Denver trades pick 22 (1st round) to San Francisco for pick 37 (2nd round) and pick 68 (3rd round)
Interesting note on this trade: If you look at one of the infamous "pick value" charts floating around, the trade was exactly fair: 780 points on each side.
wow that is interesting.
i passed out from the interesting excitement
Well, I figured if we needed a new thread for this trade, I'd spice it up. You're welcome.
goodness.

Broncos | Team rebuffed trying to move up in the NFL Draft
Fri, 21 Apr 2006 06:40:01 -0700
Lee Rasizer, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports an unnamed team was the third team to turn down the Denver Broncos' offer of two first-round draft picks for their first-round pick in the NFL Draft. The team was draft somewhere in the top five of the draft, other than No. 3 or No. 5.
Very surprised not one team sees a benefit with the players involved here, especially the Packers in getting 2 picks in the 1st. There are no guarentees with these players..ever. This is a pretty strong 1st rd draft IMO, and I think you have to jump at the opportunity to improve your teams, especially when you are in the cellar of your conference.
That seems to speak more to the rumors that they're trying to get up there to snag Vernon Davis.
I think because the picks were at 15 and 22. I still believe they can trade up to No.4 and get Vernon Davis, with whomever lands there eventually--their 1st and the picks they got from SF can get them 1840 points, and the 4th pick is worth 1800. The only question would be if whomever owned the 4th pick would be willing to slide down to 15th and add an additional 2nd and 3rd high up in the order.
The Titans were right to refuse it. 15 & 22 is simply not enough to move up to #3. Same with the Jets... they already have a pick at the end of the 1st, and one of the big 4 (Bush, Leinart, Ferguson, Williams) will certainly be on the board there. They could use any of those guys big-time.
The Packers, however, must really be in love with A.J. Hawk or Mario Williams... because that trade would have been great value for them.

Supposedly the Lions are considering a 6th-round pick from the Dolphins in exchange for Joey Harrington... :-D

the Lions have no leverage. Joey wants to go to Miami, no one's offering a damn thing for him, and they'd have to cut him due to a roster bonus due before the season starts. they're lucky they're getting a 6th for him.

Bills | Team focused on Bunkley?
Fri, 21 Apr 2006 13:04:26 -0700
ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Buffalo Bills sound as though they are focused on taking Florida State DT Brodrick Bunkley with the eighth pick in the first round of next week's NFL Draft. Oregon DT Haloti Ngata is too big and not quick enough for their new Cover 2 defensive scheme, which needs quicker defensive linemen. The Bills could be tempted to trade down a few spots if they get the right offer and still be in position to come up with Bunkley.

Thanks. I didn't see that the first time earlier on in this thread. (http://www.concretefield.com/forum/index.php?topic=18203.msg407233#msg407233)
That makes two of us then.

Thats what I'm sayin.
A lot of folks think DEN made the trade to get Walker.
I think they are securing picks to move up to get VD.
The thing I don't get is why they are so anxious to get a trade done so early, and are so open in doing so. Talk about tipping your hand. If anyone else is hard for VD, you set the value for him at no lower than a fifth or sixth now, and you are going to pay big if you feel you absoultely must have him. Douches.
Trading now is smart if you can find a partner. Why? Because when it is draft day the asking prices are higher. You might be able to do a deal now that if you proposed the same deal a week from now you'd be laughed at and nothing would get done.
So they aren't really tipping their hand. They are the Broncos. They do some crazy things (ex: Mo Clarett). So no one really knows why they did this and who they have targeted.
What if they really want Jay Cutler?
But the price is cheaper now.
Here's the latest trade rumor alert, courtesy of http://www.sf-gate.com
The three-way trade rumor has come out of New York. It goes like this:
The Saints and Jets would swap positions, allowing New Orleans to select Williams at No. 4. The Jets would then trade the No. 2 pick to the Raiders in exchange for the seventh selection, wide receiver Jerry Porter and additional picks, likely future choices. That move would allow the Raiders to pick either Leinart or Young.
Meanwhile, the Jets would draft offensive lineman D'Brickashaw Ferguson at No. 7, if the Packers haven't grabbed him at No. 5, then trade Ferguson's rights to the Saints.
This kind of multiple-team trade may be common in the NBA but rarely happens in the NFL. Plus, any trade involving Porter would immediately accelerate the remainder of the $7 million signing bonus he received last year.
So, the net result would be?...
Raiders lose Porter, future picks, get Young or Leinart
New Orleans gets Williams AND Ferguson
Jets get Jerry Porter and some picks
I don't get it.
I can't see that falling into place at all.
I can see Al Davis doing it, because he's crazy. But the Saints are trading out of #2 and ending up with 2 players that would be good value at #2 as is? No frigging way they could go that.
And where the hell is the value in this deal for the Jets?
Depends on what the Saints would trade for Fergy, I guess.

I think what perhaps the writer left out is that Ferguson would be swapped for Mario Williams. I can't see the Saints getting TWO players out of that.
But that makes even less sense. Jets could get Williams and the Saints could get Ferguson without trading at all.
the saints getting willaims and ferguson might actually make up for the ricky williams fiasco years ago.
Todd McShay of Scouts, Inc. is reporting that the Rams want Cutler and are looking to trade ahead of Arizona (probably with Buffalo) to get him. He is also saying:
QuoteThe Eagles, who hold the 14th overall selection, also have contacted the Bills for a potential trade. The Bills likely would lose out on both defensive tackle prospects, but they have some other prospects (OLB Ernie Sims, OT Winston Justice and DC Jimmy Williams) -- targeted in that range, as well.
What's hard to figure is which prospect Philadelphia would value so highly as to make such a significant trade? There has been no leak from Eagles camp at this point, but my best guess would be Justice. Although Justice generally is considered a mid-first round prospect, there have been reports that teams such as the Cowboys (18) and Buccaneers (No. 23) have contacted the Ravens (No. 13) about moving ahead of the Eagles (No. 14) to select Justice.
Would not be a big fan if the Eagles traded UP to get Justice. Meh.
agree
I would say that it would be worth it if they value him that high, especially if there are still concerns about Tra Thomas' back.

We actually agree on something.
Definitely not smart to move UP for Justice.
not a lot of rumors this year it seems. I expect it to be just the opposite this weekend.
I think it is because this draft is so deep from the middle of the first until well into the second that teams are probably reluctant to give up picks when they can get such great value throughout the draft.
Not a trade rumor, but:
PFT.com:
ONE LAST BOMBSHELL COMING?
We're picking up indications of one more pre-draft bombshell that could, if the information is disclosed before Saturday, prompt a player poised to be pick early in the draft to fall precipitously.
The kicker is that there's a chance the information will break before Saturday -- and there's a chance that it will never come to light.
We're chasing it. We might uncover it. Maybe someone else will. Maybe they won't.
Regardless, it all adds to the intrigue.
Any guesses?
AJ Hawk is white!
I hate PFT for crap like that.
ridiculous ploy to keep the readers attention so they stay logged on to their website during the draft coverage. Other major Internet sites get bombarded during the draft. Its like a comercial for the Superbowl--but not hardly the spectacle
