Kick off in less than 30 minutes.
Westbrook, Hood and Sheppard OUT.
Ahman Green OUT.
They should just let Irvin talk the whole time, our fans really love him.
I remember why I stopped watching the pregame stuff. This crap takes forever...
It's horrid.

Hey, they wanted to simulate coaching the Eagles as closely as possible.
Nice little story they just did on a kid from NY who has sickle cell anemia and got to spend a day with the Eagles during training camp. I hate seeing kids with illnesses that will most likely kill them when there are so many adults who deserve early death.

Man, even a insensitive prick like myself thinks that one is a good story. I guess if I really wanted to be a cynic I could see the sickening part to it.
It's not a matter of cynicism. It's a matter of taste. TV producers have none. It's a miracle that the story had any heart at all, and what heart it had was provided by the kid and the players. The TV people farged all the rest of it up, as they always do, with their stupid sentimental crap.
At least any neutrals watching tonight have to root for the Eagles now.
But but but ... Favre! Dead family! That kid's not dead yet!
That opening reminded me of Jade Empire.

Tired of the spoken introductions.
That Namath stuff never gets old.
Wow, I hate Theisman.
I dig how nonchalant Howard was on that false start. He stood up and pointed it out as though OF COURSE they'll call it. No histrionics. Just pointing it out.
3 and out. :yay
Retard #2 with a big hit on the receiver. Maybe he should save those for when the receiver might actually catch the ball.
Good start to the game.
And Mahe gets to the 40... flag out, of course.
I was almost excited to see Reno returning that punt.
When I saw Reno running like that, I knew there had to be an illegal hold or block.
a penalty is the only logical explanation for mahe returing a ball that far.
Let's see if there are any runs on the first series.
With Westbrook out, will there even be a pretense of a running game?
Shut up Runyan. Shut up shut up shut up.
Runyan with no introductions in his introduction. Nice. I would hire him to host an infomercial.

Eagles making the GB defense look like the Bears on that first series.
-5 yards on the first drive.
Kornheiser with the lame fantasy gag again.
Smith.
He looked very happy about that intro.
The hole was there Buckhalter, you gotta hit it, stop dancing around.
Sack. 3 and out.

This is a new strategy by Reid. It's like reverse psycology. Suck it up in the first half, dominate in the second. Still don't run the ball. Especially on 1st down.
Sheldon with the big whiff!
sheldon hasn't lost it. no way. ::)
Trotter is smert. He forgot to introduce Cole.
PG needs to answer for Brown's crap play.
This isn't helping my bad feeling about this game. :boom :boom :boom
He doesn't even know who the corners are. Neither does anyone else, but that's no excuse.
Dawkins doesn't make a tackle without taking the ball.

Sloppy broadcast. Replay was just cut into by an ad for Yonkers Avenue Auto Park.
I need to get this out of my system, farg you Theisman. Ah, feel much better. Untl his next packer ass licking.
It kinda of looks like the Eagles lucked out there on the being forced out deal.
They can bend all they want as long as they only let up FG's the offense continues to score 24+ points a game.
Mayhaps the offense can do something innovative this time. Like gain positive yards.
Nah..he wasn't gonna get his feet in even without Dawk laying the wood. His momentum was up and away. Unless he's plastic man, and he can extend his legs six inches, he's oob.
Well, so far the offense has scored no points this game. Let's just hold off on the FGs until they do, okay guys? Please?
At exactly what point in this game will we be able to say that the run has been completely abandoned by both teams? I'm thinking halfway through the 2nd quarter at the latest.
The slant play is killing the Eagles D this year they need to start bumping the WRs.
did they just call william penn ben franklin?

Purely guessing here but I would imagine that the closer you are to the goal posts, the more likely you would see the holder tilt the ball back to allow the kicker get under the ball for more elevation which reduced the possibility of getting it blocked. The further away you are, the less you tilt the ball.

McNabb needs to take over. It's the only way this one goes down in the W column.
that will only do some good if we can put him in on d too.
Hey, another Eagles DB down!
Nice hit.
Considine with the best hit I've seen all year from this defense.

This game's a nightmare for fantasy leagues. Low scoring, plus no Green, Westbrook, and now Driver is down.
Give us another replay, damnit!!
stop making shtein up leg
And Driver walks off. Atta boy.
The defense allows the Packers offense to be on the field entirely too long. Our offense needs the ball in its hands more.
Driver looks like he has no idea where he is right now.
I was even looking for the flag on that play.
Hanson made a drive ending play there. He's still a couple plays from breaking even.
Extremely lucky no call on that play.

I'd love to see a transcript of Kornheiser's attempted explanation. Guy was talking totally out of his ass and didn't know where to go with it.
Reggie got thrown like he's Pinkston.
Brown made that guy look silly.
Reggie stepped out of bounds before he was taken down. Did the ref see that?
What a suprise. Westbrook's out and Hank Baskett gets more looks/catches.....Not that I said his looks were only low because he was the 5th target or anything.... :-X
Way to get open, AND catch the ball Brown.

Seriously, Andy Reid, Donovan, Donte', and especially Correll and Akers should all farging impale themselves on an anorexic cheerleader, because they don't deserve to play in a stadium this nice. Choking dogs will be home watching the NFL playoffs with Pat Burrell. And they deserve it for gay-ass fake FG plays and grounders to open receivers and fumbles in the red zone.
Ass. Eaters.
You have to let Akers attempt that field goal, if he missess no big deal it was 54 yards if he makes it, well....
Worst thing that can happen is it gets blocked and returned for a TD. That would have been less pathetic than the Akers pass.

For a second there, though, I thought it was another fumble. I would have thrown the comptuer through the window.

Another TD by Greggie....wow

Greg Lewis having a career day on 2 receptions. Theismann audibly distressed.

Greggie is trying to take Reggie's starting job. In fairness to Reggie he really was mugged on that play.
Geez... the way Tony's talking, I'm waiting for Bush to proclaim "Mission accomplished."
Kornball must have missed the Giants game...

24 pts is a dangerous # for us. we need one more TD.

Gotta be very happy with this W.
Considering the alternative was blowing a streak that's held since 1962 while a kid with sickle cell attends his first Eagles game. Oh yeah, and going 2-2 in the easiest stretch of the season. And tying them with the taterskins.

Our LBs have been great so far.
I originally thought switching Howard to LDE and making Cole the starter at RDE was a good move, now I'm thinking Cole is much better as a pass rush specialist and not adequate as an every down DE. Maybe making Thomas - who's played well this season - the starter at LDE and moving back Howard to RDE makes more sense.

Soooo my take is that this team is in trouble if they play like this next week. Defense was not all that impressive. Favre just likes him some green. Offense looked lost without Westbrook in the first quarter and Stallworth is hurt along with Brown and westbrook.
Also coaching is still a big issue considering the end of the first quarter.... Discuss...

The Favre works in mysterious ways.
McNabb at the podium
27 runs, counting scrambles, to 32 passes, counting Akers.
McNabb should still lead the league tomorrow with 1248 passing yds & 9 passing TD's.
McNabb says he didn't know Westbrook would be out until right before the game...said he saw him in the hotel earlier today and thought he was OK...
So let me get this straight. Brown got hurt, Stallworth is still not 100%, and Westbrook, Hood and Lito didn't play this week. Oh and Buckhalter fumbled twice within the 5 yard line?
I just threw up on myself. Tick tock tick tock...
We've still got Mahe.
Nice win. Terrible first half, great second half. The offense misses Westbrook more than anyone would have thought, the defense is prone to short inside passes but comes up huge where it matters. Not sure what the injury line is after tonight's game for next week, but it's worrisome. Favre sucks, but apparently Theisman sucks Fave. Kind of a transitive proporties thing going on there.
Happy as hell with the win, but concerned about next week. The secondary can't give up short passes all night long and expect to beat Dallas, and the run defense was terrible. Luckily, Dallas has a shtein run game.
Eagles 27, Cowboys 20. And you guys make me proud and somehow find a way to kill TO while he's on the field. Do it.
Westbrook will be back next week. No worries. Brown and Stallworth...different stories. We'll have to see.
Stallworth spoke to DGunn and said that he's fine and they'll see if the MRI today (tomorrow?) shows anything, but the hamstring stuff is something he just deals with....

just got home. the start of the game was really weird. total letdown, from the field into the stands. every game i've ever been to, we started the first defensive series on our feet and screaming, but this game, the crowd just wasn't into early.
I saw him come on the field. He definitely came back in. I didn't hear a comment on it, but yeah he was in with Garcia.
Alright...
1. This team needs to play 4 quality quarters of football RIGHT NOW. Either way, there's some blowouts that are about to happen. If the Eagles can put 4 qtrs together, they can certainly be on the good side of them. If not, then I suggest we all savor this taste of 1st place in the division because we're about to lose it. We have GOT TO stop leaving points out there on the field. Tonight, there were 14... maybe 17.
2. I hate to say it, but we seem to have so many fragile motherfargers on this team. We can't stay healthy for shtein... and it's annoying as hell. For once, I'd like to go into a big game (like this sunday) with all system's go. But here we are, already down Kearse... and looking at the possiblity of starting Lewis, Baskett and Buckhalter against the Cowboys... not to mention Hanson & Wynn again... although I do think Sheppard and Hood will be back next week.
3. This game seemed like it was straight out of a time machine... where it was all McNabb... all the time, with the team on his back. Nobody open so he has to take off for the 1st. Hell, the wormburners (which he seemed to have under control for the most part) even came back.
4. I don't want to hear people shteinting on Greg Lewis anymore. I, with some others have said that this guy can still contribute and make plays as the #3/4 WR when he's not matched up against a starting CB. Yes, he fumbled last week... but he's been otherwise damn near perfect this season.
I'm happy with the win... as I am to get any win... but this game should have turned into a laugher a lot sooner than it did.

I agree. Greg Lewis is a good #3/4 receiver. The way Reggie Brown has been dropping balls lately, maybe Brown missing next week isn't that bad of a thing...
McNabb was way off 1st half. Second half he got it rollin. Can't put the blame all on McNabb, receivers were dropping alot of good passes, yet Donovan was throwin alot of ankle burners too. D-Line was the biggest disappointment of the night...also the lack of adjustment to the short pass game in the first half. Westbroook was missed yes, but next week is a must. We better get our shtein together, because Parcels is going to bring it. Tonight hopefully was a crapshoot game. Our DB's have no chance against Glenn or Cancer. We better get some penetration on the D-line or else our Offense better be unstoppable to match the receivers of Dallas.

1. Voice is hurtin'.
2. Seat was great
3. Hey Andy - excellent fake FG. Idiot.
4. Hey Buck - go farg yourself. Idiot.
5. Can anyone stay healthy? Honestly. I saw Stallworth on the trainers table and kept the binocs trained on him. They put a huge ice bag on his hammy. Then he walked (no limp) to the locker room with about 3 minutes to go. While he was on the bench Tito, McNabb and others came up to talk to him and give him a pat on the back.
6. Was Westbrook on the sideline? I didn't see him. I saw every other inactive player though.
7. Reno has a place on this team.
8. Greggggggggggggggggie - I'm sorry. I hated on him (but did say I had no beef as long as he stayed in his #4 role) all season last year and all preseason. Keep it up. Please.
9. Welcome back Donovan McNabb's legs. Will people now finally SHUT UP about him not being able to run? The whole leader talk is just a tad bit ahead of the running debate with McNabb. Tired o' both of 'em.
10. Dawk killed Greg Jennings.
I have more to say but I'm tired.
Seriously though. He runs slower than I do now.
As long as nobody can catch him... which they can't seem to do.
lucky me. Hawaii is the only market where ESPN rebroadcasts the game. Sincei t starts at 2:30 PM the local cable company received permission from ESPN to re-broadcast again at 7:00 HST. Kinda cool. I have to admit I'm getting jacked watching this third quarter again. Nice int. by Ramsey. See, almost like the first time I've seen it.
My god, I swear I can't take Theisman any longer. I am about to swallow a carton of Drano.
Greg Jennings is a hell of a receiver. Multiple Pro Bowls are definitely in his future.
I was a little concerned about the lack of sacks tonight, but GB did a lot of max protect, 3 step drops, getting the ball out quick in short passes. We started to get pressure at the end which lead to some bad throws by Favre. Most importantly we didn't allow a TD or double figure points which is all that matters. The defense played well against a GB offense that can score points. They have no defense, but they do have offensive playmakers.
I think the Cowboys will have extra blockers to protect Bledsoe all game next week, so we need to be ready.
agreed on Jennings. I was high on him in the draft but never thought he'd be this good this early. stud.
id much rather the eagles play a whole game strong but i would take them taking the 2nd half more seriously then thinking they have won the game in the first half.

They needed GREG LEWIS to step up and make plays to win last night. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence. And "the next Chad Johnson" Reggie Brown has some serious issues with drops.

Blew them out in the 2nd half, yes. I'm fully aware that to get anywhere in this league you need to play 4 qrtrs of football, not 1, 2 or 3. They havn't done that this year. You see what can happen when we took on a decent team in the Giants, we played 2 qrtrs and then lost. Imagine when we play Jacksonville or the Colts? Imagine when we take on a team like Chicago in the playoffs. Even Dallas and the Foreskins are looking good now...
I know this team has it in them to beat any team in the league, but I have yet to see them play a full game to their potential. I'm mad happy that they came out and adjusted last night, but come divisional/playoff games they've got to get it together and start playing some 4 qrtr football, otherwise they will lose to the better teams. I'm just letting some of you know since some of you seem to be oblivious to the fact.

I wonder if Gaither will get some non-special teams time on the field soon. He's made the most of his opportunities when he's been out there. I'm wondering how he'll do in non-garbage time.
Anyone catch what the crowd was chanting during ESPN halftime gang's anal-yZING?
Didinger says the hit that Considine put on Driver changed the momentum of the game because Driver was never the same after that. Besides the dropped pass in the third quarter, he also pulled up a few times going over the middle.
Both of the white boys they drafted last year for defense are coming through in their 2nd seasons. It's nice to see guys like that make plays, and it gives me hope for Justice, Gocong, Jean-Gilles, and Bloom. Hell, it's not like Bunkley's been lighting the world on fire either.
I gotta believe the lack of sacks last night can really be attributed to Favre being in the shotgun 80% of the time and half the passes coming on quick slants due to the CBs giving the GB receivers a 10 yard cushion.
I think the fact that he did pass so much and droppin the def back in coverage with help because of injuries led to Morency's 99 yards

I agree. Johnson's scheme seemed to work well overall. He rarely blitzed, and for good reason.
But the front 4 was barely able to hurry Favre, let alone sack him... that is a concern considering the inexperience of the interior of his offensive line. The Eagles really should have gotten a nice push more often.
Good points on Farve's formation and the quick slants. It was so painful that first half watching them do that. I was hoping they'd drop a lineback in those paths, but they didn't. Really didn't matter since we bent but didn't break. I'm not concerned about the lack of pressure the first half, mainly due to what Westy said. We got pressure when they started taking shots down the field and it worked out minus the sacks, but a plus for the INT's.

I agree that not gettin to Favre 'til late was a little worrisome, but in addition to what Westy said, the Packers did spend a lot of time early in max protect and we weren't blitzing so that caused a lot of 4 against 7 matchups.

I am not too concerned about that considering how quick they got rid of the ball.
Did anybody catch the post game on ESPN, Irvin was talking about Favre it was great. He was saying how Brett hasn't been a good QB for the last couple of years and basically saying how he is a media darling.

Yet, less than a year ago... his dumb ass was saying that he could be better for the Eagles than McNabb is.

Yup, he agreed with TO.
Nice blurb from this week's TMQ (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/061003):
QuoteFavre Does Not Rage Against the Dying of His Light: "Imagine how Brett Favre would have reacted if coaches sent in the punter on fourth-and-5 from the opponent's 35! If Green Bay coaches did [that] to Favre, there would be a detonation so powerful it would light up screens at the National Earthquake Information Center." So I wrote two years ago in scorning a different veteran quarterback who trotted meekly off the field rather than insist on going for it as, I assumed, Brett Favre always would. Yet exactly that happened last night on "Monday Night Football." Trailing 10-9 in the third quarter, Green Bay faced fourth-and-4 on the Philadelphia 35 -- precisely the situation in which I said Favre would never leave the field. Mike McCarthy sent in the place-kicker, and Favre meekly trotted off. Forget the bad tactics by the Packers' coach. When sent in last night, Dave Rayner, the Green Bay place-kicker, was 1-for-3 in his career from beyond 50 yards, and a miss would hand Philadelphia possession at the 44. I scarcely need mention that after Rayner missed, it took the Eagles just two snaps to streak the length of the field for a 17-9 lead. I scarcely need mention that as Favre trotted off the field, TMQ wrote the words "game over" in his notebook -- from the fourth-and-4 on the Philadelphia 35 on, Green Bay collapsed, the Eagles winning 31-9. What was really striking about this play was how meekly Favre trotted off. Favre in his prime -- a close game on Monday night, fourth-and-4 on the opponents' 35, no way on Earth does Favre meekly yield to the kicking team. Last night he did just that.
Cheer-babes professionalism note: Several times in this young season, cheerleaders of various clubs have been scantily attired, yet their teams didn't win, calling into question the normal constant that equates cheerleader undress with victory. But on a hot sunny afternoon in September, any amateur can disrobe. It is when the weather begins to turn cool that cheerleader professionalism comes into play and appeases the football gods. Monday night in Philadelphia, the kickoff temperature was 59 degrees and falling, yet the Eagles' cheer-babes came out in their summer outfits, which are barely more than bikinis. Outstanding professionalism, and needless to say, the home team was rewarded with victory.
thats a blurb?
Considering the normal 8,000 word length of TMQ, yes.
I had the fortunate experience of sitting next to a 40 year old nasty female Packers fan. She had her Brett Favrah Jersey on and the cheese head. Somehow her husband next to her was an Eagles fan. I told him it was a shameful act to bring his Packer fan wife to the stadium. She was talking shtein the entire first half and waving her stupid cheese head around. All I could say was, just keep watching and see what happens, cause your Packers are going down hard any minute. Of course that minute turned into the half. When Lewis scored that 2nd TD I just pointed and laughed at her while she sat there grumpy and pouting. She then asked her husband if they could leave and he gave in. She got the icehole chant on the way down the stairs. A classic moment was when another season ticket holder who sits in front of me asked her to name 3 other packers besides Favre. She couldnt even name ONE, and she was at the fricken game hearing names all half. Ha.

If 0 sacks comes along with no TDs every week, I'll take it. I'll complain, but I'll take it. Quietly. When no one's looking.
This made me laugh.

Not only that, but they kept Franks and 1 back into block--notice when Franks was in the patterns more in the 3rd qurter and 4th quarter, that's when the Birds got pressure. That will be a decision Parcells has to make on Sunday--does he keep Witten in and block or does he take a chance with the Eagles pass rush against the Statue?

You should have punched her in the face, I would have. And that guy should have his nuts removed for being such a vagina.
I could've sworn during the game, when Buckhalter broke a big run they said it was his career longest, when it obviously wasn't. The run vs Dallas in Philly in 2003 was.
I think he had the longest reception of his career.

"No but seriously....how'd you like to play defensive tackle?"
I don't care if he's just paying homage to Hank Aaron or whatever...
Howard should be shot for wearing any Braves jersey.
When I went to take a piss at halftime Tony Bruno was in front of me in the line. No one recognized him except for me. I said whats up Tony Bruno and he kind of looked around like he was worried that he'd be mobbed by people because of who he was. I asked him to rip Andy Reid for the idiotic fake FG during his next show.
this being the first time i sat down and really watched monday night football this season, i'll say this....
the announcing team is an absolute disgrace. (and having directv i couldnt split the feed with the radio without the delay).
Turico or whatever his name is is decent. but kornheiser and theisman NEVER SHUT UP. they are a complete distraction while trying to watch the game. ESPN is the worst of all the NFL broadcasts. could espn's broadcast be any less about the game being played? from the email, to the mid game interview... i actually missed madden and michaels.
the good thing is...the next monday night game i actually have tickets to, so i wont have to hear them.
Every single game when someone gets hurt, Kornheiser always says he had them on his fantasy football team.
wonderful
tony is ok. theisman is horrible, my pops just whined to me about him, and he can barely hear anything. and that stupid scorebox in the middle of the screen is annoying. espn really blows. yet, they continue to get record cable ratings, so its not really holdin them back in the cash flow.
My father was also complaining about ESPN and the broadcast crew (and scoreboard).
posted this in the NFL Player news thread, but its appropriate here too....Carroll was cut today by the Packers.
Rightfully so. He almost single-handedly allowed the Eagles back in that game, and to win it. McNabb was just tearing his ass up all 2nd half.
Cut Fox, sign Carroll!

They are of equal AND lesser value.
Like a coupon, they have 1/100 of a cent in cash value. So, that's something.
this may have been covered already, but i just saw it. and it's awesome.

as much as i like tony on PTI, i have to admit he is also pretty bad on the show. maybe thats the fault of having to work with thiesman, but as of now they arent working. and talking too much? i could have counted 3-5 awkward silent moments when tony had no corny joke to make and thiesman was wiping his mouth from performing fallatio on favre.
jaws, vermeil, and a play by play guy would work.
they are really bad...espn just doesn't have it's act together yet. i've seen more than 1 time when they put a graphic on the screen that made no sense.
something like..."PLAYER NAME AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGG"...was on the screen for a couple seconds last night.

That happened during the Skins-Vikes game too.
Another game they were doing they put up a generic player information template that had no picture, no height/weight and no college.
And they still have that stupid goddamn scoreboard in the middle of the effing screen.
The AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGG thing is a generic box that someone accidentally put up to the screen without putting information in it. I think I've seen it at least three times on Monday Night broadcasts. It always disappears quickly.

I had the sound off and thought it was part of some bit about how he played in the first half.
i thought it was the sound buck makes when one of his knees blows up
As others have mentioned, those inadvertent displays of bad graphics have been going on since MNF went to ESPN. I've noticed them in every game. It's an amateur operation they're running, at best. Talking over the play, putting up bad graphics, etc.
And they don't have to do any better because people will keep watching.

I thought the same thing. They also showed it once after the Packers messed something up. May not be a bad thing, after a player screws up cue "AAAAAGGGGGGG".

The same thing happened on the last MNF game. If you're familiar with YTMND.com, someone edited the clip of that error with a scene from the "Holy Grail" where "aaaaaargh" is written on the cave wall.

True. I forget that most people who watch MNF are casual fans, not obsessives like us winners.
Kornhieser and Thiesman are too much to take one at a time. Both of them on the air in the same booth at the same time are way too much to take for me. I ended up turning the sound down.
All hail Dawkins:
QuoteNotes: Eagles starting wideouts Donte' Stallworth (hamstring) and Reggie Brown (shoulder) both left the game in the fourth quarter. They'll be evaluated Tuesday. ... Favre extended his NFL-record streak for consecutive starts to 225. He's 17-14 on Monday nights. ... Eagles FS Brian Dawkins passed Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik for most wins (86) with the team. ... Morency faced the Eagles for the second time in four weeks, finishing with 99 yards on 26 carries. He had 13 yards on five carries in the season opener, before he was traded from Houston to Green Bay.

And this is why it won't change. If you (or anyone else on this board) said "I turned the game off" then they would worry. They aren't mucking with things to impress the people who will watch the game anyway - they are trying to lure and entertain the "casual" fan.
