I think at this particular point & until I see them in action, the uncertainty at SAM/WIL is more a liability.
If the WR's are as big a liability that everyone thinks, they could shift the focus of the offense to the running game, TE or throw more to Westy. I don't know how the defense can cover up subpar LB play.

Dhani Jones, Matt McCoy, Sean Barber, Greg Richmond.
That group doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
And let's not forget that although the WR's might be unproven, they still have an All Pro Quarterback running the offense and throwing them the ball. For that reason alone, the WR's are a lot less of a concern than the LB's are.

To me you can disguise week WRs with a good RB and TE much like SD and KC do. Granted neither of those teams has Reid's propensity to pass, but with a RB like Westbrook it is like having a gamebreaking WR on the field. I am actually more optimistic with this group with the young guys and the addition of Gaffney than I was with any WR corp before the TO era.
SD & KC have Tomilinson & Larry Johnson as weapons.

i said WR, mainly because of the pass happy offense and the fact that the reid era has proven they don't give two shteins about the linebackers. I wish this was different and maybe it is, but I don't see them making leaps and bounds to improve that position ever.
the linebackers are a bigger problem
whats ironic is that the better the pass rusher which all signs point to being much imporved this year...the more pressure falls on the lb's....
a strong pass rush will force opponents to run the ball more...the d-line is not exactly built to stop the run therefore the lb'ers have to make plays
another way to combat a strong edge pass rush is play action and shorter more high % passes to the backs and te's...again a place where the lb's are gonna have to make plays...and if they cant...it very well may cancel out the improvements made on the d-line
i just think of the browns game 2 years ago. they did their homework that game. the TE's destroyed us. its a great way to counter the pass rush and jj blitz's. LB's were piss poor.

Those two teams also have the top 2 TEs in the game. I am just saying you can get by with an average receiving corps if you are strong at those positions. I think with a healthy Westbrook and LJ they have a very solid foundation at those two positions.

ok, first of all, LT still has more catches over the last 3 years, considering he had 100 3 years ago. but yes, westbrook has a slight advantage in yards receiving (about 200 or so) and like 7 more TDs.
But if Antonio Gates hadn't come out of nowhere, LT would still be rushing for close to 2000 a year and still catching over 100 balls. He just doesn't have to.
Westbrook HAS to catch the ball because no one else can. You put those two on the same team and Westbrook never even smells the field.
Another reason LT doesn't catch as many TDs is that he's too busy running in close to 20 a year. They don't need to throw it.
Number of receptions does not matter when talking about who has more yards and more tds. Westy's numbers will probably be even bigger this season consdering with the loss of TO they are going to have to throw to him more. I realize what everybody is saying as far as LT getting the ball more in the running department and all of that, but to act like him and Westbrook are not even comparable in the receiving department is ridiculous. All I am saying is that you can make an argument for Westy as a better receiver any other part of their games it isn't even close.

Perfect. Couldn't agree more. Anyone who wouldn't trade Westbrook for LT in a heartbeat is farging brain dead.
