Title: NFL Europe '06
Post by: PhillyPhanInDC on March 18, 2006, 02:04:10 PM
Didn't see another thread for it. Anywho, the Rhein Fire is playing on NFL Network today, Timmy Chang in during the second quarter over Drew Henson ( :-D), and the kid looks really sharp. Anyone else planning on watching the Birds players up until the preseason kicks off?

QuoteHere's a look at how the Eagles' players in NFL Europe fared in the league's opening weekend:

# Keyonta Marshall (DT, Hamburg) - 7 tackles and a sack
# Michael Gasperson (WR, Cologne) - 1 rec., 10 yards
# Corey Peoples (S, Amsterdam) - 7 tackles
# Jeremy Caudill (DT, Amsterdam) - 3 tackles
# Timmy Chang (QB, Rhein) - 6/13, 59 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT
# Brandon Pinderhughes (CB, Cologne) - 1 tackle

Keyonta! If his fat ass could contribute anything whatsoever to the Eagles I would be excited.

Watching Rhein Fire (Timmy Chang) against the Berlin Thunder (No Eagles). Timmy Chang is making Drew Henson look like total shtein. This kid looks really, really good. Throws an excellent ball, and is picking up on blitzes and converages. Good stuff.  :yay

This NFL Europe stuff isn't nearly as terrible as the AFL.

Keyonta Marshall was ejected for unexplained extracurricular activity during the most recent game.

I'm not kidding. If that fat farg can play in the league that would be a HUGE lift to the defense.

He'll take over for Hollis.

Walker
Patterson
Rayburn
BUNKLEY
Marshall

If (high round rookie) and/or Marshall can't push ahead of Rayburn on the rotation schedule our interior DL is going to suck again this year.

If Marshall can regularly contribute as a legit run stuffer, he'll help the team a lot. If he's the 5th DT and only gets in on the goalline, he adds nothing. IMO.

You're smoking weed.  Considering they are hot to use Darren Howard as a DT in passing situations/nickel packages, there is NO WAY IN HELL this team carries 5 DT's in addition to him.

If Marshall earns a spot and the Eagles draft a DT on day 1, Walker or Rayburn are out of a job.

They always carry 5 DTs. They'll still carry 5 even with Howard being able to play DT. Marshall could make it and be inactive on gamedays though. Just be there for depth purposes. I stand by my 5 I listed.

They don't always, and they very well may not this year.  You'll see.

Sure.

If Darren Howard is on the opening day 53-man roster, I will bet you $10 that they don't carry 5 other DT's.

It can replace my $10 bet with IGY of the opening weekend Cowboys at Eagles matchup.  I'm going to make my $10 one way or another, dammit!

Keyonta Marshall's NFLE diary (http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/homeNewsDetail.jsp?id=46379)

Quote"That first game was pretty tiring, but I'm rounding into the kind of shape I want to be in. I'm just trying to play hard on every snap and see where that gets me. By the time we're in the fourth or fifth week, I expect to be able to go full speed on every play without being tired. The conditioning is a big part of why I'm here. I weighed in at 318 here and now I'm at about 325."

Quote"Now, I haven't tried walking around naked. I know that when we leave our hotel, he's standing up there on the deck totally naked. Maybe he's our good-luck charm or something, I don't know. Nobody knows who he is, but when we come out of the hotel he's there, every time."

"I don't think I'm going to take part in the nudity thing. I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet. Hey, I'm not sure Germany is ready to see Keyonta Marshall walking around without any clothes on, but you never know. It's still early in the season."

This week:

Keyonta Marshall (DT, Hamburg) - 3 tackles
Michael Gasperson (WR, Cologne) - 1 rec., 15 yards
Corey Peoples (S, Amsterdam) -  5 Tackles
Jeremy Caudill (DT, Amsterdam) - 2 tackles
Timmy Chang (QB, Rhein) - Did not play
Brandon Pinderhughes (CB, Cologne) - 1 tackle, 1 Assist

Maybe Marshall makes the team this year. As for the rest of these guys, I am done paying attention. Gasperson has what? Three catches for 35 yards? Yawn.

All the more because what I have seen in these past few years in the NFL Europe is that it is a pass-first league... hence peoples having so many tackles...

Former Eagles training camp fodder Robert Redd's (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9376569) diary entry.  Redd still can't decide if he's a CB or a WR, nor can the coaches.  Almost every single line in Redd's piece is a worn out cliché.  It's awful.

The NFL Europe season is almost over.  A quick search of the "Stats/Leaders" board at http://www.nfleurope.com/ shows only one Eagle doing anything.  Peoples has two interceptions, along with half a dozen other guys.  The leader (three way tie) has four.  Half a dozen or so other players also have two.

All of which makes me think of the last great NFL Europe hope, McCoo.  What's he doing?

edit:  Did I mention that in addition to Peoples, half a dozen other guys have two interceptions?
