Anyway, was anyone shocked that the Giants got shut out by Carolina at home? Not I.
Palmer's down and cringing in pain.
Well, my playoff FFL QB is down and hurting on only the 2nd snap for Cincy. Helluva pass to Henry though.
Down with Pittsburgh!
And it was nice to see Eli and the Jints lose. First shutout in the playoffs since 1986.

Did anyone see Burress flat out quit today? He was disinterested in playing it looked like.

From PFT.com;
QuoteG-MEN POINT FINGERS AT PLAX
On the heels of a 23-0 loss to the Carolina Panters, some Giants players believe that receiver Plaxico Burress quit on the team during the embarrassing shutout in front of the home crowd.
"He was playing half-assed like a big Hoyda," we heard from one source.
It's not the first time the locker room sentiment was that Burress, a free-agent pickup from the Steelers, shut it down on the field. In a loss to the taterskins a couple of weeks back, the thinking was that both Burress and tight end Jeremy Shockey gave up on the team.
Sean Morey is now at WR for Pittsburgh (the 4th guy) since Morgan got hurt.
Man I love Jim Nantz. He needs to announce every sporting event. And's not because he's good at announcing things, ibecause he's not,ts the special Nantz flavor he brings to the game that just can't be topped.

I wonder if the Giants' fans think that was a brilliant signing now? I saw him walk away from the huddle TWICE before Manning finished the play calls.
Plus, Manning's struggles today proved to me today how much BETTER McNabb was in his secodn year compared to Manning. Manning had better recievers, a much better running game, and got shut out. McNabb, with inferior offensive weapons, beat a Bucs team, by 18, in his second year, whose defense was either on par with, or better than the present-day Carolina defense.
I like Nantz as well. He should be the MNF or SNF guy. Probably the best NFL PBP dude.

Bobby Williams called for holding. :-D
Unsportmanlike gives Cincy a first down. I'd kinda like to see the Steelers win. I work in Pittsburgh and a few of my co-workers are from Indiana so the bets go flying whenever those teams meet up.
On the other hand, I'd like to see NE-IND. I'm eager for both of those teams to be out of the playoffs ASAP, and a matchup would guarantee that one of them is sent home next week.

sports.espn.go.com/nfl/pl...id=2289603
The AFC divisional playoff game Sunday at the RCA Dome is a rematch of the Steelers' 26-7 Monday night loss on Nov. 28, but Porter was unimpressed by the Colts' play in that game.
"They don't want to just sit there, line up and play football," Porter told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "They want to try to catch you off guard. They don't want to play smash-mouth football, they want to trick you. ... They want to catch you substituting. Know what I mean? They don't want to just call a play, get up there and run a play. They want to make you think. They want it to be a thinking game instead of a football game."

Another nice thing.....they are going to have some serious cap issues.

Champ Bailey, like Ellis Hobbs, should be embarassed.
He was run down by a freakin TE! And Watson had to take the long route to get him.
I like how Simms was saying "no way was Champ loafing. He was just tired". Ok, Phil. How did he manage to get smoked by a TE then? And let's say that he was tired at least have the ball in your left arm so when you do get blasted it is right on the sideline.

Seems like around Week 10, everyone in the NFL media was ready to just hand over the Lombardi trophy to them.

I'm interested to hear more indepth explanation from the NFL as to how the call could possibly have been over-turned. The only thing I can think of is that there is some obscure rule, like the tuck rule, becaues Polamalu clearly had possession, rolled over, and was getting up when he fumbled.
The curious thing about the Ref's explanation was he said something to the effect of "the receiver lost possession of the ball before his knee was up off of the turf, making the pass incomplete." The wording of that explanation was odd...made me think there's one of those quirky NFL rules that rarely comes into play which was involved in that over-turn.
Otherwise, I'd have to question the competency of that referree...if not for a potential quirky rule, the game should've been over at that point.
If you guys can't find a team to root for in the playoffs, try my method. Instead of looking for a team to root for, find a team to root against. The obvious candidates are Carolina because they beat us in the championship game a few years back and the Steelers because their fans are frontrunners.
Seattle/Denver is what I'll root for...
Same as me.
Jeff,
I was confused as hell too. That ref crew was just bad all around. They missed Faneca's false start on 4th and inches and then even if they missed that they should've gotten the 74 Colts that were offsides.
Brutal.
PF,
That's what I do. I root against teams. I automatically root against NFC East teams. Last week I rooted against Pittsburgh but I rooted for them today because I hate Indy and Peyton.
Now I'm rooting against Carolina.
I'm rooting against whoever wins this Chicago-Carolina game because they're boring me to death. :chair

Bears driving for a TD.....what a hit by Minter!
Next play...TD! 16-14
After Dinner Minter almost killed Berrian. But at least Berrian showed a sack (watching this game, Pinky?) and held onto the rock.
Bears score. 16-14.
Let's go, Bears.
Uh, oh. Foster is hurt.
Nick Goings could be the Panthers #1 HB.

I dunno. Seattle looked pretty damn sof t yesterday.
Yeah, but SEA will have Alexander back. CAR won't have Foster.
i despise those cb's on carolina.
I hate Carolina's DBs, as well Hunt...bunch of posin' motherfargers.
I don't know about Seattle murdering Carolina. I only watched the fourth quarter of the game, but Carolina's O-line was consistently pushing Chicago's DL around, blowing them off the ball. On one particular play, Brad Hoover pushed Urlacher back about 15 yards like he was blocking a small boy. Nick Goings had some pretty big holes to run through, and he was hitting them.
It might be a little closer than you'd think.
Knew that friggin' O/U was set too low (at 30.5 points), and I should've bet that today...that one was settled with something like twelve minutes left in the game.
Another thing to remember is that if Carolina wins the SB, it means SI's prediction was correct. That's unacceptable.
Early in the game the CHI DL was getting pressure though. They weren't getting to Delhomo but they were stuffing the run. Steve Smith was the difference maker today. He flat out bitch smacked the entire city of Chicago.
Chicago tried to get too cute with Rex Grossman. Instead of doing it with Thomas Jones and sustaining drives they let the guy who hasn't played all year lose it for them.
And their vaunted defense wore down. Early on they were studs, but Carolina got them later on. I think SEA's front 7 might have a good day against the likes of Goings, He Hate Me and Jamal Robertson.
Hope you're right Phreak, I'd rather see Seattle go this year...for nothing more than they've never been there. When I have no strong rooting interest, I'll always go for the team that's never gone.
Steve Smith is a flat out killer, though...and, not in a Rae Carruth-kinda Panther WR way.

I respect Fox way more that Holmgren. Holmgren has been a HC for like 50 years and he has been to the SB twicw. Everyone genuflects to Holmgren, but I have never been in awe. When Fox was DC with the Giants, he flat out shut us down constantly. He has garnered my respect for that. We always beat the Packers and Seahawks (except this year) and made Favre and whoever played for Seattle look like crap. I have little respect for Holmgren.
I am picking Carolina.
That pic of Ricky Manning makes me want to fight someone.
Also---DeShaun "Bubble Wrap" Foster has a broken ankle. That is 3 big injuries for him. Broken collarbone, microfracture knee surgery and now a broken ankle (in his UFA year).

But Corey was the anchor of that line! Everything that defense did was all because of Corey!
They paid him $40M to be a run stuffer despite the fact that his game was being a disruptive force as a DT. He is Sam Adams Light nowadays. But he makes a ton of cash unlike Sam.

Ha, exactly. When they announced the starting lineups during the game they said Corey Simon was a NOSE TACKLE for them? Wow.
Simon used to come into camp out of shape then work himself to Pro Bowl form by the end of the season, this year was different. He looked really bad this season.
Guy who ranks #1 on my top FA wish list is Rocky Bernard.
What I found interesting was that when the Steelers were running it down the Colts' throats in the 4th, Cory was on the sideline--nwo WHY WOULD YOU HAVE YOUR RUN STUFFER ON THE SIDELINE?
Quote9. Next week will be the first time in five years that the conference championship round will be Eagles and Patriots-free. Which is a shame, really. I never felt as though we got to hear enough about those two teams. They kind of flew under the radar a bit on us, didn't they? But as disastrous as Philadelphia's season was this year, it must be nice for the Eagles to experience the month of January without being weighed down with an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Anything to make money without doing anything.... :paranoid
I work with Ed, I can vouch for that... :P
Are those pictures from that team logo, uniform, and mascot message board?
Ah yes, there's the Jake Plummer we all know. Mr. Turnover.
Plummer fumbles at the Broncs 39 and the Steelers have it.
3-0 Pitt with them driving.
Go Stillers.
TD Pittsburgh.
10-0.
And Denver is about to answer them...
Jeff Reed's dumbass kicks it OOB following the TD so they got it at the 40. They go for it on 4th and 1 and get it barely and now Plummer is driving them.
Broncs got a FG...
Pittsburgh systematically drives it right back down the field to score another TD.
17-3 with about 1:50 to go in the half.
And Plummer turns it over again!
Pick by Ike Taylor and the Steelers have 1:48 to score again.
I really don't like the Steelers. Sure, I don't like 31 teams in the NFL, but I dislike them more when they're winning.
Oh my. The Steelers just scored another TD (Bettis) but they called it back due to Hines Ward covering up the LT on the LOS.
SHould've been 24-3.
Only :15 left so they have one shot to get a TD if not then a FG.
Wow.
Hines Ward with the TD catch.
Roethlisberger is 13/18 180 and 2 TDs
24-3 Steelers.
F Denver.
Bye bye Denver running game in the second half. :-D All the weight is going to be on Plummer, and we can all guess what will happen then. Anyone else think that if Plummer implodes here Denver will be in the QB market?
He should come back in the second half sans the beard.
Well... one of my two predictions looks like gold so far.
Denver trying to make a game of it... 27-17.
Boo.

Smith returns the punt for a TD -- flag on the play a clear block in the back.
But Ed Hercules picks the flag up after talking to the guy who three it (and after John Fox fondled his scrote)! :o

Herc was too busy admiring his own biceps to notice that illegal block.

I hate both teams with a passion. You can tell that the Seattle crowd is used to going to college games rather than NFL. There's a distinct difference between college and pro cheers and the Seaslugs crowd has "Bowl Game" written all over them. The only thing worse than fairweather fans are fairweather hippy fans. :boom

I gotta second that Seattle fans are weird. I guess when you leave a place like Philly the level of sports craziness dies down a bit. Pittsburgh is a 3.5 pt favorite ???
Sounds like a no brainer, but I wouldn't touch it.
Sounds about right. Pitt will probably roll. This win by Seattle doesn't impress me as much as it impresses others. I thought the Panthers were overrated and were playing on the road in the playoffs for a reason. They simply aren't that great. They have one weapon on offense without Foster, and obviously that is Steve Smith. If you stop him, you stop the entire team. I knew their defense was fraudulent when the frickin Bears went up and down the field on them in the second half of last week.
I can see it.
Pittsburgh defense > Seattle offense
Pittsburgh offense = Seattle defense
Pittsburgh STs > Seattle STs
If the Steelers front 7 can plug the gaps and keep Alexander under 70 they'll win. I love Seattle's OL and all, but I don't know if they'll be able to blocl LeBeau's schemes. Polamlau is the wild card on that match-up.
They have the potential to get after Hasselbeck big time.
That fruitcake safety is going to wind up with the SB MVP.
Probably.
But I'd bet on Bettis.
8 carries 13 yards 2 TDs playing in hometown = SB MVP.
