Hell, they later converted when they faced a 2nd and 30!
The NFL game is all about momentum. There are times when you need to be aggressive in order to gain that momentum or extend it and there are times where it's better to be safe to avoid giving the other team some. The good coaches know when to pick the right spots.
Ultimately they won and the Eagles are now in the divisional round for the 6th time in 7 years - the only team in the league to have done that over that time period. They lead the league in regular season wins, division titles and championship game appearances during that stretch also.
But yeah, I guess it is just conincidence that a team does that with such an awful head coach, a tightwad owner, and poor draft pick choices.

typical apologist garbage.
is that all you care about? playoff appearances? how about titles? how about more than one Super Bowl appearance? this conference has been substandard for years now and they have nothing to show for it. but to you, that's ok. that's your problem, not ours.
and not trying to get points at the end of the half when you have a timeout and almost 40 seconds is MORONIC, but that falls right in line with your "well, this is good enough" philosophy.

The Eagles had the momentum and plenty of time to get the ball back and attempt to drive a nail into the Giants coffin. Instead, Reid let 20 seconds run off the clock before making a decision. The fact that the Eagles botched that opportunity may infact have given the Giants new life as indicated by them basically outplaying the Eagles for much of the 2nd half.

Speaking of coaches not learning from their past mistakes........
What it up with JJ thowing the house on 2nd and 30 and giving up 18 yards to Burress and then doing it again on 3rd and 12? The last time the Eagles blitzed the Giants like that, Plexiglass beat Sheldon down the field in OT for a score.
The first play to Burress he was well covered and just made a damn good catch but on the 2nd one, Considine was no where near him when he caught the ball and if the throw would have been a little lower then he wouldn't have even had a chance to whiff on the tackle.
JJ's been dialing up good blitzes and an all around pretty good game plan in recent weeks but he pretty much got schooled again by the Giants on those 2 plays.

Giants: Eyeing Eagles? Shockey says no
Wednesday, January 10, 2007
BY MIKE GARAFOLO
Star-Ledger Staff
Another potential controversy for the Giants popped up yesterday afternoon when Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown spoke about an on-field chat he had with tight end Jeremy Shockey in the second quarter of Sunday's playoff game in Philadelphia.
"He told me he wants to play here," Brown told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
But Shockey immediately squashed any possible rumblings that he doesn't want to be a Giant anymore.
"You're kidding me, right?" Shockey said through a team spokesman when informed of Brown's comments. "There are two teams that I love beating: Dallas, because I'm from that part of the country, and Philly, because they have won the NFC East for five of the last six years. We're 90 minutes away, and we can't stand each other.
"I am a Giant. I want to end my career with the Giants, and I want to win Super Bowls for the Giants. I don't want to be an Eagle, I want to beat them twice a year, or three times a year, if need be."
Shockey suggested he doesn't have any ill-feelings toward the Eagles, who face the Saints in New Orleans on Saturday.
"Right now, they are the only NFC East team left in the playoffs," he said, "and I wish them the best of luck."
And even though the Giants couldn't beat 'em, Shockey doesn't want to join 'em.
Shockey says a lot of stupid things
Looks like the media didn't get Sheldon's sense of humor.

I just want him to start being a more reliable cover guy. His PI call last week was blatant and pathetic.
TURN AROUND AND FIND THE BALL, DOUCHE.
Yeah. Unfortunately, Sheldon = Burress' bitch
Shockey was probably complaining that his team plays with no heart or urgency. Sheldon probably took that as 'he wants to play here'.

Me too. I didn't sweat it at all. I knew that with that much time, no giants timeouts we were going to win or go to OT, especially after the return.
